So, brother mono laser is cheap to get refills?

    • +2

Yeah, if you get clones but pretty much all legit toner is expensive.

      • my hack forever

    • I refilled a Canon laser printer and it was kinda fine, but I'd constantly get flakes of toner on my pages, had to always brush them off. Prints were fine but the toner didn't melt properly or something. but for the price maybe it's worth it, who cares about flakes.

Fuji xerox after market toners are even cheaper.

@voteoften..I have filled brother toner before. I need to check with Lexmark printer when this toner need to be filled. Brother printers often paper lifter roller worn out. I wasn't successfull with replacing them with new parts. However brother printer served me well enough. Now time to check this. Pros It is wireless. I think brother wireless would be expensive for wireless.
    Definately it's not for buisness.

    • Canon laser printers have an additional replaceable part, which is rated for 20 thousand pages or something. I forget, but I did learn all about it once. Most other toner printers incorporate the drum roller into the replacement toner cartridge itself. Actually I think it was a Brother not a Canon.

I have a brother mono laser printer similar to this one, official cartridge price is 85$ (1200 pages) for the normal one and 140$ (3000 pages) for high capacity one. Mind you they only print half the number of pages than what the box states.

So I normally get a compatible cartridge which is about 25$ for a high capacity one and I seriously cant make out the difference.

        I think sometimes it’s accidental. 😟🙄🤔

I really want to get rid of my greedy HP one. I need to get back to mono cartridge. So sick of the HP refusal to use clones and the stupid error messages.

    • +2

Where did you get the printer from and from where are you buying the toners?

    • +1

You're printing half the pages that the toners are advertised at because it depends on your average page coverage. Someone else printing with less toner coverage per page might print more pages than the toner is advertised at.

The page ratings in laser toners are more of a comparison tool than an actual page number to expect out of your cartridge. And page ratings are calculated based on an ISO standard that all manufacturers use, it's not a marketing ploy.

    • wow thanks for mentioning that!

I have a brother laser printer and no matter whether I bought an original cartridge or a compatible cartridge, and regardless of normal capacity or high capacity, I was consistently getting way less prints out of them and i thought my printer is faulty. I was getting like what you said about half of the toner capacity before the printer says toner low. Glad it wasn't just me!

    • Yeah my OEM toner just finished and I purchased two high capacity toners for 35 dollars.

In general very happy with my printer, only if it did duplex

  • Aftermarket toner still work with these newer one?

  • +5

Brother is king for cheap aftermarket toner, fuji xerox also, all other brands watch out before you spend the money.

    • Exactly. This should be one of the purchasing criteria for any printer should anyone decide to buy. How much are they willing to pay for toner or ink as a running cost.

I find brother printers more reliable and better after market toners.

  • Any compatible cheap toner under $25?

Cheapest way to refill. Refer to above video

    • Why did he pull the chip out at the end?

      • I think it's supposed to be replaced with a new chip to get rid of the low toner warning.

        • Where do you get that?

          • @zemphism: Apart from that russian link in that video, I have no idea.

            • @Livert: i just buy the cheap toner off of ebay, and just make sure you buy the one that has the chip. it is only a few bucks more than the one without the chip.

            • @Livert: It was not Russian, it was Romanian.

              • @angers: Anyone know anything about resetting the chip and how to do it?

              • @angers: Anyone know how to reset the chip?

                • +1

@zemphism: You can read the value of the chip using a Arduino then, find and replace the changed address after doing several sample prints. Pin the address and change the value to 0. Then write to chip. Easier to solder some headers to the main reader and drill some holes in the plastic for easier access, rather than pulling the unit out every time to find the value. Or you could just buy a replacement chip which should cost about $4.

  • i hate my current xerox fuji laser scan print fax copy (from aldi $150), the wireless connection is so buggy, it is big, noisy and not capable of sending scan result to yahoo/gmail (cant remember what basically not supported, i think something about the printer not supporting SSL / TLS Communication protocols).
    very annoying

    • Scan to email is a feature most MFC makers don't want to put in sub-$200 MFCs.
My current xerox fuji laser printer is noisy when printing.

    • it'll be very diffcult to get scan to email working with any consumer grade printer, same with brother or any other brand, the easiest way is to set up an ftp server on one of your local computer (or even some router) to store the scanned file into your network

      • Yes I can send to my Synology nas, printer also has USB port I can put USB stick and save in there but send to email is always handy and save time.

      • There are consumer grade MFCs which have that feature, they are normally in the $300-$400 price range.

If the printer is next to a PC, even if it is non-MFC, there are software which does it. You do need to scan and e-mail from that PC, but it does work.

