While tempting I can't afford to be out of pocket that kind of money while I try sell my old one.
If you miss out, don't stress. Switches shortages are slowly starting recover. It's also not a limited edition, at least in Japan. Nintendo has another switch in the pipeline so should be pumped out til at least then.

    https://animalcrossingworld.com/2020/02/special-edition-anim…

    • Of course it is a limited edition. The only Switch consoles that aren't limited are the Grey and Neon. Every other Switch console is limited.

    • +3

      Its Special Edition not limited.
Demand was high that is why its on its third run in some Asian countries and AUS/NZ have now got a second run.

      • Yep already sold more copies than expected to do during the games whole life cycle.

  • +3

I may or may not have just impulse pre-ordered a switch

    • -2

And you may or may not be able to sell it for some easy cash ;)

      • Feels like there's a lot of these being released, you still think people will pay that much for them?

        • it will be worth at least the regular model. Seems like opportunity cost is the only real cost.

        • Nintendo have said numbers should start to recover soon.
Problem is parts are made in multiple countries and there is a shortage being caused by this due to COVID
they have been quite upfront and said numbers will trickle in for a few months and by Aug/Sep numbers should improve

So if you decided to flip this or your old console July would be the best time to do it.

  • I was waiting for the new model of switch, damn this game and the special edition. I prefer to play games on NDS….

JB is smart… dropping it on their website unanncouned around midnight.

Same thing happened with the FFVII remake 1st Class Edition.
Eveyone was on social media for EB etc asking.. when is it being launched and i was reloading JB's site, boom it appeared and then it was gone (they had like 10 units accoridng to lady i spoke to later when i was following up my order)
EB games announced they were going to do the switch sale on twitter and Facebook
    Gamesmen did also

JB was just like lets just casually put it up in the middle of the night lol

    • +3

Worked out for us ozbargainers that stay up late, thanks JB!

  • +1

think I got the last one. Cheers

    • nice work

  • Order cancelled in my email for some reason??

    • Website maybe could not keep up with orders and yours was placed after they sold out?

      • some bogus security thing

        • That sucks !
the website is OOS now :(
Maybe target or Big W will have it soon

  • I missed out… hope JB restock so I can get one in store paying RRP anyway.

    • there might be some people from the list that would be willing to sell one of theirs …

  • It's in my cart, but now i can't pay as they removed the item from website. noooooooo :(

    • awwwww 😭😭😭😭

    • wow they have too …

surprised they have done so with orders still pending coz its a pre order

  • Time for those who missed out to watch Target and Big W and Amazon

    100% Amazon will get stock
Target and Big W should for sure.

      • LOL i did not even know they had done pre orders today

      • +1

        site:target.com.au/p/limited-edition-nintendo-switch-animal-crossing-new-horizons-special-edition-console/63595512 = Jan 21, 2020 LOL 😂😂😂

      • I’m pretty sure that’s leftover from the original release

    • not sure if Amazon will have aussie stock though.

the only version listed there right now is JP PAL going for $1,100 lol.

      • +1

yeah i saw that … was like LOL!!!

Nah they will get some Aussie Stock.
If Eb, JB, Target and Gamesmen have all got an allocation Amazon will.

        Thankfully i got mine :)
Good luck to those still hunting though

  • My order confirmed at 12:54 AM. As of 1:12 AM no cancellation email yet, fingers crossed.

    Thanks OP.

    • 😁😁😁

  • +1

Order confirmed at 1:02am. Thank GODDDDD

  • I miss the days when we could TRS this…

    • +1

Brace yourself… TRS changes coming apparently.

Government is looking at savings, word is if you have an Aus passport TRS will not be available anymore
(if they proceed with the planned change and get it through parliament)
I was listening to the Money program on radio the other night and they were talking about it

  • Not a switch fan but bought this for a good friend who was upset she missed out on the other sales.. If she doesn't buy it off me I'll probably let it go at cost (twice shipped)

    • i'll take it if she doesn't - I think my order got cancelled haha. Also Syd based.

  • honestly, the one time I go to bed early…

  • I was charged at 12AM but have an identical transaction at 4AM too. Anyone else? A bit strange.

