EDIT - MORE STOCK ADDED 28/7

Hi again Ozbargainers,

I've had a few emails requesting an Ozbargain Cold & Flu offer so after working with one of our suppliers I've come up with one!! Given the interest in the Hayfever and Allergy deals of previous weeks, I'm not sure how much demand there is in cold & flu products on Ozbargain - I guess we'll all find out.

  • What is date of expiry on these? thanks

    • Hey dingdong (thanks for your support on previous deals), exp date is 02/22

Can you do psudo ones or only phentyl crap ones? With the psudo ones i bounce back in 1-2 days, with phentyl ones it's more like a week… Lol feel a cold coming on and last time it cost me 9 days pay due to don't go to work until you have no symptoms… stupid covid.

  • Hey op. Genuine question. Is this due to being overstocked as less are getting sick this winter due to lockdown??

    • A few Ozbargainers emailed me asking for a cold and flu deal so I asked a supplier for a discount to run an online deal. A supplier of another brand (same product type) sent an advisory to our pharmacy group advising that this (and several other lines) are expected to run out of stock this season. So while anecdotally I agree with you that less people should be getting sick due to social distancing, working from home etc, suppliers are actually expecting a run on cold and flu items this season.

Hope you tell them to go get tested.

Thanks brought 1, was planning to buy 2 but the discount code didn't work to reduce the price so only brought 1. Just out of curiosity are these made in Australia or India?

    • +1

Thanks - I have updated the code settings so multiples can be purchased and multiple discounts apply. This item is made in New Zealand.

Thanks for the prompt reply and sending off the package.

Keep in mind that the decongestant is "Phenylephrine hydrochloride" not the behind counter "Pseudoepherine". Will see if Phenylephrine is any better.

    • It is crap for me. Ymmv

    • +10

Phenylephrine is garbage. There's a reason pharmacies still keep and sell Pseudo….

    • +6

Phenylephrine is a complete waste of time, no better than a placebo

      • +5

Not quite true. I believe placebo was shown to be approx 5% more effective than phenylephrine lol.

    • Yeah based on much comparison and also confirmation from some pharmacist friends phenylephrine just does not work

      • +1

Also stated as such on Wikipedia, referencing a few studies

  • +11

    Pharmacist here
You're basically taking Panadol for the day time tablets, and Panadol with a drowsy anti-histamine for night time tablets. Studies show that PE (phenylephrine hydrochloride) has a ratio of 0.6 compared to pseudo ratio of 30, meaning taking the PE version won't do much to relieve sinus problems. Best to go for the pseudo variant :)

    • Looking for the pseudo deal

      • +1

We can match this price for Ozbargainers on the pseudo version but clients will need to come in to the store, it cannot be sold online ;-(

        • Can I get 96 tablets ?

          • +1

@cowiie: Please refer to our pharmacist in store if interested, note that the quantity YOU REQUEST is required to be logged on a government database against your personal details.

            • @jason101: Any quantity of Pseudo based products has to be recorded by law.

              • @bigAlOz: Yes - the point I was making is not just what you buy but what you request to buy is also recorded.

          • @cowiie: If you want each tablet to contain 7.5mg of pseudoephedrine then yes, you can buy 96 tablets.

The standard effective dose is around 50-60mg.

        • Do you have any stores in SA?

I see the website address has Craigmore, but can’t find any other locations.

Interested in the pseudoephedrine version. I thought we need a script from a GP to get it in SA… all the chemists near me won’t sell any quantity without one.

PE is rubbish. With Pseudoephedrine, I get relief with a single 30mg tablet.

@Graffin: 1 store at 1/2 Zurich Road Craigmore SA 5114- come on down. Tell the pharmacist his beloved business partner has been running deals on Ozbargain again (watch him sigh..) and the price quoted was $8.49 per pack for Ozbargainers in July 2020. A registered pharmacist must make an assessment as to your need for the product in person, record details after giving you a brief Q&A. So unless you present as sick an in need of the product specifically, supply may be denied and or restricted based on his assessment of you. (I call this Pharmacist god mode and it drives me loopy too)

            • @jason101: Thanks for the reply. It's a bit of a drive from down south in Sturt, but it may be worth the trip.

I'm fine with flashing my drivers license. I actually use it for hayfever (in combination with Chlorpheniramine). Most pharmacists try to push off the more expensive Zyrtec, Claratyne, Telfast, etc which just don't work on me, whereas half the adult dose of good old Pseudo (and a Demazin generic) does the trick.

I'll see how I go with the pharmacist. Their questions usually drive me mental. Yes, i've had it before. No, I only take it when absolutely necessary. Blah, blah. I guess they just have to cover their arses!

    • Yes, I was aware of 2 versions which is why I mentioned the pseudo version for comparison and the reason why it is behind the counter.

    • Why is it so bloody hard to get it then? I appreciate they need to not sell commercial quantities to drug manufacturers but its almost like you have to pass some secret handshake test for the pharmacist workers to even consider selling it to you.

      • Because it's a precursor for methamphetamine production

  • Just ordered the cold and flu.

Probably wouldn’t of ordered if I saw the comments here first.

    • Yes, I always read the comments first. This community is a fount of all knowledge.

You might as well just buy paracetamol, and pseudoephedrine separately. Cheaper that way and you an actually use for specific symptoms (pain, runny nose respectively) instead of just taking a combination every time.

  • Haha, this stuff would normally be selling like hot cakes this time of year. Now they have to discount it heavily to get rid of the stuff.
People staying home and social distancing means people aren't getting cold and flu as much as normal. I have not had any cold/flu all year….it has been the only positive to this crappy COVID year.
