Glad HN jerked me around. Will port over to this instead 🤨

  • That's a great deal at only $260 for 12 months with the gift card value taken in to account

  • +4

Is the $10 monthly port in discount guaranteed and processed in store, or do I have to chat with Telstra and fight for it after?

    • Screenshot the page just in case. But i'm sure it will be automatically applied

      • That's not the case over at this deal. What a mess Telstra have made of that.

    • It’s an advertised promotion (on the link OP gave), so part of the deal

    • Our port in credit on a JB deal about 12 months ago was automatically applied, as was the additional data. I believe they are just codes on your billing account so make sure the in store rep gets it right. If they can process it all online it should be all good, if they have to "call" to get it set up that is when you "may" have problems.

    • Last week when I was on phone with Telstra rep, he said all discounts have to be applied at point of sale (I was checking if there is a $10 port in discount which can be applied to my recent Telstra port-in via TGG). So make sure this discount is processed at TGG during signup.

  • I dont understand the maths, it's a 40gb plan plus bonus 40gb data according to the t&C? Am I missing something or looking at the wrong thing?

    • yeah looks like typo on GG website! 80GB is for 24 months plan

  • What's the $10 credit per month mean? So plan cost discounted from 65 to 55?

  • Not a bad deal, $55 pm .. if you can also get on live chat and speak to one of the great Telstra staff (seems like they're from Australia and not overseas as the overseas ones I've been dealing with for couple years are much more respectful in their wording and manners with loads more customer service wuakities) and ask for the $10 port in discount if it's still available ..

I dunno if the overseas Telstra staff are still working during covid19 as the ones I've been dealing with past month are fluent in English texting and seem to be employed off the streets to Australia with lack of manners and grammar.

Good luck with this! I've been waiting for 2 months to get some Telstra dude to get back to me… still waiting!

      One word: APPALLING

Will churn as soon as my contract is up

    • I recently ported to Telstra on the JB Hi-Fi deal.
I hit live chat up asking for the port in discount. Was told it was only available for Telstra plans not JB plans. Got a once off $10 discount but that's it. YMMV

      • Try another agent. I've had 2 sign ups in the last month and been offered discount on both occasions.

        • Ah ok. I might give it another crack. Thanks

        • I've tried and haven't gotten it! Did you talk to Telstra via 24/7 app, website or phone?

        • I tried to call in and spoke to associate but he said he can't apply on this plan as all discounts on JB plan need to be applied at point of sale.
Were yours applied via chat or phone?

        • @Bullion78 did you just ask this via Telstra live chat?

      • @ GiggityGiggity I got told the same thing!!!
Is it just me or do these new found Telstra reps possess disgusting behaviour to their predessessors?

        • I got $10 off for 6 months after trying again. Used the message area on the Telstra app.

  • So The Good Guys has partnered with JB Hi-Fi but JB doesn't offer the same deal. Yet JB has Samsung Galaxy S10+ 512GB at $999 but closest GG can offer is Samsung Galaxy S10 128GB at $1147?

    • +4

Looks like JB is also offering the same deal.

I was going to port over on the previous deal but decided to wait and see if there would be a superior renewal given the need to port out. Looks like it was worth it.

    • So The Good Guys has partnered with JB Hi-Fi

JB Hi-Fi actually owns The Good Guys…

  • +2

The Good Guys have partnered with JB Hi-Fi to bring you these exclusive Telstra plans.

This chain is getting a bit convoluted!

  • Watch the terms and conditions, folks. Was researching the JB deals the other day that were similar to this and only just spotted the bit about international texts costing 50c each and not being part of your base plan! You'd have to add the $10 per month international pack to make it worthwhile.

    Extract of text from https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/jb-mo…
Calls and SMS to International numbers
Your Plan does not include an International Call and SMS
    allowance. The following charges apply:
calls to international numbers – for call rates to overseas,
    see telstra.com.au/mobile-other-call-types
SMS to international numbers – 50¢ per standard message
    sent per recipient; and
MMS to international numbers – 75¢ per standard
    message sent per recipient.

