      This 👆

May be worth it having a play with it on XDA for <$400 or so.

      • -5

Really? I mean why it is so cheap at XDA? they cannot install google services in this mobile?

        • +8

XDA is a forum for Android modification. Not a place that sells phone.

He means that if you could get this phone for <$400, maybe it would be worth considering to then mod it with help from XDA guides to potentially manually install google etc.

    • +5

I have a P40 Pro .. if you want to de-google your life a bit, then it is pretty easy.

If you want to use every Google app, then I would avoid.

I am happy with my P40 Pro.

  • you can Google how to install GMS and it is a good phone for its camera.

    • +3

I just did. It is not extremely straight forward. If you know a straight forward way, please link it.

This is the one I looked at

    • +39

Still no google pay, hd netflix, authentication app issues, notification issues, issues with some bank apps.

$1k for all those headaches. Pass

    • -5

U can also google why huawei is banned in first place

      • +27

I can also google why the earth is flat.

      • +3

        lol how does that help..?

        • -6

if u don't care who tracks u, ur good to buy.

          • +4

@hopper: How do u know u r not being tracked now?

          • +5

@hopper: R U not tracked by Google, your ISP and your mobile carrier? The OZ data laws will make sure not only ASIO but other law enforcement agencies can track you too, and so are the 5 eyes.
The real problem is whether you worth their trouble or not. If yes, you should know better, if you are nobody, who give a funk.

    • +1

whilst I love my P40 Pro .. unless you want to de-google, I would avoid hacking GMS onto the phone.

it's a lot of hassle, just so you can get a DXOMARK score of 128 compared to 122 for a Galaxy 20U.

It is very easy to de-google if you want to.

  • Just seen in news that p40 can check ur body temperature using IR on the backside.

    • +10

why does it have to scan my backside?
because the surface area is largest on my bum?

      • +3

        Exactly

      • +1

because it can also measure methane output at the same time.

    Just…no….

Mate 30 Pro is worth $500 max, P40 Pro is DOA. They're seriously dreaming charging over $1k for it.

    • I am really happy with my P40 Pro .. nice upgrade from Pixel 4 XL.

      • did you install google services on it? or just using apks?

  • +8

OnePlus 8 is cheaper, better & has full Google. Why would anyone pick this?

    • +3

Well 28 up voted, including someone who clearly wasn't buying it and is taking the piss….

So yeah…. who knows on this site.

    • +1

OnePlus 8 Pro is about $1400 to 1500 for the IN023 model.

My P40 Pro was $1250 and it is amazing.

    • No local warranty

  • +10

It is a bit of a shame, it really is a very nice phone, and my S8 is starting to show her age.
    But…..
I would rather staple gun my own nuts to a wall then go through the Penile dance of getting Google on this phone.

    • I am also on a S8 wanting to a new phone. My order for Oppo Reno zoom was cancelled. My search continues

      • If you dont mind the cameras, the Oneplus 7T is best imo

    • +7

I too would rather staple gun this guy's nuts

      • +3

Normally I demand at least a good bottle of wine, some sparkling dinner conversation, and a movie, but for you, I can make an exception.. if you install Google on this 30 Pro for me.

      • I'd rather staple gun this guy's nuts as well.

  • +6

The second that the Goog is allowed back on these and I'll buy a Mate 30 Pro… Until then they're paperweights in the west. I don't know why Huawei is even bothering trying to sell them in western markets.

    • Because they'll show up on ozbargain that's why

    • +2

Because there's enough stupid people in the west to buy them 😂😂😂

  • I'm genuinely curious as to:

    • Sales volumes of the device (relative to other comparable devices)
    • How many requests for refunds they get (from people that weren't aware there was no Google?)
    • How many people genuinely buy this (especially at this price point) knowing that there's no Google, with the intention of continuing to use it Google-less

But who am I… armchair CEO? LOL

    • Maybe some of the Tin Foil hat brigade? I agree, it really must be a deal-breaker for the vast majority

    • +2

I have a P40 Pro and I have de-googled .. not because I care about my privacy, but just for a change.

Quite easy to switch over and get everything done.

  • +10

F Trump!! if not for him, we could have all enjoyed this high end phone without restriction at a very reasonable price..

  • -4

    China!!! XDDDD

  • -1

Good deal… but I have read some where Australia is prepared to ban Huawei from its 5G network…!!

    • let's wait for another half a year….

    • +5

      Aren’t they all?

      • Nope. Not even close. Samsung, LG, ASUS, Sony, Motorola, and no doubt others are not made in China.

