So, Iโ€™ve been approved with minimal credit balance. And I was like โ€œhow are they going to reward me if I did not provide my flybuys number?โ€ So i contacted Citi bank support and they confirmed that once Iโ€™ll meet eligibility criteria, I should receive an email from them and only then I have to provide my flybuys number to receive the rewards.
    Can someone confirm it?

    • +2

      it's in the t&c

We will request your flybuys membership number from you via email within 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria.

      • Thanks mate

    • +1

From my past experience yes, you will receive an email and tell CITI your flybuys account number.

Also from the email sent by citi

We will request your flybuys membership number from you via email within 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. The flybuys points will be credited to your flybuys account within 6 weeks from the date we receive your flybuys membership number. If you do not provide us with your flybuys membership number within 8 weeks from us first requesting it, we reserve the right to credit the equivalent amount of Citi reward Points to your Citi Rewards Credit Card.

  • Great deal . Just not sure if i will be eligible as i had a different citi bank credit card but cancelled it about 6 months ago. Nothing in the terms and conditions

Be aware, there's an extensive list of merchants/payment types excluded from the eligible transactions required to meet the $3,000 requirement. For example many types of travel are excluded. Extract here (I added the bold):

"any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, payments to other Citi accounts, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges, transactions made using Points and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi-government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs). Please note that whether or not a transaction is an Eligible Transaction will be determined based on information provided either by the merchant or the relevant financial institution (including information about the type of business conducted by the merchant). This means that, for example, spend with certain merchants may be characterised as spend with a government related entity and therefore not an Eligible Transaction, even if that merchant is not in fact a government related entity; or"

Note that what they class as "government-related" is up to them and they won't tell you beforehand if a merchant is in or out of this list.

    • +3

Government related transactions does count towards the $3000 spend but you won't get any rewards points

    • +1

you've quoted the terms for earning Citi reward Points not qualifying for the bonus flybuys which are

Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, Chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold.

    • +1

I do agree it's a lot more than most cards. So does government related transactions include water and electricity (in WA both are owned by semi-government entities)? I get reward points on my other credit card for government related transations and council rates/parking stations/public transport as well. It's a good deal to burn and churn though if you can get approved, like a lot of the comments have said.

    • +1

Don't know why you got downvoted…pretty valid point, read it on their site as well; thinking twice about taking a punt on this card.

      • +1

        because it's wrong

  • no Google pay functionality?

    • I don't think any of the Citi credit cards support it e.g. Virgin Money, Coles or Citi-branded cards but I think they support Samsung Pay.

The online interfaces for all of the card products are pretty crap too though the apps are a little better.

  • Does anyone know if you can get this card if you have closed a Citi card in the last 12 months?

    • See previous comments, but in short they indicated that you could

  • Good deal. I went to apply and their website crashed after it pre-approved and just before it wanted me to upload docs. No idea whether the application was received, online chat was pretty useless and I don't know whether reapplying will hit my credit file again. Looks like I'll be in the call centre queue on Monday.

    • Did you get an email at any stage? Mine timed out and I got an email with the application number. Continued with no problems, although timed out again at the last stage. Got a confirmation email though saying to upload my docs.

      • I didn't receive anything at all. No confirmation email nothing. After u submitted though, it says they will assess and be in contact. Hmmm interesting.

      • +1

I ended up getting an email with an application number about an hour afterwards, along with a link to log in to upload docs.

  • Got instant online rejection. 6 figures income, no CC/mortgage. Though, had ANZ card in March, closed straight after points received, early May. And got Car Next Door inquiry on my credit file last week. Both damaged my credit score from Very Good to Good. Was I too early to apply? Shall I call them or just suck it up and wait for a Credit Score to go up again? Though, how will it go up if there's nothing to show repayment history on? I thought to get this one and repay balance for 3-4 months to improve my score…

    • definitely call to get it reviewed. i did and the only reason they initially rejected me was they thought i was a temporary resident with visa expiring in august ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  • What other transfer partners does flybuys have besides velocity? Not keen on transferring to velocity atm

    • Flybuys travel?

      • Is it like amex travel with very bad points to $ ratio?

    • +1

Personally I will be converting the 75,000 points into $375 flybuy dollars and spending in Coles supermarkets, Coles Express, Kmart, or Target.

When converted into flybuy dollars there are a bit like eftpos - I could buy $200 at coles and pay for the whole amount using flybuy dollars (it acts a bit like eftpos which a flybuys dollars balance) - perhaps look it up if you not familiar.

    • Or you can just have citi rewards equivalents in your account.. :D

  • Anybody knows if this comes with priority passes?

  • What If I pay my rent with this card? Will that be counted towards the 3000 spend limit?

    • you pay rent by credit card?

    • If they accept CC then yes, but Citi payall dose not count

Applied, conditionally approved, uploaded payslips and received reference number online. Only took a few minutes and email received 10 minutes later.

    • Ditto here. Very quick turnaround and approval.

    • Quick approval for me also - card has not turned up yet however.

  • Applied Friday afternoon and got approved email just now.