  • Devastated, I missed out again! Fingers crossed someone restocks today

  • My wife asked me the other day what is with this switch. I'm massive on the ps4 so don't know much about it - I just said to her that the hardware is inferior and looks like it's for young kids. I honestly don't know if correct and keen to hear thoughts. It must be decent if it's selling out so quick - I didn't realise many people bought these things. So what's the deal? Does it have good couch multiplayer or something? Cos compared to PS4 it is very expensive.

    • +1

It’s more like a console for whole family, especially kids and casual gamers.

    • +4

      Zelda breathe of the wild
      Mario Kart
      Mario odyssey
      animal crossing
      Super smash brothers
      Super Mario maker
      Luigi's Mansion

That is the tip of a very large iceberg why the switch is awesome.

      • +1

I bought mine for BOTW alone. Worth it. Best game available on current gen consoles by a mile (if you like open world RPGs as much as I do).

I enjoy quoting TFlops as much as anyone but if you can't use them to create a better gaming experience then they are just numbers - and Nintendo has historically specialised in maximizing the fun-to-TFlop ratio.

    • Each to their own, but Switch didn't do it for me. Played Zelda BOTW as well and found it super repetitive and boring. Honestly didn't understand what all the praise and hype was about.

    • Thanks people. Does it have couch multiplayer and 4 players on screen? Honestly that's been the worst thing about the internet and PlayStation - everything is now based around online gaming. I had so much fun in the old days with my mates and family playing.

      • +2

Yes it does, plenty of games that support local multiplayer which makes it pretty fun with the family. Plenty of games that you can play co-op with the missus too even if she isn't a huge gamer.
Personal favourites so far have been Luigi's Mansion 3, and Overcooked 2 so far for co-op :)
Just double check that the games you buy support it as some games are still online only unfortunately

  • wow ffs they put this up at midnight??

  • +1

    To go with your purchase..
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Controller-Gear-Authentic-Official…

premium matte grip finish. Not bad for under 28k

    • They can't be serious can they? :/

      • I can't actually imagine what on earth that's all about.

  • the same people who stockpiled toliet paper are pre-ordering these and listing on gumtree/ebay with crazy markups.
they're creating artifical demand by preventing buying from people who actually want one

i just brought a mario console bundle & game from gumtree for 400. theres still some bargins around if you look & are lucky

    • But is this the Animal Crossing version with the really nice looking joy-cons?
I think that's what's making this particular model soar.

      • Yeah wife bought it because of the same reason. I bought my switch during amazon prime time for about 350, good old times.

    • Where did you bring it from?

  • +1

bloody scalpers are selling it on gumtree for like $1000

    • +2

"trying" $1k was the price before every store got more stock

      • +1

No way they could sell it at 1k at this point

  • Can’t believe I was waiting around for JB to stock and it came up at bloody midnight!

    • Had a thought about this but didn't stay up.

  • Why people are going craZy for this model??

    • It's cute as a button and Animal Crossing is huge. Plus $$$

    • scalping

    • Its the demand, popularity and rarity.

It's like people going crazy over Air Jordans or Yeezys, Limited Edition KAWs clothing from Uniqo or Supreme clothing.

We live in materialist world unfortunately.

  • +1

Ugh why do they have to do midnight preorders without any warning? Lame!

  • +1

Still holding out hope for Amazon or big w 🤞🏼

  • +1

eBay sold history shows that these don't sell compared to how many is listed.. just the usual resellers relisting as they remain unsold.

    These aren't worth even $800.

prices have definitely taken a dive. $699-$700 for the current pre order batch. The previous batch sold for over $1k early June.

      • A few units sold for over 1k. But hardly any compared to what was listed.

Definately not a guaranteed investment if reselling.

        • +3

it's easily a low risk low return investment though. even used regular switches hold their value. I'd say you can at least make a $100 on a brand new sealed AC edition switch. Wait for the listing flurry to end, you could still sell it for $600.

        • +5

might not be the popular consensus, but i listed mine on ebay.com (not au) for a buy it now price of $650usd (~$950aud) + delivery with an option to make an offer just to see if I get lucky and I did. Some guy from illinois US just hit the buy it now on a pre-order listing.

