    Sorry CPH101! Know for future

I seem to forget every time

  • If you don't want to wait for delivery or have 5% off wish cards, it's $59.95 a bottle at Dan Murphy's online at the moment.
    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_904127/grey-goose-v…

    • Yep, boozebud piggy back off DMs pricing as they see them as their only competitor.

    • you can get 14.5% disc on Woolies egiftcards if you have a metal Visa card.

What's the cheapest per mL delivered vodka available right now?

    • +10

I would like your finest cheapest vodka, thank you.

    • Can't be arsed working out per mL but the cheapest, non special price for 700mL you'll find is probably $32 for Ruskov or Poliakov.

      • Run it through brita charcoal filter and ends up tasting just as good as anything else for mixers.

        • really?

    • The ALDI tamlova is half this.

      • +2

Got a bottle before. Never again

      • Actaully Tamova

    • +4

Its Vodka mate, its made rough and ready and is far more like moonshine than say whiskey. Theres really only good vodka or crap vodka, its not aged in oak or old sherry barrels from French vineyards like a Whiskey, or new American oak like a bourbon.

The idea of higher end Vodka is a marketing ploy.

      • +3

        Tell that to my hangovers!

        • +1

Which is why unlike others, I include an option for crap vodka thanks to inferior ingredients like less pure water.

  • Any recommendations for a smooth Vodka to drink neat?

    • +1

I drink Belvedere neat, and Zubrowska too.

Zubrowska with cloudy apple juice to me tastes like apple pie if you want a change.

My wife keeps stealing my vodka to make home made vanilla essence, so I might stock up with the goose.

      Pax

      • +3

Zubrowka, i especially like the one with the grass thingy inside

Best vodka i tried neat was Nemiroff

      • +1

If you want apple pie, try fireball and apple cider.

        • oooo, I've got a small fireball at home. Giddy Up!!

    • I also like Belvedere neat, but its a personal preference with vodkas. Grey Goose is also pretty nice, but be careful if your adding ice as it'll really amplify any metallic tastes in your frozen water.

    • +1

      Russian Standard Gold.

    • chew mint gum and drink vodka straight.
Tastes sweet.. gets you EFFD up

    • Ketel one is very smooth. It has an almost oily feel to it.

Woaa. When did Amazon start selling alcohol?

    • today

      • Yesterday

      • OP mentioned they ordered yesterday.. So can't have been today for sure.

      • +1

I ordered 3pm yesterday and at my door 8am today. Quality service and zero complaints. Mrs got some well priced Champagne also!

        • What champagne?

          • +2

@povertytrap: Chandon Brut 6 pack. Was cheap and not at Dans / BWS

            • +1
            • @[Deactivated]: That would be because Moet & dans are having a little spat at the moment regarding the high increased cost prices in the last CPI

              • @TheXylis: Oh I didn't know this. Makes sense though as few times we had stopped in to get Veuve or Moet (Mothers day etc) and nada. Wonder how long that lovers tiff will last?? ha ha

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Dans are like that spoiled child you see at a supermarket throwing a tantrum until they get what they want. I wish people wouldn't support them.

              • +1

@TheXylis: got an article for that or in the industry?

They also got in shit for abusing their powers. They would send wine back to the companies they didn't sell and if they didn't credit them back plus add an addition fee for loss of sale, they would threaten to pull all their wines from every Dans, BWS nationwide.

                • +1

@sauce2k6: In the industry, yep Dans has a big head about them, that's basically what they did with moet.

                • @sauce2k6: Owned by Woolies, or was, same businss that crushed farmers on prices, among other despicable tactics. Then they add a tax to milk as if they are doing their part to save our 'poor farmers', suggesting to the public are you doing your part? Shifted the blame for a problem they caused in the first place.

Cheeky bastards. Yet we still shop there, its easy, convenient and we forget so easily when its like that.

                • +1

@sauce2k6: Usually comes from 'internal hear it all the time. When you have a monopoly you can do whatever you want. Until you get caught out. Then the 6 customers that actually cared go elsewhere.

            • @[Deactivated]: Brut, not Champagne.

Same price at Uncle Dan's, could be a price match.

But Amazon are now just killing me… now they have alcohol.. it's over for my wallet.

    • I had a look at stuff I normally buy for regular quaffing and mixing like Captain Morgan rum, Johnnie Black scotch, Gordon's gin, Absolut vodka, El Jimador tequila, and Amazon's prices are the same or even a dollar or two cheaper.

I'll probably use Amazon instead of Dan's as I can just pick it up from my Parcel Locker/Post Office on the way home from work which is less hassle than going to the Uncle Dan's or Liquorland near me.

      • I love Amazon and I was/am excited that they now do alcohol. Will be on the lookout for some good prices, but based on what you said about prices being the same the first one I looked at, El Jimador Tequia was cheaper at Dan's, and way cheaper on special at BWS for $46 vs $60.
        https://bws.com.au/product/348013/el-jimador-reposado-tequil…

Regardless, the more competition the better.

        • Sorry, I should have clarified. I was referring to El Jimador Blanco not the Reposado which is $49.99 at Amazon and $54.99 at Uncle Dan's. BWS don't stock it and neither do Liquorland from memory.

          • @Blokeinhisundies: Aah the cheap stuff 😉
Makes sense, you said you use it mainly for mixing, I get the resposado usually, and use it mainly for marghetitas, don't know that much about tequila really.
Anyway I'll be keeping an eye out for some good bargains and hopefully some cashback too, and get it delivered with my muesli bars and toilet paper.

        • El jimador is usually cheaper at Indies ;)

  • Is that the 1l bottle or the 700ml? .. they don't really make them in a 750ml.

