  • so we can pay this with catch gift cards?

    • Yes I did. But not if you are paying with zip pay.

      • Can I buy one big catch egift card and use it to pay for separate prepaid plans for myself and family members?

        • Yes you can but maximum gift card sold is $100. You can use up to 5 in one transaction

          • @Pricebeat: Suncorp rewards site says amount must be between $10 - $500

I entered $500; checkout says 'Catch $500 digital eGift card'

            • @andresampras: That’s good to know. I only buy from coles etc. and they only sell $20, $50, $100.

It should work and you will have remaining amount in gift card

              • @Pricebeat: For reference - Suncorp listing for Catch eGift cards says they are valid for 36 months from purchase

                • @andresampras: Usually when I buy catch giftcards from Suncorp it will be fully used within minutes:) The ability to purchase exact amount down to cents is really good.

wow, remind me again why i'm paying $60 a month for Vodafone…what is the drawbacks of these type of plans?

    • -1

Coverage is better than Voda. Good co. to deal with also.

    • Nothing. Support can be worse than top tier/small providers, but you're already with Vodafone. And technically support isn't required for a mobile service aside from porting.

      • Is porting out still an issue? I remember hearing Catch Connect had that issue early.

        • you probably read some dimwits post that probably had dodgy details. Port can take 3-4 days if you need to phone up and update ur details so they can port u. I port out every 3 months to Kogan and back again to catch.. port usually takes 1 or 2 minutes from time ive requested the port online

          • @Gavman: I ported from Catch to Amaysim and it took me close to 2 weeks. Was bs. Porting the other way was like 10 mins.

      • +2

        current Catch Connect user here.
You can at least get support with Catch when you need it, unlike with Vodafone. You can call Catch and speak an Australian call centre!

The only downside of Catchconnect: no VoLTE and no VoWiFi. If you don't what this means, you probably don't need it.

        • Even if you do know what it means you probably don't need it

          • +2

@Jackson: some people have very poor mobile coverage at home. They sure know what VoWiFi means.
some people use phone for data tethering. They sure know what VoLTE means.
            ….
            ….
some people at OzBargain do care

            • @vrsac: Probably: most people

              Some: a smaller fraction

        • My wife uses VoWiFi. Pretty sure it works fine

      • Well Optus support is some of the worst I've ever dealt with so there isn't any benefit there going with the bigger company.

        • Telstra support is also shitty nowadays. Four days and chat support still not able to port over my number. Disgusted with Telstra

          • +1

@Jared17: Same with Optus. I bought their $150 plan which is the same as this one last week but didn't receive it. Called them on Monday about it and they told me they ran out of sim cards because of covid so they are on backorder and dont know when it will actually be sent, so I should buy a $2 sim instead. Did that then called back again and they said I had to port my number in first and I had to do it over the phone, that took slightly over 2 hours because the person doing it made so many mistakes. Finally got it done and had to call back to get the credit transferred to the new sim and they kept transferring me to different departments because they all said they had no access to my account. Over all my calls to them I was transfered 17 times. Eventually got through to a supervisor who put me on hold for minute and they never came back, waited 40 minutes before someone answered and said they would call me back with details. The did call me back to say they were processing my refund. I gave up and accepted it, then saw this deal so besides wasting a week without any phone I'm better off.

    • -1

      Virtually nothing.

Going on contract is basically a telco tax for people who can't afford to pay up front.

    • +3

I would argue that Vodafone's metro network is better than Optus', especially with the upcoming spectrum injection and integration of TPGs small cell network into Vodafone's.

Also, with CatchConnect (or really any other MVNO except Boost), you miss out on VoLTE and VoWifi which can be very valuable features, depending on how you use your phone.

      • I am curious on VoLTE and VoWifi, what are they good for?

        • VoLTE = Voice portion of call is over LTE (4G) network not 3G network

(Note: to those that don't know when 3G officially closes in a few years if your 4G mobile doesn't support VOLTE then voice calls won't work, though data should👍😀🤪, I'm guessing cheap nasty 4G mobiles might not support this, NOTE: my Note 4 from what 7 years ago does)

VoWifi = Voice portion off your call is over your mobile WiFi connection (you can make and receive calls/SMS over Wifi), like mentioned above handy if at work or were ever your 4G/3G is poor of non existent, I'm not sure if your mobile needs too support this but for sure your Telco provider needs too

    • Cos you're a noob

  • How is the Catch Optus network coverage in Brisbane vs Boost? Is it possible to buy this SIM first then wait about 2-3 months before I port/activate it?

    • I'd also like to know re delayed recharge

    • +2

Click on the CC link above… read the T&Cs..
"You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase"

  • +1

Existing catchconnect customer need to port out and then port back in?

    • yes, just talked to a rep online and they provide standard response which = you need to port out and back in to be eligible. this sucks

    • Yes

    • Can you do this instantly though (or as long as the port takes), i.e. without having to wait 30 days or whatever? Assuming you're creating a new account too… but same number obviously.

  • +2

IMO Boost network and support is worth the extra ~$30.

    • you forgot to mention Unlimited Overseas calls, MMS and SMS (certain destinations). I find that handy in my job since I only need to carry one phone.

  • 30 days to activate?

  • +1

The $20 Zip Pay offer is only for new Zip customers.

    • So is zip zap like After Pay?

      • Yes. Zip Pay is like After Pay :) Zip Zap Zup Zep Zop :D

        • So can you pay in full or payment is split over so many months?

