Bosch 10kg Front Load Washer WAU28490AU $988 at The Good Guys

250

Hey guys

I've edited this, the Bundaberg store informed me that the catalogue that came out at 3pm today lists it for $988

Bosch 10kg Front Load Washer WAU28490AU

RRP $1999 at Bosch
$1099 at Harvey Norman and Bing Lee
$1230 at appliances online
This is $1018 on the good guys commercial store but i had discounted gift cards to use

Remember 2.5% cash rewards / shopback to get $1077 or 5% discounted gift cards to get it to $1043

This seems like a very good price for an overwhelmingly well reviewed washing machine, I wanted the electrolux but there is not stock until september.
This is actually cheaper than the 8kg and 9kg models at the good guys
Note this is not the german made model WAW28440AU

  • how do you access GG commercial?

  • Been lookin at the german made ones. Is it worth the extra dosh?

Also might be worth mentioning appliances online will match with delivery fee extra. Their delivery they take away old appliance if required too. Idk if good guys still do.

yes, and get the idos model, its pretty cool, just put the whole container of detergent in, it weighs it and uses the correct amount over the next month or so. over the life of the washer, (which should be at least 10 years+ for the German made model) should only cost 10-20 bux a year… if you over dose it could potentially even save you that much.

regardless, the german made model should last many years over the china/indian model, (they use better components in it) so it should basically pay for itself in the long run.

      • Looks like the i-dos models are around $1500.
Where have you read they use better components out of curiosity?

        • I have heard they use the same components but the German model undergoes better testing, where as they just pump them out the door at China. I don't know where the truth lies but I'm waiting for a German model. Not the i-Dos though, sounds cool but the extra feature doesn't justify the premium for me.

        • to be honest it was the sales person that told me that.

Waiting for WAW in any size

    • 9kg WAW is about $1100 on commercial store.

Why are you holding out for WAW apart from made in germany?

      • Could you link to this please? Comments are making me want the German made simply for Quality.

        • I don't believe i can link the commercial store, see the first comment for instructions regarding access.

          • @teacherer: No probs. Is the model number the same apart from WAW? Not getting much from a google search.

@RDY4ME: It's at the bottom of the post
              WAW28440AU

  • Can't comment on this machine, but last month for the first time in my life I got a Bosch. It's actually a WTW87566AU 9kg Series 8 Heat Pump Dryer. Holy demon. Why hadn't I ever purchased Bosch before. So good.

    • +1

      That's a very nice dryer!

    • What was the clincher for you to go that one over the WTW87564AU?

      • +1

        @rooon

I probably should have investigated that model a little more. They did start sounding very, very similar but I went for the 66 over the 64 because I was always (since I was a kid) paranoid about dryer running costs. I remember my father telling me about it like it was $200 an hour to run.. haha.. When I saw 8 star Vs. 9 star. I bit the bullet on the 9 star..couldn't believe after calculating based on my electricity costs it was like 47 cents per cycle! Wow!

Got it from Appliances Online and it was $1688 delivered. Even opted for AfterPay was just $422 a fortnight I put aside for 4 fortnights.

Realise I can get a $199 dryer or whatever from Aldi. I'll pay more in running costs. Did the calculations. Over the years would I save money? Probably not but it might be same kind of money for outlay + running costs. But this way you get a quality machine, no heat in the room, quiet as, no outside exhaust, more program options etc etc :)

        • @seamonkey, did you get it installed/mounted or get the tray thing?

been looking at the 9*. We only need a dryer during the winter months though. or so we think.

will need to place on top of the washing machine and get the mount or the tray thing.

          • @the4thzodiac: @the4thzodiac
A work in progress. Plan to get that official tray thingie. At this moment the washing machine and dryer sitting next to each other on the floor although the washing machine is sitting on a washing machine pedestal.

Yeah. I thought the same re just winter months (Victoria) but I can't see me ever hanging washing again now hahaha.

Know that the issues people speak of with heat pump is real (can feel damp the clothes after done) but 15 minutes sitting in the basket - all is good. Generally.

