    This is HUGELY overpriced.

    https://www.theverge.com/21262694/lenovo-chromebook-duet-rev…

It costs $299.00 US, which should be around $430ish here. It should not be that much more expensive in price due to the US to AUD fairies.

Yes slightly more is understandable… but not that much.

Being ARM based, I would've expected a Snapdragon 8CX or similar at this price

    • +2

Agreed. I would’ve expected a $499 RRP with discounting early on. Looks like this isn’t such a steal of a deal as some reviewers made it out to be due to the Aussie tax. Glad I got my c340-11 for under $250.

      • "jace88" I missed out on that deal and been checking the prices since. Price now won't go below $467.

    • In what world would $299 in the US equate to $430 here?
At today's exchange rate 299 USD is over $440 (AUD). So you are expecting Australia to be cheaper than US?
Add 10% GST and that's already over $480

Given that iPhone RRPs in Australia vs US have been around 1.75 times, a more reasonable expectation would be around $520 for this.

        I said:

"Yes slightly more is understandable… but not that much."

Just under $500.00 would also be understandable, but it is $100 MORE than that FOR NO REASON. The clock isn't a reason, If I'm shopping for a car I don't need a king sized bed thrown in to sweeten the deal.

I'm not trying to help the seller get more market share, I'm trying to buy the exact same thing that the rest of the world can at a decent price.

If this is a deal for you, go ahead and buy one. No one is asking you not to.

But this is still WAY overpriced and I expect it will come down sooner rather than later.

        • +1

This is 350GBP in UK, 40,000Rupee in India.
Both more than the $5999RRP here.

The US isn't the "rest of the world"

    • Agreed. Lenovo seem to overprice here. I still like them as a company and have had 4 laptops across the years. It's the keyboards. At 299 USD it intrigues me enough to give it a go. This price, no.

I'll wait for a decent deal.

Geez, $279 in the US. For that price, ok. For this price? Meh

Review based on the US price:

    GOOD STUFF
    Ultra portable
    11-hour battery life
    Included keyboard and kickstand
    You can’t beat the price

    BAD STUFF
    Cramped keyboard and touchpad
Just one port (and it’s not a headphone jack)
Lacks the horsepower for serious multitasking

Yes hard for me to justify at this price especially after picking up the C340-11 for $299 ($399-$100 voucher) earlier on in the year. Yes they are aimed at different requirements/markets but…….

    • I actually don’t think they’re that different in markets. The duet is a tablet sure but it’s going after the more competitively priced/budget segment with some unique proposition or performance from the next tier up. Some previews even considered this to be a bit of a spiritual successor to c340 and the c330.

      • +1

HP X2 for $499 is still the target to beat. M3/8GB/64GB. May come on special again sometime.

        • Agree, there the specs I'm after for that price for my next Chromebook.

A 10" screen/keyboard combo is too small for my use, even as a mobile/portable use unit.

          • +1

@ozhunter68: I think 10" makes sense if your predominant use is as a tablet (i.e. a lot of the time you're holding it up), but if you intend to use it mostly as a laptop (even a convertible/360 style) then there are better options.

            • @jace88: Spot on. Although I have and sometimes use a tablet ( 8" ), usually prefer a laptop as I prefer to type on keyboard and find that form factor more useful for the bulk of my use.

As I have too many laptops including 2 chromebooks, my next computer will most likely be a convertible/360 style like you say. Just not sure if the screen size will be 11.6"-14" yet?

  • I waited as long as I could for this, but gave up and bought the c340. (typing on it now)

Pretty darn satisfied in the end, but seeing this Duet sold locally now is a bit irritating, even given the price difference.

[I have only one real issue with this c340; bluetooth headphones/earphones/speaker all have a hiccup when connected (all different brands). Like a fraction of a second pause every minute or so.
Irritating enough that I don't use bluetooth, only wired.Sorry to take it off topic, but anyone happen to have a fix?]

    • My older JBL bluetooth headphones don't have that issue but they do have a bit of latency when watching Youtube which annoys me greatly. I ended up just using wired headphones.

I think the C340-11 has been one of my best purchases and I love how simple it is (vs my heavy/expensive Razer Blade laptop). It is also cool enough to use on the bed despite the general advice of not using a laptop on the bed. Only issue is the keyboard is very very mushy and I know backlighting isn't essential but it would've been helpful for my use case (i.e. in bed).