    • +3

It’s pretty commonly known that these deals don’t include international calls

      • Agreed. Infact earlier (last year) it wasn't even possible to add International calling. The only option was to change the plan to a standard Telstra plan which also has POM data. We were able to do it last year but now a days that's also not possible :(

      • I wasn't discussing calls. What I did find surprising was the price of international texts. 50 cents each?

    • thanks - i get 1GB free roaming with my 40 dollar 80GB plan with Optus - dont know if this is worth switching

  • This is 60GB per month for 12 months right? If so, this is a great deal. Half the price with double the data when compared to Telstra/Optus direct.

Too bad my contract still has 6 months left. Hopefully they will have a great iPhone 11 with plan sale around Christmas.

  • Any good iPhone or Samsung deals on plan?

  • +3

Looks jbhifi is now offering the same deal

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

  • What's the best/cheapest port-out and port-in plan if i'm currently on a telstra plan (out of contract)?

    • Free or $2 Optus Sim. According to previous deals, you can activate it on their live chat without purchasing credit.

      • How does port out and then port-in work - is it possible with the terms and conditions of this deal? I'm currently out of contract with Telstra and would like to join this plan.

        • you would need to port out to another provider and then port back into Telstra via this deal.

      • +1

Or if you don't want to bother with live chat then get the $2 Coles SIM which activates without requiring recharge (can select Recharge later during online activation process). You can receive incoming calls and text messages (but no outgoing)

  • The $10 port in bonus is that just for 12 months?

    • I'd be surprised if it didn't continue on afterwards but after 12 months, why stay on the plan? Either port out and back in for whatever deal is on at the time or switch to Boost.

  • So during the 12 months with the $400 credit, the deal is effectively $22/month?

    $65/month - $10/month port in credit - $33/month worth of gift card ($400/12 months)

Looks like a great deal, thanks!

What are you planning to do at the end of the 12 months (when it returns to $65/month)?

    • Time will tell, there is always an offer around the corner

  • hmmm, do I bite the bullet on this or keep waiting to see if JB ever offer the $700 gift card deal again…

    • wasn't that for 24 months though?

      • +1

oh was it? You may be right… That certainly changes the calculus…

EDIT: just did a search and found an example like this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/531420 and seems that you are indeed correct…

  • I think this is a much better than the $65 pm + $500 gift card, not just $20 cheaper overall but $100 less is always better than $100 JB gift card.

  • Have been waiting over 2 weeks for telstra to port me in to there service, connected on JBHIFIs deal with the s20+, there live chat is a joke, they have just put on a bunch of experienced kids with zero training and or experience

    • So you've been without service for two weeks?

      • no im just still with my old provider, the port is still stuck on error on there system

  • +1

    Crap should've ported out

    • Actually, I just read the T&C's, does not say any cooling off period. Just go Optus prepaid and then come back in 2 days or something. Last time I was advised by Good Guys to port out for at least a week. JB always says much longer, but a week worked

  • My boost prepaid is about to expire. Will porting out of Boost make me eligible here? If so, what are the best/quickest port out options?

    • Any tips on porting out and how long we need to port out for?

  • Any new phone suggestions? I’m planning to use $400 to buy a new phone. I don’t play games, just need a large screen to read and reply Emails. If the camera is good, that’ll be perfect. Thanks

    • My opinion mate.. Wait for the P30 deal to come round again at JB. They've had it twice in the last month, far superior phone for what you'll get for $400 and its free on the $65 plan over 12 months… Then request the port in discount. Just my 2 cents

      • Good idea, I am thinking the same thing. Thanks

  • Do the GG or JB-HiFi gift cards have expiry date?

    • Was told that they do not expire from the salesperson when I was signing up this afternoon.

  • How many days do I have to port out for this time?

    • Anyone know the answer to this?

      • Been to two JBs and they've both been strict about checking that you've been away from Telstra for 30 days.

        • No luck for me either

        • Is good guys as strict? Gonna go give it a crack today

  • Anyone seen an expiry date on this?

    • +1

Was in store yesterday and saw 15th June

      • Thanks!

        • Could be 14th June. As JB ends 14th

  • +1

Good guys didn't check 30 days for me

    • They checked for me :(

  • Went today before reading the comments. The $10 credit finished Monday.