What you are doing, placing the dryer on top is definately the right thing to do. I want it 100% like that - just another thing on my to do list. Let me know if you want more. Happy to send vids or whatever if it'll ever help as I didn't see much online for that model. It's a lot quieter than I expected.

            • @seamonkey: @seamonkey thanks.

Is it damp even with the driest cycle, the cupboard mode or something? Some have mentioned going for a second shorter cycle once the first is done.

Good to hear that it is quiet! Have you managed to track / estimate electricity usage for the dryer?

              • +1

                @the4thzodiac: @the4thzodiac no worries
Dampness. Usually it's absolutely fine. I'm likely the problem as I sometimes throw so much in that the metal sides of the appliance almost buckle :)
I think keeping it down to an acceptable load size is key. I think also I get a little ambitious as the washing machine is 11kg so I'm trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. I definately over pack.

I read somewhere the decibels on it were equivalent to a normal conversation volume. Close the door and you'll barely hear it.

I do that quick 2nd cycle sometimes. Key is a timed program. Even if it's just another 20 mins. Works well.

In terms of energy cost. Nothing exact. Though I did use exact figures. Plugged in what I pay per kWh and the actual machine, 47 cents for a standard cycle. That is bananas.

Haven't had a dryer in years. Recently got an electricity bill and no evidence we have even had it on despite using it plenty of times. Happy to help further if you think of any other questions. Still haven't hooked up the hose to drain. Process of it going into drawer chamber is absolutely fine at the moment. No doubt I'll get sick of that one day. Cheers

$979 with free delivery at E&S.

Not German model . Made in China if that matter.

    • metro only i believe?

      • Price match with H&N or AO.

        • +1

In the past they've always looked at delivery but worth a shot i guess

    • +2

yes, matters heaps RE German vs China model, they put better components in the German models.

and id rate E&S no 1 appliance store by far. bought my washer, drier & dishwasher from there, each time with a fantastic price, served straight away, with great customer service.

(highly recommend E&S specially over Gerry Harvey, who caused us to have a 10% GST on imported items regardless of value.) - good guys are OK, but no where near as good as E&S. takes to long to get service there.

      • Agree, german version much better. Just holding out for a 20% eBay deal :)

  • +2

Sorry to rain on your parade OP, but this is currently cheaper at E&S Trading for $979. They only have stores in Victoria however.

Germany v China - here's the long term view on German made:
We have a 14 year old Siemens 14.44 8kg which was a bargain (!) at $1600 at the time. It does 5-6 washes per week. /END

  • Hey OP, instead of the Elextrolux EWF1042BDWA you originally wanted https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/electrolux-10kg-front-load-wa…, have a look at the Electrolux EWF1041ZDWA https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/electrolux-10kg-…. It appears to be the same model, except the EWF1041ZDWA comes with auto dosing.

There is a huge difference between the german and chinese models. I just replaced my old german made Bosch this week after more than 20 years. The new models are soooo nice especially with idos and so quiet.

    • I should add with 5+ people it was used everyday

  • How do you tell if a model is German made or China made?

    • +2

Big german flag in the picture

    • +1

Only the series 8 models are German.
Series 6 and below are Chinese

    • +1

      WAW series are German made.

Search the model number in Appliances Online website. They list the Country of Origin in the specification.

    • WAW

  • I am looking for a good Dryer. Any good suggestions here?

  • Mmmm scratchy towels

    • Scratchy? Mine end up being so soft and absorbant

    • +1

Sounds like you need a washing machine.

      • +1

Agreed, getting the cat to scratch all the dirt off isn't a reliable means of cleaning.

  • Could someone do me an OZB favour check TGG commercial site for prices on WTW87564AU , WTW87565AU and WTW87566AU Bosch dryers?
Havent got access yet, but if deal is good enough, ill sign up :)

    • WTW87564AU $1573

      WTW87566AU $1666

        TIA

        • +1

          It's $1064 vs $1199

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Thanks. Pity my G'day rewards recently expired. I never knew until recently it could be used for TGGC

          https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/bosch-8kg-front-…

Hmmm…my top loader also just died. Cheap China or this…

          • @g452: Thanks that's the best price currently. My only issue is they can drop to 800s during an eBay 20% sale… Wait or pull the trigger….

