comaprison to VTV for $72 is another debate. I find this better with AFR and like the Mi remote more.

Mi Box S or Vodafone TV?

    • +1

top question! Mi has AFR - auto switch frame rate as a plus!

    • slightly different, would be good if they took Amazon prime Movies without sideloading.
I've got the Voda, great for most things but Prime doesnt work as native app from GoogleTV store.

Own first gen Mi box, wondering if it's worth to revisit and get the new one for the other TV ?

I have a Vodafone TV. The only reason why i got it is because i can get free air tv on it (have an old tv some friends got from overseas who doesn't work here). My mom had a MiBox TV and it worked perfectly fine, i guess they are really similar and any of them should be fine in most cases. (If you are looking at VERY specific features, then you might find a big difference)

Vodafone can no longer play a USB device formatted NTFS.

      • It can via an app, but the app costs $4 and is not an elegant solution (the app is cumbersome).

      • It is a pain as large MKV files can't be played directly from external HDD. There is a paid app but it is not a great app. In this case, I think Mi Box is a better option.

        • FT32 can't play files over 4GB? There is no workaround for this I assume?

          • +1

@Charlie Dont Surf: FAT32 can't play over 4 GB, you are correct. You need NTFS formatting for larger files. The workaround is to download JS USB OTG app on your VTV box (paid app) and use this to browse the large files and play them. It is a workaround but it is not a nice one.

  • ~$82 would be cheaper than a Chromecast Ultra. Good deal in that regard as this supports 4K casting?

  • Hmm here with first gen MIBox as well and have downloaded prime as a sideload - https://prime-video-android-tv.en.aptoide.com/?app_id=519117…
    Installed via fileshare on mibox.

  • Does the play mkv from hdd and decide dts for stereo lcd

Main differences between vtv and mibox would be:

Vtv has gig wired ethernet and fta tv

    While mibox has AFR.

      perfectly summarised

VTV doesn't have optical audio out. Mi does.

        • We cast Spotify to our speaker via the Mi Box S - yep optical out (via mini TOSLINK) a biggie for us.

  • Need another chromecast and something that can natively play plex. Hope this works well.

    • +1

yes, plex works perfectly at mi box

  • looking to have Amazon prime.. can it be used?

    • you have to sideload the app. no native support for amazon prime

  • Can it play mkv with dtsX and ATMOS pass through?

    • quick google search shows ppl chatting about it on forums, sounds like no it doesnt..

  • And VTV too

  • Specs : weigh with battery 147kg! Big battery or big unit lol

  • Love this unit - works great out of the box, very fast and responsive. Mine had Amazon prime on it… I just had to sideload Disney plus.

I also tried streaming (direct play) 70-80GB Blu-Ray ISOs off the NAS with Kodi and it works fine too.

  • Is gst included in the price?

  • Has anyone actually bought anything from this seller?

    The reviews are terrible: https://au.trustpilot.com/review/tobydealsau.com

    • +2

Yeah I bought the xiaomi box from here. Took about a week to arrive, no issues.

  • +1

This device is fine as long as you do not update the stock android tv version. I gave up on trying to undo the update, sold it for $70 and bought a vodafone TV box for $72 which arrived within 3 days. I couldn't be happier! VTV is a much stable device even if you compare it to the latest mi box firmware update. Note to self, not all Xiaomi device are good!

Toby's deal on the other hand would have everything 'In stock' with 8 days delivery time. 3 weeks later and their 'stock' hasn't arrived.

    • Do you need to be a Vodafone customer (home internet) to use this?

      • +1

Nope. It's just like any other Andoid box but it does come with a free vodafone sim.

    • may i know what's wrong with the updated android tv?

    • so it doesn't update to Android TV 9?

  • My 2 cents. I have one of these, and an apple tv 4k and a fetch mighty. Fetch mighty and apple tv are unreal. This is no good. Really slow and unresponsive. If you can pickup an apple tv 4k used then I think it's a way better option. I don't use apple products but the apple tv is great.

Another option if you're not desperate could be to wait for the new Chromecast with a remote. Not sure when it's going to be released but it looks fantastic.

    • What's an example of where it's slow?

  • Does anyone if - and how - Foxtel app can be loaded to this?
