        Sarcasm, look it up

This guy ^ knows what's up

          • +3

            @MrChadley: It's amazing.
Not only is the show offensive but now sarcasm is not allowed either.

Why all the negs to mrchadley?

            • +5

@mick123: Because it was stupid sarcasm, I guess.

            • +1

@mick123: Because there are people who actually think like this and sarcasm is hard to convey online because of that.

      Peter Dutton watches this?

    • +8

Get it before they remove The Germans!

      • +2

Never mind the Englishman playing a Spaniard, absolutely disgraceful!!

    • There's a few people around that aren't happy about the "Flowery Twats" sign at the start of episode 11, you're not alone :(

      • FLICKIT

    • Humor ceases to be funny if it requires explanation.

    • DON'T MENTION THE CANCELLATION!

    Popcorn time

  • +7

    Awesome show!

  • +5

Even though it ran for 2 seasons (1975 & 1979). There was only 12 episodes. Much like the Young Ones. Very short.

Mod Note: Updated 1875 to 1975 at the request of commenter.

    • +48

Quite uncommon for a series to have a 104 year gap between seasons

      • +6

The good ones stand the test of time.

        • +2

I remember the first series all those years ago even though I was just a baby.

      • +3

The first season was set in the distant future.

    • +4

yeah, audience didn't take it too well when they realized John Cleese was an ageless vampire

  • +26

If you don't like this show don't watch it. I find it funny and so does my German wife who uses some of the lines from that eps as a joke, it's a shame that some people just can't get on in life and be happy and stop causing these problems.my 2cents.

      • +10

But we can still laugh that the Spanish are Stupid?

        • +5

Don't know if we can, but I certainly will.

        The dying art of satire:
The major was supposed to blurt out inappropriate lines. He was intended to be shocking.
He was written as a form of inter-generational satire of a colonial-era Englishman who's time had passed and language is lost to its own anachronism.
He was also directed as near dementia and mostly drunk.
The writers were criticizing an earlier generation's casual racism via satire.

        • The dying art of reading comprehension - where somehow nobody saw I literally said it's intended as satire.

          • +1

@OfTheOverflow: That’s the first time I’ve heard the phrase “reading comprehension” in more than 35 years. Have one on me :-)

    • +8

The PC crowd don't seem to realise that context is everything.

      • +3

The only sport allowed in the past few months has been looking to be offended on behalf of others. Glass jaws looking for a fist to run into

    Ooh… price war.

I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

      • +8

Agreed. If this was pure digital it would have been erased from history by now.

    • No you don’t.

  • +2

Coming up as $47.44 for me.

  • My grandma would love this

  • Yes not coming up at the right price.

    • +1

I'd walk a million miles to see her smile

  • It seems cheaper than the JB Hi Fi deal because it is.

  • +3

Is it not banned yet? 😱 Joking… One of the most funny tv series ever.

  • +3

(profanity) ches trying to ban everything. Torrenting will never die in this age.

  • +1

John Cleese @ Connie Booth must be laughing their silly asses off at the irony of this p.c. nonsense :0
What must they think of these observers of PC'ness who are appropriating out-rage by proxy on behalf of the society we live in.

I guess Basil the Rat aka the Siberian Hamster along with The Hotel Inspector, The Builder, The Food/Health Inspector, and not forgetting the #MeTooMovement taking up Rachel's case will be next in the firing line.

I once played the episode "The Germans" and watched with my German family. I think I may have got away with it because they were crying tears of laughter ;)

Is this the death of brilliantly written comedy and satire written for the times? … Maybe next there will be a retrospective cleansing out of all comedy and satire all the way back to Shakespeare and the Italian Commedia dell'arte

Digital formats of this show may be erased immediately, I just hope my DVD version doesn't eventually suffer disk rot.

    • I blame the hip hop
