PDTECH20

I though this looked like a good deal for this model.
"Limited Stocks" so likely a clearance item.
I believe this is good for competitive multiplayer FPS games like CS:GO.
TN display with high refresh rate (240hz) and low response time (1ms).

Also the Alienware Advanced Gaming Mouse AW558 AlienFX Lighting Effects is avaliable again at $47.20

    That's pretty cute.

TN panel, Ew!!, this is crime against your retina.

    • All speed mate

    • What wrong with TN panel?

      • -3

off-angle viewing are astrocious and colour reproduction is bad. only a hard core esport gamer need this refresh rate.

        • +4

Newer TN are actually pretty decent, hard to tell the difference! I think it was an issue on older tech panels but if you want good response time they're really not bad these days

        • +1

          Yep, first person shooter monitor.

Nobody is using these monitors to stand at a 45 degree angle and inspect the colour balance in wedding photos.

Nothing if you get the latest tech, which this is not. Every technology has a trade-off.

        From a gaming perspective:

TN - mild colour/gamma inconsistency from the top of the screen to the bottom, and the viewing angle will noticeably suck if you're slumped in your chair

IPS - powdered trailing and IPS glow/poor dark scene performance due to how the technology delivers colour uniformity (note that IPS glow is distinct from backlight bleed, which affects any screen with a panel and a backlight)

VA - slower black and near-black transitions, resulting in dark trails in high-motion, high-contrast content involving the use of black and near-black colours

So TN is king for gaming as you go higher and higher with your refresh rate (assuming that panel is properly tuned). There are ways of somewhat mitigating the drawbacks of VA and IPS as you go up (hence recent 240Hz efforts), but they tend to come at the expense of contrast. Samsung have done some impressive work on their G7 and G9 VA models that are about to be released, though those are 1440p 240Hz, but should come in at around $700-$750 after pre-order.

        • +1

Would rather a 144hz ips over anything for gaming and general use

          • +3

            @WinBargain: Thanks for your opinion

Seen this monitor in a few gaming cafe and nothing wrong with it at all

          • @WinBargain: Opposite for me, not a fan of IPS Glow and would rather have dark trails of VA.

        • what about nano-ips? :o

          • @Aarent: That's still just IPS: the nano part refers to a coating on the backlight which improves colour gamut, but currently the red part of the spectrum is so slow in decay as a result of this process that it horribly smudges any backlight strobing if you plan to use such a feature (hence why LG doesn't offer it on their current nanoIPS models).

That red phosphor issue may be cleaned up over time, but again it's still IPS and still has IPS glow, powdery trailing and horrible black and near black reproduction. The light bleed is directly as a result of attempting to deliver even colour reproduction across the panel.

    • Your eyes must be a new level of special

    • They sell these by saying it has 1ms response times. This is bullshit measured grey to grey with ridiculous pixel overdrive.

OOS due to a guy who ordered 9 monitors in just one go. LoL

    • +6

      Broden lives

    • +5

the guy obviously wants the 9 monitor setup

    • should be 1 per customer. That's so dumb how 1 person just ordered the whole stock basically….

  • Looks like the monitor is out of stock. They sometimes replenish stock so keep an eye out if you’re after one

  • Is the jump from 144Hz to 240Hz as noticeable as 60Hz to 144Hz?

    • Nope. It's a little bit smoother, but much less noticeable to the eye.

    • +2

      Unique question

      • +1

Not if you're a gamer. I game on 240Hz and can't go back to 144Hz!

        • Not sure I could go from 1440p to 1080p though..

          • @elli0t: I went from 1440p144hz w 2070 Super to 1080p144hz w 1650 Super and got $1200 difference from selling my used PC and monitor.

            Completely worth it for me.

          • @elli0t: I’d rather 240/1080 than 144/1440 on a 25inch screen.

    • Not as noticeable, but think of the percentage increase as well. 60 to 144 is more than double. 144 to 240 is less than double.

Personally, I do notice 120 to 180fps (common fps I can actually achieve on max graphical settings in modern games) but I am happy to play on either. In contrast, 60fps is unplayable for me in first person shooters, and the majority of third person games.

If you're choosing between 1440p 144hz and 1080p 240hz, I'd recommend the former, aside from the most competitive PvP games.

  • +1

No it’s only a small jump if your graphics card is up to the task

    • for competitive games the requirements are extremely low, i was CPU bound in both dota and csgo with just a 750ti

  • +2

Damn good deal! I just bought the lg gl850 but this a good monitor have used it at various internet gaming cafes. Even though it’s TN it’s a good one and the refresh rate is crazy however for me I prefer having a 1440p monitor as now I can’t go back to 1080 but on a 25 inch screen I think 1080 is perfectly useable. For those on the fence if you have an exisiting 1080 that’s not high refresh rate and we’re thinking of getting one go for it. Only monitor downside is TN vs IPS but at this price it’s super competitive even against some of the cheaper 144hz AOC

  • +1

How's the mouse? It looks a little like the g9x.

    • Shape does. Looks so cheap though. Couldn't even braid the cable.

    • Rebranded G9X, but the driver/software is not good as logitech

    • Be very careful. I have the keyboard of the same series and the macro buttons (side buttons) interrupt all other inputs.

So do your research before buying if this is a deal breaker for you. I seem to recall someone saying the buttons override mouse movement if programmed to anything other than default, which just seems ludicrously short-sighted.

  • thought about this but 25 is too small these days.

    • +1

not really, 24 is average…27 is too big especially for gaming

      • i think its better to game on bigger tv's, not pc gaming though.

        • And this monitor is aimed towards pc gamers

  • wtf out of stock instantly. Like within the first 2 hours

  • +1

Is there a discord for ozbargain? I feel like there should be one. I would be down to join

    • Remember there was a gaming deal/freebie back in the day with 500 or so votes. When I logged in to play a match bunch of people had OzB clantag 😂

  • Restocked at a higher price

  • +4

F**k that guy who ordered nine.

    • Damn yeah just saw.

    • +1

probably some idiot trying to resell

  • I use this monitor for gaming (240fps on Fortnite), absolutely amazing monitor. I went from PS4 to a high end gaming PC and I couldn't imagine going back now.

    • -1

you can plug the ps4 into the monitor

      • +1

        and still get 30 fps

        • thats 15 frames per eyeball
