    Chicken Vindaloo with garlic naan

    • +3

Not sure why you are getting down voted, sounds like a good combo.

      • +5

Because a cheesy garlic naan is much better.

    • +1

Beef Vindaloo with garlic naan is my favorite yum yum

  • -6

@Mods, I added my referral name in the referral thing but wonder how to make it appear under the deal like it usually does showing OP's before the "random" option

    • +3

      Deal needs +25 votes

    • +1

      lol

    • +2

No one would use it for ubereats anyway

      • +1

These deals have been posted over the last week or so. Everyone who knows about it will already have an account.

People who don't, and get linked these deals will probably use the referral from their friend who linked it.

      • +1

I think people don't realize you posted the deal.

It's there now to the left of random.

      • +1

The bots decide they don't like your comment for <insert random reason> & pile on. Don't stress. There's 8 real people (who you can see their names) who +1 you.

        • That's not how OzBargain works. You can never see who negative votes a comment, doesn't make them "bots".

          • @[Deactivated]: And yet that is how it does work.

better way to support locals is not to use uber and pick up yourself.

    • +3

      THE TRUTH IS RIGHT HERE

    • I. I admiral..

    • +6

I would if they'd offer me a 50% discount. Or maybe you would like to subsidize the cost of my meal?

      • +1

Or just order through Uber, get your 50% discount and choose the pickup option?

        • +1

Yeah, that's what I do. Saves me the delivery fee :)

        • Uber Eats has a pickup option ?

          • +4

@51ngh: It does, yes. And until 30th June, Uber doesn't even charge the restaurant at all if you choose pickup - it's free free free to them, not even paying credit card fees!

            • @[Deactivated]: This comment needed more attention, i am going to pickup my indian food tonight.

    • +2

The Uber delivery drivers are locals too!

      • +1

It’s more of Uber getting 30+ %age as commissions which technically is going away from Locals. Delivery guys are getting paid by the delivery fees anyway.

        • +3

Uber is definitely losing money on these deals though. Restaurants get paid their full cut so uber is copping the 50% off. Delivery drivers getting their cut too.

    • +2

That's what I always use to think. But had a a bad experience at my local burger joint (phat burger) a couple of weeks ago.

I went to the store on a Saturday night and ordered plenty of food for a family of five. Ended up waiting about 40 minutes for the food to be ready.

But I found it very very frustrating was how they prioritised the kitchen to prepare meals for the home delivery orders of Uber Eats/Deliveroo/Menu log. While I stood in the cold watching. I could see and hear into the front desk as they shuffled the orders around.

Part that gave it away was the people that were in the line and ordered in front of me got their food after about 10-15 minutes. They even had time to sit down, eat, relax, have chat in the time before I saw my food.

So it can be hard to feel sorry for a place like this when they treat customers like this.

      • +2

Its the same with fast food joints. Drive thru gets priority over eat in/pick up inside. I got fed up and started using drive thru too

      • Had a similar experience with Pelicana. Waited about 40 mins on two different occasions, whilst people who dined in and ordered after me for their food, finished and left. Uber orders and stuff were being churned out too whilst my order was just taking forever. By the time I got it I was starving and ended up eating it there. It's a bit crazy.

    • +1

Take care of yourself first, then worry about the locals.

50% off is 50% off, this is ozbargain not ozethics.

      • Don't worry about the ethics during this promotion. Uber is paying the restaurant based on the before promo price, so it's actually double good ethics - you're buying local and screwing a predatory multinational!

  • +6

Bollocks. Here we go with the toilet paper shortage again.

    • +8

Use a bum gun. Minimises use of TP.

      • +3

        That’s a fancy name for a bidet.

    • For a really spicy curry, put the toilet paper in the freezer =D

  • Works for me..

  • Between jacked prices and delivery charges it doesnt work out much cheaper.

    • Choose pickup then

      • Strangely some places don't offer pickup, if they did would save them uber commission

    • +5

From my experience the prices are jacked around ~10-20% so you're still getting a 30-40% discount. Also you can pick up your order for free.

      • +2

Exactly. And the delivery fee is actually included in the 50% off I've noticed

        • Are you sure delivery fee gets the 50% discount , the times I tried it didn’t.

          • +2

@lonewolf: Yes the delivery fee gets the 50% discount too.

        • +1

And the tip. I've been tipping everyone.

        • +1

Delivery fee has not been discounted for any of mine. Still worked out to a good deal though.

          • @gilbarc: Same mine never had delivery fees discounted

            • @lonewolf: Did you exceed the $20 discount limit? If you dont, it has been discounting the delivery fee for me

              • @MaccDogg: Yeah that’s what I was wondering too I should check the receipts. I don’t think I would have exceeded it every time. Do you find it only discounts on this food fest deals or always? Even with past discount codes?

                • @lonewolf: I was checking the email for the latest foodfest ubereats deal and this is what it says in relations to delivery fee.
                  "

                  "

              • @MaccDogg: Yeah, looks like that's what it was for me previously. Yesterday I made a smaller order and the delivery fee was included when halving the price.

      • My experience during this food fest is prices being jacked 30-40% but you do still get 10-20% as long as you pick up. If you get it delivered then….

        • There're several black sheeps which jacked their prices that much but majority is still 10-20%.

