  • for a cheap 2nd computer for the kids or for simple internet browsing, $139 delivered is pretty damn good!

(just remember you need a monitor too folks… maybe order at same time so they deliver the lot?)

3 month warranty just to make sure everything is working ok, good one!

      Hi mattgal,
we are offer free shipping, also this is the lowest price in the market.

  • What are your thoughts on using this as a HTPC base system?

I /think/ it has the cpu grunt for the more cpu intesive codecs. If not make sure it has a 16x slot for it so you can put in a gfx card to offload the gruntwork onto.

My main concern, given the above, would be fan noise.

      • yeah, if you have powerDVD which uses the graphics card its fine, i use a P4 with a 8400GS, plays blu rays &1080P content at only 5/10% CPU usage.

but by the looks of it it does not have a decent pcie slot.

anyway, as for other PCs as long as you have a graphics card made in the last 5 years or so you should be fine…

        see: Pure video HD.

i dont know 140 bux for a second hand PC sounds expensive… Id rather spend more and get something brand new…
        IE

usually because they are newer they also have better specs…

it is double the price though, so, not really comparing it to the second hand system, Id spend half as much on a second hand system with the same specs.

It does not have a PCIE 16x slot. Only has 1 PCI + PCIE 1x slot.

In other words, it will not take in PCIE 16x graphics cards.

The integrated GPU should be fast enough to render 720p content at least, without dropping any frames.

There are 2 80mm fans in this chassis, and the CPU is passively cooled (heatsink is cooled by the chassis fan at the back). So it should be fairly quiet.

      • You can always get a 1x PCIE card. Alternatively, one could cut the back of the PCIE slot out so a longer card will fit (or it could be an open ended slot to begin with). Any PCIE card should work fine over 1 channel (1x) so long as you can get it into the slot mechanically…

no Video Card lot = no good for HTPC.

Its not suitable (insufficient gfx processing power UNLESS you only EVER want to play SD content.

      For high-def its a no-go.

      • Not true - full HD digital TV plays fine with onboard video. I am using this exact spec (c2d 1.86, ThinkCentre M series) with onboard video and it works fine with full HD digital tv via Windows Media Center.

Bluray is another matter, but some people don't bother with blurays or 1080p mkvs. Saying only SD content will work is misleading.

      • Yes.
My HTPC is a pentium-4 and plays HD_TV easily with software decoding.
You just need to add a tuner, s/pdif dongle/box, and new hard drive.

        • HD tv yes,(its equivilant to 720P) FULL HD 1080P no… my P4 does it only when using the gfx card.

  • Good price for a basic PC, fit for a home server purpose.

    • Hi There,

We have only limited stock for Q6600 and Q8200 Gaming systems at the moment.
Sorry can not offering free shipping until more stock coming.

      • Thanks. Please post it on OzBargains when free shipping is available on the same or similar system.

  • Do these accept a standard micro-ATX motherboard?
Could be a cheap way to get a quiet small-form case, and some parts.

    • Hi manic,

It can not support standard ATX Mother Board, it can only support IBM special size Mother Board.
Its a very quiet system as CPU is C2D, does not generate lots of heat.

  • new monitors can be had cheaply to suit this, such as a 20" benq for $83
