Breville Bakery Boss Stand Mixer $349 @ David Jones

220

Was looking at stand mixers and it was hard to justify the kitchenaid based on price. Had a look at this Breville bakery boss mixer and it looked pretty good. Solid metal construction and Ive had good experience with Breville in the past. Used it this afternoon to make a 60% hydration pizza dough and it wasn't effortless but went fine. Also tried a 70% hydration pizza dough and it went through it easily. Both times it scraped the sides and picked up almost everything really well, even with only the dough hook. Obviously only used it twice but I would recommend this for any cakes, batters and lighter bread doughs - and the occasional heavier dough.

Currently on sale for $349, RRP is $499. Other stores (Bing Lee and Harvey Norman) do have it for $399 though.

I bought from David Jones in Bondi and they had a small blue sticker on the display model for $315. Took a photo and showed it to the lady at the cash register and she lowered the price to $315. It was not advertised anywhere though so don't know if i just got lucky or otherwise. Receipt below if anyone wants to try and get it matched. They also had an older modem BEM825 in gloss black (current version of black is matte) for $295 which I believe is the same it just comes with two bowls. We wanted white though so opted for the one linked.

I'm still traumatized from going to Aldi last weekend

My bread I baked using my stand mixer gets soggy from my tears recounting the elbows, yelling, running through the store and getting trampled on.

I had the $70 Kmart plastic one and while it did work for the above mentioned doughs it really struggled and would not have lasted much longer. Also it didn’t scrape up the bottom at all. I returned it and got this breville one instead.

      • I don't doubt the Breville one is like for like. Mine only has half the power (600w). Breville and this product in particular is much better hence the upvote

Wattage doesn’t mean a lot when comparing stand mixers. The classic KitchenAid is only 500w if I’m not mistaken, and it’s a powerhouse.

It just depends on how the motor is built.

(Mostly commenting for the benefit of anyone reading this and choosing between stand mixers).

Theres definitely a place for the cheaper kmart and aldi ones. If you're just mixing light cake batters or whipping cream or eggs then those ones would be fine. Its only once you start the heavy doughs that you need a powerful unit

  • I’m a regular home baker and a Kenwood stand mixer owner for a very long time. It was time for me to get a new one and I was going to get a KitchenAid because you can’t get better in terms of reliability (the upfront cost is more but it’s good dollar value).

I came across this stand mixer and loved how it looked. The features it has is also amazing compared to KitchenAid. I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this Bakery Boss last week.

Really excited to use it and see how it stands the test of time.

    • Yeh design wise it looks really good. I would even say that I think it looks better than the kitchenaid. The black one looks really nice, we just have a white kitchen with other white appliances so wanted to go white.

      • I previously had a red stand mixer and was sad to find out the red Bakery Boss has been discontinued (it looks so good!). I've decided I'm going to spray paint my mixer when I get it!

Keep the Kenwood if it's an older model! Easily better than anything else aimed at domestic use on the market when it comes to doing dough.

These Brevilles do a reasonable job while they're working, just keep in mind they aren't made for longevity, unlike (older) Kenwood & KitchenAid.

      • Is the Kenwood KMix KMX754 an old model? I bought it when it was 50% off a couple of yrs ago and I have only used it a couple of times.

    • Yeh I saw that, but out of stock. However I didn't realise you could order now and they ship it once back in stock.

going to buy this cos wanted to support aussie company rather than American company.

    • Wut.

You know that Breville is an Australian company right.
Kitchenaid is American and Kenwood is British, just trying to support Aussie companies where I can.

  • I came here to look for Mixer discount. I will think about the Breville. All my friends have Kitchenaid and swear by it. My friend had hers before her daughter was born 10yrs! she bakes her own bread and uses it all the time.

I bout a 12.5lt bag of bakers flour today being inspired by friends that have not bought bread for 3mths.

I used a cheap electric twin beater to mix the dough in a bowl. I made asian Hokkaido milk bread sausage buns like the ones from breadtop. Turned out perfect. I saw the $50 ice cream attachment for the Breville. If I can find stock if ice cream attachment then I would consider the Breville. I want the ice cream attachment. My friend uses hrs often with kitchenaid. Blavk sesame ice cream, pandan and coconut, green tea etc these premium ice cream is too exxy from shops.

I did some research and comparison between this one and the Kenwood 5100t which was $340 on Amazon and decided to go with the Kenwood one based on reviews.

Thanks OP, I picked up the silver one.
Originally, purchased BEM430SIL but the wait is for another week or two so I have canceled and get this one instead.

    • Did you try call them up and get the price matched down to $315?

      • No, the reduced blue price tag still there and they are 2 more on the shelf.

Thanks OP! Managed to get the new matte black one for $295 :)

    • How did you manage that?

Just showed the photo in OP's post - I don't know if they realised it was a different black but the person serving me didn't seem to question it which was lucky!