        • +1

30-40% jacked means you still get 30-35% off…

          e.g. 140%*50%=70%

          • @donamique: Ok let me clarify , the prices are jacked to the point that a 30-40% discount on Uber eats breaks even

            • @lonewolf: That would imply prices are being jacked 43%-67%?

              • @donamique: Ok then that’s what I came across. Still a discount to be had if you pick up as long as you don’t have to drive too far

                • @lonewolf: Yea I had a local restaurant jacking by 35% and it got to the point where it felt it wasn't that worth it

                  • @donamique: Problem is how far and parking. A couple of times it wasn’t worth the time and hassle for me as parking was terrible and I kept going in circles and another time I ended up driving around 12 minutes each way . But if it’s a couple of minutes away and easy parking then not as bad

                    • @lonewolf: yea I think their point was maybe also to get you to try places you've never been to? Bring through new customers? Sometimes paying for delivery is more worth it than the petrol/time/effort/stress.

                      • @donamique: Thats true and it worked, a couple of the places i went to, i actually liked their food and their in store price was worth going back. I would definitely be ok returning there as long as i pay in store pricing. but yeeah especially in winter, delivery is so much more convenient.

            • -2

@lonewolf: Mate as other pointed, ur math is way off. To render this 50% discount to be break even, a $10 need to be jacked up to $20. I’m happy to bet with u, there’s no restaurant doing that. Most extreme one probably jack it by 30-40%, to offset Uber commission. The discount is applied after, means $10 that they jacked to $14, will come as $7. How does that break even?

              • @hanofee: Mate like I said I clarified what my comment was and I know what I got charged as I checked the prices in store as opposed to what I got charged by ubereats. One restaurant I went to in store was $11.40 for the mains I ordered and it was 18.99 on ubereats. And where did I say break even. I said you end up getting 10-20% discount. But if you do delivery then that offsets that but if you do pick up then worthwhile as long as it’s not too far and parking isn’t terrible.

      • the prices are jacked around ~10-20%

And the quantity is reduced by 10%-20%

      • I'd say more like 20% to 30% more with ubereats. Still a good deal though

    • No jacked up prices in my area.

  • +4

I am a big fan of chicken curries, paneer pakora and garlic naan, mmmm. Thanks OP

  • +1

Is there a way to check what restaurants are participating before tomorrow?

    • +8

That would be a good customer experience which is not what uber is about

  • +2

Cannot tell if meat is fresh or not with spicy sauce.

    • +6

It's not that difficult, you can tell by how many times you need to visit the toilet after eating it

      • That's a terrible metric as spice intolerance will see you pooping plenty as well.

Uber pushes you to tip the restaurant while making 25%-40% of the order value. What have uber done to help restaurants in this situation, any restaurant owners here ?

    • +1

Well uber is losing money on these deals…Not saying they're good guys but not really applicable here.

    • +2

Disgusting Americanised culture at work here.

Some businesses effectively pay people slave wages in the US.

Sad that the Multi billion dollar Uber have to shove the tipping option in our faces instead of paying their workers more.

They already don't pay annual leave or sick leave do they? If not, surely those savings are enough to cover a fairer wage

    • +1

What have uber done to help restaurants in this situation

Uber are not charging commission for pick up orders during June, supposedly, and giving 50% discount that they are covering.

      • Not supposedly. They haven't charged for pickup orders since March, and I confirmed with my local cafe during Modern Australian day that they didn't even know there was a promo (they got paid full price) and because I picked up they paid no commission.

        • Really then I don’t get the price jacking? Can’t it then be normal pricing if Uber doesn’t take a commission?

          • @lonewolf: Because Uber provides no way to charge different prices for pickup vs delivery, most customers still order delivery, and Uber offers no way to turn off delivery (only pickup).

In case you're wondering how much Naan to get:

    https://youtu.be/feJlRDLX0iQ?t=40

    • Im gettin 4 naan, Im in the big league now

  • I have added promotion but I see "Currently unavailable. Your order isn't eligible for these yet"

Are you able to use this promotion on any Indian restaurant?

    • It's cause the restaurants are closed. They'll be open tomorrow. Just click the link at the top of the app, all the ones you see are 50% off once you put in the code.

  • Great deal
    How to check participating restaurants?

    • +1

The banner may not appear in your app until midday or so. But yes, on some days Uber doesn't select any restaurants in your area for the promo. They don't choose to participate, Uber selects them.

  • I Think Biryani and Samosa is on the menu ronight.

  • Not one single participating Indian restaurant in my area. So far I've had one Italian restaurant and that's it.

    • If you're willing to travel further ro pick up, change your address and check out other areas

  • Does anyone know how many days Uber is having these 50% off promos? Is it 2 weeks or more?

    • +2

13 days. This is day 10.

  • +3

I support my local Indian by using taxi rather than Uber

    • +1

      lol

  • Anyone know if you're able to redeem the code more than once throughout the day?

Thinking of having Indian for both lunch and dinner…

    • +2

Nope, my discount disappeared after my first order

  • +4

Gotta love price jacking. $21 for butter chicken and $9 for rice (before discount )at the local Indian restaurant near me. Was $12.99 and $3 before today 😂

    • +1

Wow! My local stores (North Lakes) haven’t jacked their prices

    • +1

There are some people who don’t believe that price jacking happens or to the level it does.
