Breville The Smart Grinder Pro $199 ($170 via PayPal Gift Cards) + Delivery @ Catch via Bing Lee

170

If you use the Catch of the Day Giftcards (15% off) you can get this grinder for $170 + Delivery!

Get the giftcards at: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/546839

Unfortunately, you can't use the UniDays student discount as this is a "marketplace' item.

Not the lowest it's been but I don't imagine the price will drop anytime soon due to everyone WFH and making their own coffee.

I've been sitting on the sidelines looking at one of these grinders paired with a Breville Dual Boiler for a month, keep seeing the deals for these grinders down to $199, but nothing on the Dual Boiler and now The Good Guys and Bing Lee etc. are all showing "Not Available/Out of Stock" for The Dual Boiler machine… anyone know if they will be getting more stock?
I'd hate to pull the trigger on a grinder and then only be able to purchase the machine as a combo.

Possible it is completely end of life for the standalone Dual Boiler in favor of the new "Dynamic Duo" for a big markup?

I think the demand has just gone through the roof - everyone is at home, everyone wants to make coffee and save etc. People know moving forward they will be at home more and wanting coffee.

      • Yeah, I think that is it.
The worrying about whether they are now "end of life" is that they're not even accepting ANY orders, like for back orders or showing ETA of stock etc. Just "Breville the Dual Boiler Espresso Machine is no longer available online or in store."

I’m not sure why but this seems to happen a lot with the duel boiler where stock levels dry up and appear to be at their end of life. But then after a few months stock levels rise again and then the sales follow. Think it just depends how long you’re willing to wait.

      • Perfect! Thank you so much for replying. Good to know, i'll stay patient.

Hey mate, just want to direct you to this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/547003 , I got a bit worried I had given you the wrong advice as according to the OP the GG claimed the BES920 was discontinued but another person (smokey68) commented
"I called Breville a week ago about the BES920 Dual Boiler as VIC retailers had either run out of stock or stopped selling the individual unit. Breville said as far as they could see it wasn't discontinued in their system and their next shipment of units was due in August from China."

Hopefully that information is correct and you'll see stock levels rise in August.

          • @donkcat: Really really appreciate sharing the info here. Awesome community spirit.

I actually got a reply back from Breville just yesterday (Friday) afternoon, to which a Breville AUS sales rep confirmed:

“ BES920BSS - this model has no grinder - more stock due end of August

BEP920bss - this one comes in a package with a grinder - more stock due end of July”

So it’s REALLY confusing that TGG are saying “Discontinued” and selling their displays… maybe they will only be selling it online with shipping?

I even went back with a follow up about retailer stock, to which I got:

“ When the new stock arrives, it usually goes out to our retail partners, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Bing Lee etc first, then the remaining stock is available to sell to other customers.”

(Sell to other customers, perhaps direct from Breville)

@RAYMOZ: No worries at all, glad you got in touch with them.
It's very similar to what happened to me about the same time last year, I procrastinated way too long and when I finally decided I would get the 920 on the next decent sale stock dwindled. I was waiting for TGG ebay store to have 20% off but it disappeared from their ebay page, then weeks later went out of stock on their own site. I had read that people had the same experience in the past and just to wait and it would come back into stock. Sure enough it might have been 2 months later but it come back into stock at the usual retailers. A little while later they finally had 20% off TGG ebay page and I got it for $800, about 1 month later it went down to $680 from another 20% off TGG deal lol, oh well can't win them all.

IMO it's worth getting from TGG and adding the 5 year concierge service which cost me $150, handy given the unit has a high failure rate after 2 years from what I've read. The concierge gives you 3 $20 credits a year which is handy for purchasing the filters, cleaning tablets etc.

                @donkcat: Awesome insight.

But damnnn not looking forward to waiting another 2 months. But I guess that’ll give enough time for the tax return to arrive and get setup with accessories etc.

One awesome site I’ve found for looking after the BES920, although I will definitely be getting a form of repair/replacement warranty added on. This is for minor fixes or improvements.

                https://www.home-barista.com/espresso-machines/breville-dual…

There are tonnes of pages of goodness on there.

                • @RAYMOZ: Thanks mate, I hadn't seen that site, looks likes a great resource.
Hope you get your BES920 soon

    • Harvey norman maribyrnong had 3 left when i purchased on Friday. $999 and they were happy to knock $50 off. They had the DB as a clearance item so not sure what's happening with it later on. Good luck!

    Fantastic grinder. Also paid $199.

Good entry level burr grinder. packs above its weight. I'd recommend it as a minimum level to anyone regardless of their brewing method/equipment.

  • Is the hopper particularly air tight? For home use, are people storing multiple days worth of beans in the hopper, or just putting beans in on-demand?

    • +1

Can't comment on the hopper, sorry.

The "pros" appear to dose on-demand. So keeping in an airtight container, Fellow does a bean container with a built-in pump.

      https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/fellow-atmos-coffe…

    • It's more or less air tight, you could store beans in the hopper. It's not completely dark though, it's tinted plastic. Ideally beans should be stored in darkness.

I use mine on-demand and put 22 grams of beans in the hopper and grind it all. I don't trust the grinder to give me the exact amount with its own dose control, and I prefer not to leave beans in there. But it probably doesn't matter either way.

    • I assumed it wasn’t air tight, manual says to only keep beans in there that you’re about to use, so I empty hopper into a small airtight plastic container that fits underneath it. It does also have about 1/2 -1 cup worth of beans that are between the hopper and the burrs. I don’t worry about emptying that, but for my first coffee of the day just discard about 2 seconds of grinds before I grind a dose.

    • thanks for the replies everone!

  • Probably no chance of a ~$150 deal again anytime soon right?

    • With the demand and limited stock, i highly doubt it

  • Gift cards sold out. Just saw this but I missed out, damn it.

Anyone know of another way to get one of these at a price closer to $150 than $199?

Need something decent to go with my nicely priced Breville Bambino Plus deal…

    • Glad this offer was restored. Just ordered one of these via this catch gift card deal. Thanks OP

  • just grabbed one too.
    CoTD still has stock
