    32GB - groan.

    • Is that still a problem with Gigabit internet? Just curious, obvious this has no LTE so it relies on home WiFi.

      • +6

Depends on your use case. If you have a lot of apps, it isn't enough. If you want to store stuff locally, and not be reliant on the cloud, it isn't enough.

I don't use iCloud, so don't want to subscribe to it, so the 5GB they give isn't enough.

        • Well let's say it to be more of an entertainment portal for streaming and casual gaming (nothing heavy) for the misus and the child. I believe misus pay for iCloud, I'm not an Apple user so I don't know, but isn't OS footprint on Apple devices smaller than Android in term of both storage and RAM usage? For example on Android you would use around 9.6GB out of that 32GB for OS.

On the other hand most of our photos are stored on my Google Photo since I used my Pixel 2 to upload for unlimited storage. I also pay for Google One. I imagine viewing photos won't be a problem since most of our stuff are cloud based already.

        Onboard storage, not connectivity mate.

        • -1

Not the point being made. The price difference between 32GB and 128GB is about the same as 2TB of iCloud storage for a year that can be used for all devices in a family. I have all documents and years of photos available on every device regardless of internal storage. If I need something offline I can selectively do that too.

          • @akerr: Well the point being made seems like the onboard storage is not enough to store apps and documents in the first place, which is a common complaint on lower tier storage options on ipads. See follow-up comment "Depends on your use case. If you have a lot of apps, it isn't enough."

            • @DavoW: No, you replied to Bigboomboom who was asking if good connectivity (and by implication cloud storage) was enough even with less internal storage. I was saying it can even make sense money-wise (giving an example from my own actual usage) and disagreeing with you who seemed to think they were mixing up specs.

              • @akerr: Sure thing mate. Good chat.

  • I have been looking for a good deal for this and just ordered one with gold colour. Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one.

  • Can someone recommend a cheap compatible apple pencil and a case?

  • +1

Was looking at these but ended up getting a new Air 3 64gb 4g for $500 off gumtree on the weekend.

    • Fell off the back of a truck..?

      • nope

      • +1

        fell out of someones bag

        • just hope not bikies bag

          • @CyberMurning: nope was a fisherman who works on a trawler actually :0 not that matters. 1/2 apple price :)

              • @zqipz: yep i still saved $157, i knew about that deal was going to do it but saved me dealing with flouts, most wouldn't though and pay apple $997.

                • @[Deactivated]: Just interesting why someone would sell it that cheap…I'd be a bit worried, but great deal for you!

                  • @JuryWheel: Got it off optus with a Samsung S20 and decided he didn't want it, was opened to take the sim out but not activated, so just sold it cheap, was lucky i saw it last Friday wanted $700 i offered $500, works great. I have bought and used and flipped heaps/50 plus iphones/ipads off gumtree so know what i am doing. Never had one problem. My wife is still using a new XR i got for $600 over a year ago now.

                    • @[Deactivated]: So safe to asume you have a "saved search" alert on gumtree, wait for a good item to come up and low ball hoping they want a quick sale at any price…? Not having a go, ive bought/sold plenty of stuff for profit…i just assumed it would be much harder with Apple items and sellers would hold out a little for a good price…

                      • @JuryWheel: agree. seller will also potentially got annoyed to receive 100+ messages SMS phone call.
I've done this (both buy and sell apple stuffs) before, not going to do it again

                      • @JuryWheel: No just check a few times a day. Depends on the seller and how quick they need the cash, some want near new price. I live in a city of 60,000 so cash buyers are harder to come by. I got a X once that was a few days old for like $600 off new price, she bought it from JB and didnt like it.
Used a New XR i got for myself for $500 for 9 months and sold it for $900.

    • iwantthat too

This is a good upgrade from Air 2?

    • The Air 2 still has a better screen but its CPU is slower.

    • It is if the Air 2 doesn't get iOS 14.

    • Air series is more premium, this is budget. Budget means they cut corners to reach the price point. This uses an A10 which is 3 years behind current best Apple chip (air series latest and greatest available at release), no laminated screen, poorer speakers etc However compared with the old Air 2 it’s more like a side grade (better in some ways worse in other areas) with extended support.

I have an old air 2 and I wouldn’t replace it with this. Even though the air 2 probably will lose major update support this year. It’ll still be fine for another 12 months. I’ll wait until next gen budget iPad with at least A12. :)

  • Never owned an iPad before. Mum's a teacher and asked if I could get her one.
Does anyone know if these iPads are quick & reliable to use (for teaching?)

    • +1

      short answer - yes

    • +4

You won't find a better tablet. This has Apple pencil support, too - so can be handy for signing stuff, writing reports, etc.

      • Thanks - got one. Thanks OP too.

      • Teachers will find lots more to do with a Pencil.

    • I think teachers can get an educational discount off iPads at Apple. Although this is probably still cheaper?

  • i was after a tablet, preferably ipad, for a gift to someone but if only this has more storage :( gunna have to pass on the 32gb unfortunately

  • All 12 Space Grey are sold!

If your budget / usage allows, this iPad Air 2019 bargain is arguably better:

    The iPad is sold-out now.

      • That is correct that Gold Color is still available.
        Thank you.
The promo code PMONTH200 is not working. Any other promo code?

      • Sorry for being a noob, but if buying from Optus online:
-Which plan length do I choose? 12, 24 or 36 month?
-Once I choose a plan, I pay and activate, then cancel the next day?

        TIA

        • +1

If you're just going on the plan to cancel straight away you would choose the cheapest plan which would be the 12 month plan. The cost of the item is the same it's the plan that makes it more expensive as you're paying for data.

  • +1

For $190 more this is a way better iPad deal. Cancel contract and pay in full

  • I'm an Android guy so not in the market for an ipad, but on any device these days 32gb isn't enough. Lack of expandable storage is a let down on these types of devices.

    • -2

      • +3

However you can put in a cheap microsd card for android.

        • not always

      • "On any device" 32gb isn't enough.

  • Code still working? I'm using ebay mobile app and it's not working.

    • Read above ;)

  • Both back in stock if anyone interested.
I thought with cloud services 32GB is ok but now that I have a 32GB iPad 6 wouldn’t recommend anything 32GB. Apps makes it full easily