          • @plentifoo: damn hey … nice work.
how much is postage to the US ?

            • +1

@CereaL: i put it down for $30usd. But i'm guessing it'll cost more with proper packaging, but i'm happy to wear the cost.

              • @plentifoo: curious, how did you manage to ship this internationally? does eBay manage the shipping for international? ive heard that eBay US asks sellers to ship to an eBay international centre or whatever, and then they ship it out for the seller. if that isn't the case, which courier did you use?

                • @skido: i'll be shipping it via auspost or packsend when i take delivery of the item next week. the ebay international shipping program isn't available for my location here in Perth, neither is sendle which seems integrated into the ebay delivery system. ebay allows you to select from a list of known delivery services or 'other' and then submit the tracking number for it.

          • @plentifoo: Thanks for sharing , was curious myself if anyone was going to pay that much.

You need to make money in these times,so no shame in it.

          • @plentifoo: Better keep your eyes open for the INAD claim..

            • @TeamSAXON: I actually researched the buyer. Public facebook profile, huge animal crossing fan with plenty of posts, so imncertain she's legitimate, whether or not she chooses to act ethically, I guess time will tell.

      • I saw a lot of Chinese resellers are getting the Limited switch from Korean. Seems like Korean did not like to play Japanese games( long long story). This makes Chinese market the limited edition only cost like $620AUD. If someone wants to get, I recommend you to have a try at Korean retailers

For anybody that is still looking, call up your local JB store to put in a pre-order with $50 deposit. Most stores are getting around 4-5 consoles in and not many people know about it yet so there's a good chance your local will have it available (my local didn't even know it was a thing). My friend managed to secure the last one at our local so good luck :)

    • No luck with my local JB, they just said "we've received no direction and we don't think we'll be getting any in store" so YMMV by the looks. I'll keep holding out for Amazon, Target and BigW for now!

      • Yeah it’s 100% online only for JB.
girl at work contacted their head office and was told they had limited stock so will Not be allocating any to stores.

        • +3

Weird, seems there is inconsistent information across JB stores as this one had these posters up https://imgur.com/a/F3IpDcN and a friend in Perth also managed to put a deposit for one down as well.

    • +1

Able to preorder one from my local store as well. Thanks

    • +1

Thanks, just ordered mine from Adelaide city JB HiFi but required full deposit.

  • +2

When is the console actually going to be released? Page has been removed so I can't check.

    edit: Apparently July 10th.

  • +2

For those wanting to pre order one, as the poster above said you can by going into a JB. I tried 3 stores and all said no it can’t be done until I came across one very helpful sales assistant on my 4th try who said they had to be ordered at the counter. I just secured mine. Each store is getting 3 max apparently
Brisbane here. Goodluck those wanting to get one. Full payment is required upfront!

    • so i m guessing this still works today?

      • +1

Can confirm this works! Just ordered mine from JB Hifi Maribyrnong this morning. Had to do full payment as well. Not all stores seem like they know about the AC switch preorder btw. Tried ringing a few others and staff didn't know what I was talking about..

  • +2

My husband just just ordered one from JB Hi-Fi Southland. He had to pay $50 deposit.

  • +2

Just got 1 from JB hi-fi in Prahran. The staff took a $50 deposit and option to pay in full. They mentioned they have 3 available to preorder and Bourke St have 5. Must go in store.

  • +2

Can confirm JB-HiFi Brunswick also is getting 3, 2 already ordered when I called in the morning. $50 deposit. They too had to call HQ to get the details and product code.

  • So this is my first Switch …

Anyone got recommendations of what to buy prior to arrival of it?

Do you buy cases, screen protectors, etc?

    https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/nintendo-switch/245029-bi…

    Is something like this worthwhile?

    Thanks!

    • +1

      Micro SD card

Screen protector would be worthwhile too I think.

      • so that pack wouldn't be worth it ?

        • I think ideally you want a glass screen protector, can't tell if the one in the kit is glass or plastic. Not sure what the quality is like but there are a few highly rated cases on amazon. Never used one though so can't recommend any sorry, definitely get a micro SD I'd you want to download games etc.

  • Looks like from Sunday midday in store pre order has been closed from the store system. Correct me if I was wrong.