            • @Click_It: After you said that, I did think about the wait game. Bit harder to do when my top loader died last week.

Anyway, got Good Guys to price match Applications Online and then paid for it with the gift cards from the existing Woolworths promo, so all up got the WAW28460AU for ~$950 with delivery. Am happy with that.

And by my calculations, it should outlast me.

              • @g452: Understood, it's a little difficult when you have no machine. If I could get it for $950 though, I probably would have pulled the trigger as well. I just don't want to spend over $1000.

      • If not too much to ask, can you please check current pricing on TGG commercial for following models?

        LG WV9-1409W
        Bosch WAW28440AU

Can't speak to the quality of the Chinese made models. But I've owned a German made Bosch front loader since about 2005. Had to replace the seal in it 6 months ago. The parts cost me $70 to order from Bosch, who for some reason still stock absolutely every spare part for it. Their website is a dream to use. They have diagrams that break all of the components down so you know what part numbers etc. So yeah, if this thing ever actually breaks down I'll be hunting down another German made Bosch for sure.

  • I'm all for a bargain, but I also believe we shouldn't be buying Chinese products right now.

Will wait for a special on the German models!

  • How long is the daily wash for this machine? My Samsung has 1 hour. Does the Bosch have the same?

    • I've heard the Bosch is slower than most.

  • Hey folks, my nearly 10yr old German made Bosch (6.5kg capacity) has just conked out, the door seal was exihibiting mould in the last year or so, and we've been cleaning it excessively with bicarb to try get rid of it, with no success. Finally last night, it possibly gave way and water started flowing of the door! Anyway, long story short, it's time for a new washer. Couple questions if anyone can help with would be appreciated as I'm kind of out of touch:
I've currently got a rack hung vented dryer which I intend to keep as a back-up/use for extra capacity as we do a lot of laundry and will be after a 9-10kg washer next where dryer capacity is typically 4-6kg max hence leaning currently towards a washer/combo dryer, or seeking advice if I should stay away and go for a top Bosch german made washer and just stick it out with the old school vented dryer.
    1) Is there a heat-pump dryer, washer combo on the market these days? Or are these combo machines all basically condenser dryers?
    2) I understand heat-pump dryers actually save heaps more electricity vs old school vented and condenser dryers which is attractive, but at a cost premium, but vs the modern day condenser ones, whilst no arguing with the savings in electricity, does it a LOT longer to dry?
    3) Shorlisted 1 model for the washer/combo due to capacity 10kg wash 6kg dry, assume it's a condenser dryer with 30/60/120min drying cycles which seem reasonable. It's the LG https://www.lg.com/au/washing-machines/lg-wvc9-1410w-washer-…
    4) Alternatively stick with a solid quality german made Bosch washer only where 9kg seems to be the max capacity, BOSCH WAW28420AU 9KG or pay the premium for the BOSCH WAW28620AU 9kg - is premium worthwhile? Only diff I see is the iDOS auto laundry detergent tech. Noticed there is an even more premium Bosch 9kg HomeProfessional Front Load Washing Machine WAY32891AU model - iDOS tech, but what else justifies this premium… So hard to tell as a lot of the info looks like marketing dribble.

What would you guys recommend given my situation, cause in our current setup, due to massive laundry loads we seem to be running the dryer heaps i.e. 120min cycle x2 or x3, so a combo where we could run the combo dryer plus the vented one at the same time if needed would minimise the period of time we're running the dryer(s) during the day, and with the larger capacity washer minimise the times we run the washer too so win-win.

    Thanks in advance!

    • damn that really didnt last that long…

i looked at combo machines, not worth it, they do both average. best to get them separate, basically washing capacity 9kgs drying capacity 5KGs, so you cant even properly do a full load correctly.

  • same price now @ HN as well.

Am i right in thinking anything over 9kg is not German made in Bosch? …. really need a 10kg :(