    • I'm pretty sure at that price it would be the 700ml. 1l couldn't go that low.

      • Yep.. more likely, although the pic is what's throwing me because the current 700ml bottle design is different. Ordered anyway, see what turns up. 50 bucks is pretty good even for the 700

    • Almost certainly 700mL.

      • +1

Majority of spirit bottles around the world are 750mL so this is probably just the overseas version being imported into Australia.

Easy examaple would be Jim Beam

Australia Jim Beam 700ml 37% alcohol
Overseas Jim Beam 750mL 40% alcohol.

Not only do we pay an extortion in alcohol taxes, but we also get less mL and less alcohol content.

Grey Goose I can definitely confirm there is a 700ml and a 750mL because I have stocked both in the last 1 month.

      • 700ml

    • Based on weight it has to be 700mL, but it's crazy that they don't specify.

    • they definitely do make a 750ml bottle.

  • +7

Vodka in the pantry section. Is this Amazon.ru?

  • Remember to warn whoever is likely to accept the delivery that their ID will be checked when accepting the delivery.

  • Grey Goose Vodka 1 Lite is on special at BWS for $88.00 right now, I just got notified by email.

If you use 5% discount Wish cards, you will save more than this deal, and have more alcohol to enjoy!

CashrRewards or ShopBack probably won't give you a rebate, but it's worth a try.

    • Just go to Dan's and get the 700mL bottle for $59.95, after 5% wish cards that's $56.95 for 700mL compared to $58.52 for 700mL in your example.

  • Amazon selling alcohol is good. Dans and BWS a\have too much of a monopoly. I just wish their prices were a bit better.

    • Not much room on price for a lot of stuff as the majority of the cost is taxes. That's why you rarely, if ever, see spirits for anything under $30 for a 700mL bottle. Beer margins are something paltry like 10% as well from memory.

  • all vodkas are the same apparently..

    https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/337537

    • +1

They are the same, they don't taste the same.

    • American's tend to have a slightly different definition of Vodka, They intentionally distill and filter it to get rid of all character and flavour. Some of my favourite vodka's are ones like the Belvedere unfiltered Rye.

  • +3

Costco’s Kirkland vodka (sold in Australia) is well known to be Grey Goose under different branding. Bottles are much bigger than this though.

    • It's not Grey Goose under different branding. It's water is sourced from the same location as Grey Goose. Grey Goose has denied they make Kirkland vodka.

      • +1

Grey Goose is probably a subsidiary of something like Black Duck, who make both. So Grey Goose can say not this little black duck… of course they will protect their niche, fake as it is.

        • Grey Goose is a subsidiary of Bacardi who have also denied the claim. regardless their are 2 Costco vodka's, the American crap one and the french one which is pretty good. have not looked at which one we get here but their website suggests it is the American version (edit correction they sell both).

  • Dan Murphys are selling Grey Goose for $84.90. Use Wish cards to save money.

Anyone buying this listen to this podcast first… premium vodka is a squiz https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2018/02/23/588346329/epis…

    • But if you enjoy it more than your basic vodka, who actually cares? Its like a Prada bag, yes the same raw material but if it's pleasing to the owner it's all good

      • Hmmmm, sort of. Except in this case the only difference is the bottle. Did you listen to it?

        • our one lab didn't detect any taste-able differences even with our homemade vodka. And the law seems pretty clear to us. But Grey Goose insists there is a difference. They also invited us to come have a drink with them. We are willing to continue our research.

Even though it's USA centric it's interesting to hear but I'd like to see more clear cut evidence.

          • @FlatulentFrank: How about how Vodka is made and then realise theres not much they can do differently? Choice of water, source of the sugars. But essentially most if not all of the tastes are lost when its distilled. After that all they do is add water.

Contrast it with Bourbons that do have significant variation possibilities, it has to be 51% corn mash (something like that anyway) they use virgin American oak barrels which impart flavours from the wood like vanillas, caramels, whatever etc… it has specific proofs before the barrel, and must meet a specific proof range when leaving the barrel. Tennessee whiskey is similar but has less rigid rules but meets most of them, its often rye mash etc though and charcoal filtering, I forget the rest. Scotch uses peat (easy source of fuel in Scotland) to dry the malted barley which leaves distinctive smokey flavours, then once made they age it in barrels for varying times that used to have Sherry or Madeira or whatever in it so they get hints of those drinks too.

Vodka, is like moonshine, its just ethanol, which is a chemical compound, thats diluted with water then bottled. The only aging is to make the ethanol. Bourbon starts life like this, thats 'shine. Vodka can be rubbish, or good. But theres no scientific reason to believe the marketing of grades of good. Theres just no part of the process to pick up tastes and develop the things that make say one Bourbon or Scotch better than another.

You might be able to argue with less distillations, theres traces of or hints of whatever the source of sugar was for vodka. I doubt it given how its made, and that what you get is just ethanol.

I didnt watch, so if its covered, my bad.

            • @Tuba: All i can say is… absolute vodka tastes like poison. Not all Vodka. Just Absolute.

              • @hypie: If you think that is bad, don't buy any of the mass produced stuff from Estonia.

People certainly have their preferences on vodka depending on whether the base is grain or potato…

Just gotta get me some cider to see what the fireball and cider tastes like…

        • +1

never listen to American based discussions on Vodka unless what you are after is a neutral spirit for mixing in cocktails. The US definition of vodka is a spirit that is distilled and filtered to be without distinctive character, aroma, taste, or color.

  • Delicious. Ordered on Amazon and uncle dan!

  • Ruskov makes my white Russians at half the price.

  • GG is $50 every day at my local bottle'o. Guess I'm spoiled.
