      • is it better than Kindle?

        • Kobo has better blue light for night time reading

          • @fossilgem: the Kobo can connect Amazon account too?

            • @G21: As far as i know it doesn’t. But i haven't googled much.

            • @G21: No…not without using PC software to transfer books from Amazon account to Kobo device.

  • I know 8GB is heaps space but I wish it was having a SD card slot like my kobo GLO

Been waiting for this. Grabbed one. Thanks OP!

  • Been wanting buy an e-reader for a while now. Is it easier/cheaper to get books on Kobo?

I've heard the Kobo store isn't as good as the Kindle

You can get library books with kobo

      • Overdrive for eBooks - This is a reason I'm considering to get one in addition to my Paperwhite.

        • Lighting overall is better on the Paperwhite.
(from Amazon "Kindle Paperwhite – Waterproof, battery lasts weeks, access to over 5 million titles (8GB))"

I prefer Kobo to Kindle (have used kobo for years). If you use calibre, you can get books from Amazon, and then convert them to epub format and send to your ereader. Amazon has made it a bit more difficult to strip the drm & convert their ebooks, but if you have the right plugin's, and use an older Kindle app to download the book, you can still do it. Means you can buy from whereever is cheapest and still read on kobo.
I only ever open Kobo or Kindle apps to download, and then transfer books to my calibre library. Lets me sort/categorise them as I want, or even change the default formatting.
Only issue I have with Kobo is that every one I've bought has failed purely because the connector has come loose and I've been unable to charge. But to be clear, that's usually after a few years of daily use. I've bought them in January 2012, August 2014, and Feb 2018. Still using the 2018 Aura 2nd edition one.

Awesome, thanks! A massive upgrade from my kindle 3 - which I'll still hang on to for dealing with drm if I need to.

  • Is there any type of back lighting for reading at night?

    • +1

Yes mate, similar to Kindle Paperwhite. But also changes to night tones to assist eyes with blue-light exposure in the evening
