  • Is this any good?

    • +5

a simple google search can lead you to that answer.. for example

with that said the price being offered here IS very good compared to its RRP and what most places are selling it for

      • +1

I don't know much about smartwatches. What are the "missing high end features"? Like what sort of features are in high end watches, that this one is missing?

        • +1

I'm guessing having a SIM in the watch and ability to call from it would be "high end" can't think of what else

          • @Wilder94: What about steps, heartrate and sleep tracking etc?

            • +4

@nuttapillar: Has all of that, they work fine.
Annoyingly tracks heart rate at various times through the day and idk how to turn it off

          • +2

@Wilder94: and i guess as it is promoted as a fitness watch as such it is missing more extensive health and fitness tracking, including automatic tracking and the ability to take ECG readings which some of the newer (and a lot more expensive) ones have.

I use a older model of this it's pretty good, battery life is a bit short but other than that I've loved it, wouldn't pay RRP I paid 200 for mine.. this price is great

    • Reviews are really bad, 3.6/5 - 66% of respondents would recommend this to a friend https://www.fossil.com/en-us/products/fossil-sport-smartwatc…

      • +3

        3.6/5 isn't really bad. I'd say it's average.

Considering most people only post reviews if they are disappointed in a product, 3.6 is not a terrible score.

There is a similar one for the same price, in a darker colour, and I don't know what the differences are: https://www.davidjones.com//22633381/Q-Sport-43-Grey-Smartwa…

The size is one thing - the 41 is 41mm and the 43 is 43mm, I don't think the functionality is any different, but battery perhaps?

      • I believe that the size is just of the watch - screen size is the same.

  • +1

Got it from Fossil shop at DFO Essendon for the same price last week. Can be laggy sometimes but worth $160

  • +1

NO speaker is a deal breaker for me :(

    • yep, Huawei GT2 or Samsung Active 2 for me. Waiting for a deal.

    • +1

Would you use the speaker? I've had my frontier S3 since launch and probably only used the speaker <10 times.. Mostly in the first month

  • +3

Don't buy this. The battery life is around 6 hours can't even last a day. Extremely disappointed

    • what, really!! This should be in the description, definitely a big no

    • +3

Not with the latest updates. My sport runs all day fine

      • I went for a bike ride for around 1 hour and the battery drained 30-40%, if you just want the watch for the look, go ahead, if you want the watch for fitness, get fitbit.

For anyone wanting to remove unwanted packages from their watch to improve performance, and battery life.

will that cause any issues in OTA updates?

      • +1

No idea but unless you incorrectly disable OS services updates should work fine. Will test once I pick mine up for testing later today.

You can just as easily reverse the changes.

I'm definitely not buying another smart watch until someone makes a better watch SoC. Even Samsung is half assing it because there's no competition (and they're not that great at building their own chips, Exynos is good but not great)

This watch uses the Wear 3100, which is still based on the Snapdragon 400 from 8 years ago. If someone tried selling a phone at a premium price with the hardware from a Galaxy S3 they'd be laughed out of the room.

Fortunately there should be a new SoC this year that's "only" 2-3 year old hardware (was the budget entry from 2 years ago that still used all old designs/cores/fabs). It'll basically catch up to the Exynos 9110 Samsung has been shipping in products for the last 2 years. And hopefully Google will start making their own chips next year, start investing some time into their smart watch OS and actually release a decent product.

  • Bought. Wanted Watch Active 2 but this at half the near best price of it seems worth the risk for first crack at experiencing a smart watch.

wish apple watch supports android. it would crush Samsung gear and kill android wear os

    • Not really… It'd be heavily throttled with lack of app store support

      • It has appstore running on the watch now though

  • +1

    Diesel watch

    • That's actually the same company. This one is a bit older too iir - looks great though

      • shame it doesn't have a speaker, the specs says it has, it it doesn't

  • +1

    Thanks for posting.

AMEX have a spend $100 online get $15 back offer for DJ online too.

Anyone have any luck with the $10 welcome reward voucher for signing up?

  • How's the GPS?

  • Which generation are Q Explorist?

    • Google shows smapdragon 2001 so i assume older than the sport

  • This or Fitbit Versa 2?

  • A quick note that the ones left in stock (Yellow, pink and red at time of writing) are now an extra 30% off - bringing them down to $139.20.