          • @nightelves: Yes. But there is a minimum payment, depending on your credit. I think for 1000 credit in your account, minimum payment is $80.
Also, if you don't pay in full after a certain period, you should pay interst as well.

            Only used it two times.

    • +1

my zippay is linked to paypal.. definitely not a new customer and purchased at $88

  • -1

bastards, i paid $135 last week with unidays… $30 less could of got me some ubereats :D

    • +8

      could of

      Or some grammar lessons :P

  • +3

Can I buy now, and activate it in 4 months?

    • You have up to 30 days to activate it from the date of purchase. The current discount runs until the 22nd of July, so I don't think it'll work if you need it in 4 months.

    • i think u have to activate in 30 days

    • Short answer is yes, long answer read the above posts 🤪👍

      • You mean no.

  • (profanity) cheap!! Got it last week for $117 with GC and unidays

    • any spare codes?

  • This is so cheap. Do you guys think it will still actually be available come the 22nd?

    • They'd release a $15 promotion for the 90-day plan come 22/07.

  • isn't Zip $20 discount for new customers only?
will it work for old customers too?

    • Just choose zip pay and see if it works, you don't actually need to apply any code.

      • Yeah I have seen that , but i was wondering why they mentioned new zip customers

      • Is zip pay same as PayPal?

    • i would like to know if it will it work for old zip customers too? if any existing zip customers made a catch purchase over $50 can they report back here please if they got the $20 credit so i can pull the trigger too?

  • What defines as a new customer? Iv got an account but never used it.

    • New customer to catch connect

      • I mean for Zip Pay.

        • it means the first thing u buy using Zip Pay service. regardless of where u purchase from

  • Anyone have a spare UNiDays code available? Cheers!

    • +2

Sent you a pm, have one spare

      • Thank you so much! :)

  • Wats zip pay and can I use my Amex card for it?

    • +2

It’s like buy now pay later service.

      More here https://zip.co/

They do credit check I think when you sign up.

      • Thanks

  • Any spare unidays code? Thanks in advance.

    • Have one spare, i'll pm

  • Any difference between buying it on the catch site vs. catch connect site?

    • Not much other than how you stack discounts.

Catch.com.au lets you use Unidays/discounted Catch gift cards and/or ~3% cashback
Catchconnect.com.au will get you $8 cashback

  • Can I buy a catch sim at nearby shop and activate this offer like with boost or kogan?

  • Just to clarify, T&C say something like “you have to activate within 30 days of purchase, or the date advertised in the offer”. Since there is a date mentioned in this offer i.e. 22nd July.
Does that mean we have to activate by 22nd July, or this date is for purchasing this and activation can be done within 30 days from the purchase date?
Just purchased it today, so just wanted to confirm about activation. Thanks.

    • +1

Purchase by 22/7/20 and activate within 30 days, ie. 21/8/20 in this case.

However I forgot to activate the last promotional SIM I bought from Catch until a few months later and it still worked. Was a 30 day $49 prepaid plan that I bought for $5 I think.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

      • Thanks

      • I wish I have known this and stock up on their $5 Sims.

        • Just checked my account.

Sold by Catch (Shipped On: 27-03-2020)
Catch Connect 30 Day Mobile Plan - 40GB
          1 × Catch Connect 30 Day Mobile Plan - 40GB
          $4.90

Activated only last week lol, though porting took 2 days because weekend and I was on the Optus network already with Amaysim.

          30 Day Plan - ID: 831
          40 GB
          $49.90
          / 30 days
You've got 28 days remaining. Your service will not be automatically recharged. Turn on auto recharge. Your plan inclusions expire on:
          Expiry: 06/08/2020

I consider myself lucky and wouldn't risk it with this deal, in case it doesn't activate after 30 days you'd be out a lot more!

My next question, are there any SIMs that allow porting to without a mandatory recharge?

    • +1

Reread the T&Cs and and now I'm not sure.

You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier).

The same promo on Catch Connect reads:

You must activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in the promotion (whichever is earlier). Offer may be withdrawn at any time.

So may actually be 22/7/20. 🤔

  • Is it only for new Catch connect user?

I am using Catch connect right now but it will expire in the end of this month

    • Similar situation here.

I know you have to port out and then port back in using a new and different account (email address, presumably), but I'd like someone who's done it before to confirm that it works if you do it straight away.

  • Any international minutes? Cant find anything about them

  • Please use the code giveaway megathread For UNiDAYS code requests. Thanks.

  • If i port to amaysim for 1 month and port back, will i still be new customer for catch?

I know both of them are under optus network.

    • Yes, but could take a while.

  • whats the quickest easiest cheapest way to get a edu email address to sign up to UNiDAYS ?

  • Current Catchconnect user here, with 10 days left. Really want to get on this, whats the cheapest and quickest option to port out so that I can get this? TIA

    • +1

      Someone showed me this: https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/free-sim-offer/

Waiting for it to arrive, and then will try port out, port in (under a new/different account but keeping the same number). I haven't been able to find anyone else to confirm that this will work so I'll report back if it works for me.

EDIT: otherwise I think $5 SIM from Aldi instore would be your best bet for quickest (not cheapest). Unsure if any $2 SIMs will let you activate without additional credit?

      • cool let us know how you go!

So every time when catch has promotion for 'new customer', a new account with different email + different carrier is required?

        • +1

The fact your with another company/Telco makes you a new customer irrespective if you had your number previously with Catch, why the hop skip and jump with porting back and forth,.. so yes you can use the same email,. Well everything else will be the same, name, address, mobile number and your ID check👍