    • I ended up giving it a static IP and thr buggy wifi issue went away. I haven't really needed the scan to email feature. I just scan using the fuji xerox phone app and email it from thr phone.

  • Which printer would be better? This or Brother HL-L2350DW? Both are duplex and wireless and can be had for a similar price.

    • any laser that can do scan and copy and print as well? scanning is quite important

      • Any recommendations for a scan, copy and print laser?

    • Where can you get the Brother 2350 for $100??

    • Go for brother, scanning function is not that important if you use iPhone as a scaner (using scan in note app). Lexmark doesnt have generic toner compared to brothers. I have fuji xerox branded of l2350 (it’s p265dw), work like a charm, super cheap toner

      • A quick google DOES find generic toner for this Lexmark.

        • Still ridiculous expensive compared to brothers. I bought high capacity toner *4 in ebay for only $40 free ship. These generic for lexmark cost twice, not a bargain

  • Anyone recommend a printer where ink wont hurt the wallet?
    Don't care if only b&w.

    • -1

Have a look at Canon MB5460. $229 for the printer and about $20 for one set of inks.

    • get a laser printer they don't use ink

      • +1

        This is a laser printer.

    • Just get generic inks. Works out real cheap usually

    • +1

Definitely get a laser (like this one), that way you won't have to deal with ink drying up and having to replace it because of that on the inkjets, and in a mono laser you only need to replace the one cartridge.

Haven't had any issues with generic cartridges in my brother or lexmark units, they can be had fairly cheaply.

    • For inkjet printers, usually:
      - the cheaper printers, the most expensive the ink with less yield
      - the more expensive the printer, the cheaper the inks with more yield

Mono Laser printers are the most economical and best for printing documents.

  • FYI, Has Windows 10 support it seems.

Yo Brother the pigment of its case means possible additional discounts. Got a few single sided ones, all given to me. Impossible to kill. Once cartridge seems empty shake it side by side and it prints lots more.

    • It does claim 3000 pages though at least, assuming its to be believed

      • I bought a cheap Samsung compatible toner for $22 can print up to 2000 pages.

  • +1

All this garbage about genuine or non genuine refills.. If brother, lexmark, hp etc just CHARGED THE APPROPRIATE PRICE FOR THE PRINTER instead of cross subsidising it with ink sales they wouldn't have the problem. It's their own fault.

    • It probably isnt a problem, and theyve figured out that this is the best way to make money.

Samsung charged reasonable prices for their toners at $120-150 for 20k-25k. But they got bought out by HP who usually charge upwards of $550 for a similar capacity toner

      • +1

Nah, it's a problem. Think of the e-waste under this business model.

Did you forget what you were talking about or something…

  • I have the samsung equivalent and it's a solid trooper that's served well for a few years. Cheap toners for less than $20 on ebay work a charm. Except I get wifi connection issues — but not sure if it's my fault or the printer's wifi being stubborn. No touch control just manual buttons which can be tedious and loud.

Brother is the go. We have a L2360D series and it’s been great. $15 for high capacity toner every few years from aussie_toner on eBay - delivered. The equivalent in a colour laser is about $250 (Centrecom were the best when I looked into this for a local organisation) for the printer and $120 for a compatible full CMYK toner set. Their MFCs look good but for the scanning we do, we get good results just using the Scanner Pro app.

  • LMC has got same printer with bonus 6K toner for $189. Extra $90 for 6000 high yield toner is not bad?

Any recommendations on a colour laser printer that won't cost so much for inks ? :)

    • I would go for a Brother or Fuki xerox for home. Brother are led printers and are normally daster for colour printing. Fuji xerox are laser printers and colour printing is slower, however I find the image quality to be better on the fuji xerox.

showing for $119. Is there any coupon code?

    • @wanderingeyesau: It was $99 yesterday. They have increased to $119. Not worth it paying $119. Go with Brother wireless, which is around $109 to $119.

      • Where can you get the Bother 2350 for 109 to 119 and free delivery? Or pick up?

  • Paper is becoming obsolete.

    • Tell that to one of my previous workplace. Everyday Monday to Friday, in the first 2 hours of my day I would be printing close to 50 pages. End of the month reporting time? 150 pages each day. That's just me. Team has 6 people.

      • Becoming not has become. Probably will never become completely obsolete, but consumption will continue to decline.

      • In our workplace, COVID19 changed from printing to emailing. I guess that is how it would be going forward.

  • Needed one thanks!

  • +1

They have increased from $99 to $119.

  • I remember the just time I saw, the price was $99…

  • You will get 'up to 700 pages' using the cartridge that comes with this printer.