    • +5

Love to know which phone you own that wasn't

      • Samsung.

    • All phone you own are made in China….

grow up.. don't just hate without knowing the facts…

      Note: I'm not from China

      • No, they're not. Do some research.

        • My comments is the phones you own are made in China, not stating the facts that all phones in the world are made in China.

I'm really keen to 'do some research' on the phones you have used.

I just learn from google that Samsung stops their production in China since Oct 2019. If you hate the country, do you not use any Samsung (or Apple) products before October 2019?

If yes then just continue to hate just for the sake of hating :)

          • @b0b0: I don't know how you can claim that "the phones [I] own are made in China". How do you know what I own?

If you did a bit more research, you'd also discover that the majority of Samsung phones manufactured in China prior to Oct 2019 were exclusively for the Chinese market. Chinese stopped buying Samsung phones, so they shut down production in China. Samsung phones made for other regions (i.e. those sold in Australia by Samsung) were not made in China — mostly South Korea, and more recently possibly Vietnam for the lower end models.

Therefore, I will reiterate again. I and my family own various phones, mostly Samsung, none of which were made in China. None of which cost anything close to $1000 either!

            • @dcash: I learn new things today. Thank you for the enlightenment

That said, if Huawei does have GSM again in the future, I would recommend you to try..

    • Rofl. Even bloody iPhones are made in China. Too bad they're still overpriced too.

      • Yup. And I'd never buy one!

    • over %52 of aussies seems to have another opinion.

edit: as oppose to a made in Vietnam phone over $1,000.00?

      • What part of my reply gave you any indication that I was speaking on behalf of anybody but myself? Personally I would never buy an iPhone. What's your point?

        • your money, your prerogative. so your choice is decided on where its made?

          • @ashtrayc2c: Of course. So why am I the devil for not wanting to spend $1000 on a Chinese made phone? I'm happy to support Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam and others. Why does that make me a bad person?

            • @dcash: how "does your money, your prerogative" make you a bad person?

              • @ashtrayc2c: I don't know. But obviously those who downvoted me because I didn't want to buy an expensive Chinese made phone believe it to be so.

  • -3

Huawei phones always get up votes here, which makes you think whether something suspect is going on. Either way, you'll be lucky if a single person actually lays out money on this deal.

    • +1

Huawei posts are getting upvotes for the phones' build and quality. I believe the upvoters include real Huawei user who understands the quality and reliability of the phone

For the price (~1200), P40 and Mate 40 are quite worth it and hence the upvote. You will be surprise how many users Huawei has..

Not having GMS is definitely a downside, everyone needs to do their own due diligence before any purchase. But I think the forum comments (including the haters' comments) are more than enough highlight this……

  • It's an open secret that the CCP up votes Huawei products on ozbargain

  • +4

Apple : Bad sensor in dark.
Samsung : Bad filters in dark.

Huawei : Bad relationship in US.

    • Nokia: Died long ago. What a shame :(

  • +5

I'm huge fan of Huawei phones (Nexus 6P into Mate 9 into P30 Pro), and I'm hoping that the p30 pro will keep me going until such a time Google is either back on Huawei, or Huawei has sorted their shit out and AU can use it without impediment.

  • good price, but it's better to wait for half year… sorry.

    • oh yes … I cant wait to upgrade my P40 Pro to the Mate 40 Pro :)

  • -4

Don't buy any Huawei and Xiaomi phone. Unless you want all your data gone to Chinese government.

    • +1

Don’t just jump on the bandwagon when you don’t have any basis, these kind of comments make me sick.

      • Stop making him sick, clean up in aisle 5!

    • +3

You're thinking Trump will take care of your interests with all your data in the US with google and Apple?

    • +4

What can Chinese phone company do to you that US can't?

You may want to read into what sort of data of yours are looked into and analysed by Apple/Google for the past decade

To not expose your data to any government a good way would be to ditch mobile phones and write physical letters instead, best if they are sent using pigeons :)

      • +1

I wanna say that's a good joke but there are actually some truths there. They can still kill the pigeons if they have to.

  • Curious if the newer P40 Pro+ will arrive in Australia.

    • At likely above $2,200aud, It's not very likely, but then again the mate xs folding phone exists over here. I doubt there is anyone buying it at that cost though.

  • I would like to have one for P40 Pro+ if any chance is available.

  • Id feel the p40 is a steal at that price if it had Google.

  • For those on the fence with the P40 Pro and Mate 30 ….
