  • I’m moving into a new place. Get the keys on the 3rd July. Anyone know if I can specify that date when I sign up? It’s still almost 3 weeks away.

Depending on your usage and rates, you could pay more over the six months confirmation period than you get back.

  • Does require you to stay connected for 6 months with them to get cashback

  • great

  • What's the process for switching energy companies? Do you need to notify your current provider first or they'll figure it out? How many days notice do we need to give them?

    • +1

Generally no, your new provider will take care of the switching.

  • No good for my address for cashback tracking :(

"Does the property have solar power? Yes

We're unable to sign you up online. Please contact our team to find out more about our solar plans, get a quote or to sign up."

Can’t negotiate your discount this way, you’ll end up paying more.

I went for this offer a few weeks ago. Then my energy company called to say why I’m leaving and I told them about this cash back offer. So now they are going to give me $200 credit if I don’t move away.

    So I stayed.

    • Sorry noob question - how did you achieve this? I am assuming you signed up with Energy Australia with this offer. How was your current provider able to delay the cut over to try and get you back?

      • The cut over isn’t instant. The incoming provider requests for the connection to be released from your existing provider. Once your existing provider releases you then your transfer takes place. Usually your provider will try to keep you if they can.

        • Hmmm makes sense. Thanks for the tip!

  • I received my $200 cashback after exactly 3 months of application (2 months after the switch).

  • When signing up, on the energy Australia site, it says $50 sign up for electricity and $50 for gas (via the cashrewards link).
This is then not valid I assume, and you only get the $200 via cashrewards, or are these sign up credits added on top?
    "
    $50 Sign Up Credit
+ Offer available to VIC & NSW residential customers who sign up to an electricity or gas offer. Limit of one $50 credit per new energy account, per customer address. We may change or end this offer at any time. Credit will be applied to your first bill and is not transferable or redeemable for cash.
    "

Or is the click through link wrong from my account (I can see https://www.energyaustralia.com.au/cashrewards?rewardcode=… in the address bar though).

    • As paranoid as I am, I took screenshots all the way through the process.
Unless I overlooked something, none of the terms seem to clearly state it isn't stackable (cashrewards + sign up credit), but mostly just hoping the cashback comes trough without hassle.

      • I got the same offer. I assume you'll get the 2x $50 credit from Energy Australia (on your bill), separate from the CashRewards $200 cashback. There are no coupons involved here that could invalidate the cashback.

        • For me, for electricity the credit is already showing too (to be applied on the next bill), on top of the cashback which tracked.
For gas I'm still waiting for the final meter read.

AGL was suddenly willing to improve my rates and commit to them for a year and offer me a $50 discount on the next bill, I politely declined and said I would re-evaluate after a year or so.
So AGL was ending up $5 cheaper per month, but with the cashback I'm still better of to go to EnergyAustralia.

Worst experience ever was a few months ago with Kogan energy. I signed up, and without notification the rates increased with almost 10-20% before I even got my first bill. Lesson learned is to not sign up before rates are reviewed (or go for a 1y fixed rate).

          • @johnmelb: I didn’t go ahead with it since my current provider (Origin) rang back and provided me better significant better % discounts plus 2x $100 credits. Will stay with them for at least the next 2 quarters.

  • How long does tracking usually take?

  • Really need to find out if we get the CR $110 PLUS the $50 sign up bonus on the site

    • It wouldn't surprise me if it's 2 different teams with different KPIs at EA running this: Marketing offers the Cashrewards deal as a short term incentive to drive incremental sales, Trade/Retail offers a standard one-off discount as an always-on bonus for everyone. I don't think one would void the other.

I PMed the mighty TA about this and he's getting his people to email Energy Australia.
Hopefully we'll have an answer soon

Hi KT. A response straight from EA :)

If the offer the customer has signed up to with EA through the link from Cashrewards has the $50 credit then yes, they will receive it. It should be applied to the customer's first bill. Note this is a limited time offer.
