KEB at your service again.

If y'all are looking for whetstones to keep your slick knives sharp, here is a decent price but only while it lasts.

The King branded whetstone is what I would recommend as the most affordable japanese brand of whetstones (Global whetstones are rebranded King whetstones).
There are more expensive and better performing ones, but these are a great starting point. I have my personal favorite so far, you can PM me if you want to know what. Feel free to ask me questions if you're too lazy to do your own research.

1000 Grit to maintain your edge
6000 Grit for high polish
10-20 mins every few months depending on; how worn out your knives get, how soft the steel is, how you treat them

Quite a few other online retailers are selling for around this price, but this is the only place I could find that still has stock.

Original Coupon Deal APPONLY10 for $10 less if you are eligible.

Wait a minute, aren't you nairdajun doubled?

Yes, I changed my username so it would check out ;)

This is the highest price it has ever been on Amazon (since 2018) according to CamelCamelCamel

Demand must be through the roof due to all the recent knife deals

    • Price has indeed risen, not sure if it is also due to CoVid.
First time I bought this stone I think I paid around $50, but that was about 5 years ago.

I don't understand these kind of posts. Clearly not a bargain.

    Way over price.

    • May I ask what you might be comparing it to?

      • +8

By your own words it's $18 more expensive then it used to be. So it's like an anti-bargain.

        • Thanks for your feedback, I believe this price is now the new "low".
Other sellers seem to be selling higher and the price from 5 years ago probably is never going to come back.
Edit: Correction the stone I bought 5 years ago was a 1000/3000, so I guess I'm not comparing apples to apples.

        • Thank goodness for time machines.

Just bought a Daiso one for $2.80 and it does its job well :)

My suggestion will probably get negged by a few purists on here but for 9 out of 10 people the Global Minosharp will be a much better option. I used a whetstone for years on my two Shun knives and thought I was pretty average at it (despite watching many videos). I switched to the Minosharp and on my first go it blew away all previous attempts over 10 years with a whetstone. People say the sharpening wheels will ruin your knives but I have two Damascus steel Shun Classics and the Minosharp only sharpens the edge and doesn't scratch the rest of the blade. Don't waste your time with this.

Thanks for that. I use the minosharp with my Global knives and think I am a heathen based on some of the knife posts here.

With the frequency you need to sharpen a Global knife, it probably makes sense to make the process as quick and easy as possible.

      • Totally. I now sharpen my knives once a week as it's so easy so they are always really sharp. With the whetstone it was probably once per month. So not only did it not sharpen it as much but they were also duller for longer.

        • Mate, you shouldn't need to sharpen that regularly. Try honing with a rod or strop every other time you use them and should keep the edge much longer if you're not being silly with your knives.

      • +1

If you do learn to sharpen it properly, you won't change the profile of your blade. 10 stroke strop should be good weekly to fortnightly maintenance.

I have photos of how the wheel ruins your knife if you want to see it.

The wheels arent brilliant. Convenient, but not great long term

        • I tend to agree.

    • Which minosharp you are using? Is the 3 wheels worth it over the 2 wheels?

      • +1

I got the 2 wheeler. Does the job and I would assume would for most peopoe. The 3 wheeler was a deal of the day last week or something

All you guys that negged, where can I get this cheaper right now? Looking to buy, thanks.