  • +1

Same bonus smart clock when you get the C340-11 (N4000/64GB) for $469.

  • Super expensive in australia.

  • I don't understand that price given how much it is elsewhere in the world. Maybe that "freebie" is jacking the price up?

  • +1

Was waiting a while for this to be released here, but with the price hovering under 600, such a rip off now. All that value propoistion is gone. The cost is what made all the reviewers gave it a pass. I should of got the tab s4 while it was being cleared out a few months ago instead of waiting for such a disappointment.

  • I've also been following the Duet after chrome unboxed reviewed it a while back.
Maybe the educational pricing will be better.
As mentioned above there are a few downsides for these depending on how you use it, additionally there are problems with using higher resolution screens with them.
However I'm just looking to get one to replace my android tablet, and for that job the duet will be great.
My benchmark for Chromebook value remains the HP14 Chromebook for $139 (239 with 100 gift card). I didn't expect much from it but I actually use it more than my PC most days, and have developed an appreciation for Chromebooks generally since then.

    • I can't remember which Youtuber/review I read but they were saying they wouldn't recommend Duet if your intention is to use it primarily as an Android tablet due to some random compatibility issues. Could all go away with firmware/software updates but thought I'd mention. I feel the Duet is still an epic deal in the US, but it just sounds like there are a few areas where Lenovo cut corners in not too visible areas but present a significant issue to those who take them for granted (eg ability to connect to an external monitor at a higher resolution).

8 years of Chrome updates too VS 2 tops for any Android tablet

    • Yes, the chromebook updates are great. Even the HP 14 I have is I think until 2027 or something.

  • +1

While expensive compared to its US$ price, this Chrome OS has just been released, and is the 128GB storage variant. The inclusion of the Clock makes it a bargain (OW has at same price without clock) if you value the clock.

The ARM-based Mediatek processor powers the Android apps very well - better than (or at least as well as) an i5 Chrome OS device. If you want an Android tablet, or to try out Chrome OS, this is one of the best Chrome OS devices available in Australia.

Also, Chrome OS provides constant updates - so if using for Android apps you'll get updates until 2026, which no Android tablet provides.

If you're considering this as a full laptop replacement running Linux apps, you probably want a device with more RAM.

  • I think the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook is more suitable as a convertible Laptop if you are ok with 4GB of RAM (available on amazon US for US$409 but need a forwarder to AU)
The Lenovo Duet is an awesome tablet, included keyboard is useful but may not suit for use as a everyday/hours of typing laptop.

    • +1

if I really wanted to get this (which I don't), I'd rather pay the extra $2 to get the clock to off-load on gumtree for ~$20 or more…

  • For around this price I much prefer the Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook - but the Lenovo Duet is a great tablet (I will hold off for now but hopefully it will get under $500 in the next few months).

  • I was really intrigued by this device because this is like a Surface Pro 7/X but 1/3 the cost with keyboard.

Does anyone know any similar 2in1 tablet with detachable keyboard like this one (and Surface Pro/Go)?

    • I have a HP Chromebook X2, which is 2 years older than the Duet.

The Duet is a standout in the Chrome OS space, albeit a little more expensive outside of USA.

If you want the Duet as an Android tablet, I'd say go ahead. If you want a better keyboard you'll have to wait (I love my X2 keyboard AND its 12" display, but it is twice-as heavy as my Pixel C tablet). The Chrome OS tablets continue to develop, and remember you'll get 5 years of OS updates.

  • For the tablet alone, how would this compare to the Samsung S6 Lite?

    • I presume you are talking about the Samsung GALAXY TAB s6 Lite.

Performance-wise, pretty reasonably. But it is a chromebook, not an android tablet, which would be a reasonable change for most people. Yes, it has the Android Google Play store, but the experience will be different. The fact the Duet has an ARM processor is a plus for Android.

Also, the Duet and S6 Lite are only 4GB. For light use that might be ok, but with OS and Google Play updates they do tend to increase their RAM use.

Regarding updates, the Duet will get multiple updates a year for 5 (maybe more?) years. Samsung might get upgraded to 11.