    • Yeah same here.

  • Where in the application do you put in your flybuys number?

    • You donโ€™t…need to be approved first and then youโ€™d add your Flybuys number once you get the card I guess.

      • +2

Already addressed in the first page of comments. No need to guess.

        • Thanks for that. I wonder why my comment was negged ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  • Ha. After receiving an approval notification, I was sent a change of address notification. They removed my suburb from my address. I donโ€™t even.. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

    • +4

I can beat that - according to Citibank my middle name is made up of numbers.

      • I can beat that also - according to Citibank I'm now a mrs.

        • +2

Could be a warning if you don't pay your bill on time.

      • Do you have an apostrophe in your surname?
For example O'D can come out on online forms as O#@%)(D.

        • Nope, no symbols.

No numbers either, until Citibank had their way with me.

    • +1

FFS they acknowledged my card was sent to wrong address and issued a new one. But not before removing my suburb again. I give up.

  • Thanks OP.

Applied. Submitted the docs,.and approved within 6hrs.

Now to setup a flybuys account….

    • -2

Where does one input their flybuys?

      • +2

post it as a comment on ozbargain

      • @nightelves, if you are approved, you then convert your Citi rewards points to flybuys

How do I convert my Citi reward Points to flybuys points?
Sign in to Citibank Online and visit Rewards > Citi Rewards
In Citirewards.com, select Travel > Points Transfer and choose flybuys
Select the number of Points you would like to transfer and confirm your flybuys details
Read and accept the terms and conditions.
Your flybuys points will appear in your account within 21 days.

They called me today because their system seems to have not taken my document, despite me uploading in. She said we will give you an extra 5k flybuys for uploading my documents. Sounds good.

    • Sounds like a other commenters in the thread. They decided not to approve me. Strange. Maybe they knew they weren't going to get anything out of me.

  • Hi all, approx how many days from approval until card arrival? Have some bills I wanted to put on the card ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Just got my card today, approved last Monday

      • Thanks! Sounds promising.
I managed to get an extension on insurance renewal which will help as well.

    • +1

I got my card today. Applied on July 10th. Approved on July 13th.

      • Thanks. Ended up taking 7-8 days from approval/card in mail email to delivery. Pretty fast. I guess card emboss (print in this case) is pretty speedy.

  • Do Woolworths gift cards (cashrewards) count towards spend you reckon? Can't see anywhere saying otherwise

    • +2

Yeah, should be alright, I have used it too for a recent purchase of 500 ww gift card, it earned the normal citi rewards after the transaction got processed.

  • +2

rejected with a $100k salary, no mortgage or other credit cards. If i can't get one not sure who can

    Citibank you've done it again๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    • You are no good to them as chances are you wont ever default on payments because you dont have any mortgages or credit cards to your name.

    • +1

Got approved, sent a card and rejected all at the same time. Must have seen how much money I made from them from on their Coles card last year and thought twice about it lol. Can't see any other reason either.

      • yeah, I took advantage of that as well.

        Classic citibank

        • So sounds like you've made a fair bit of coin from citi, yet your stil salty?

          • @Mrgreenz: Not salty, Never upset anz, St George or westpac and have taken out multiple cards with each with an application getting approved this week.

More confused about the inconsistency with citibank.

    • @Drakesy: are you a permanent resident or citizen?
they have no idea how the visa system works in Australia and i got rejected because of that.
have asked for review now and gave them more documents.

      • Yep citizen

  • Received both cards, activated, but cant add Diners Club card to Paypal. Has anyone has success with this? Not sure the Diners Club card will get any use if i cant use via Paypal.

      Do you eat out?

          Citizens of Victoria Ignoring Directions?

          • @muncan: Sydney here. Not seeing much use for Diners Club.

            • -1

@Scorn: Because of some Citizens of Victoria? (Ignoring Directions)

              • @muncan: Sorry. I have no idea how Victoria is related? Im in Sydney, and don't see any options to use Diners Club… Thats if Victoria is locked down or not?

    • Can you use DC to pay on PP? I have tried a few times still no luck.

Is there a way to track that this promotion has actually been applied? It isn't mentioned anywhere in Internet Banking or my signup emails.

    • ๐Ÿ“ž 13 24 84

    • Please let us know how you go - I also don't have the promotion mentioned anywhere.

      • +1

I confirmed with them that I had met the spend via online chat and took screenshot

    • +1

If you still haven't, wait for your 1st statement, if it's charged you $49.00, it's all good!

  • Easy online application process requiring only one payslip (applied to ANZ the other day and they required 3 months of payslips). Also FYI this card has apple pay.

Note from the small print can be up to 14 weeks before the credit the points:

Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, Chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold.

75,000 flybuys bonus points: We will request your flybuys membership number from you via email within 8 weeks of meeting the spend criteria. The flybuys points will be credited to your flybuys account within 6 weeks from the date we receive your flybuys membership number.

$100 Kmart eGift Card: The Kmart eGift card will be sent to you within 8โ€“10 weeks of meeting the spend criteria, to the email address maintained with your credit card account.

  • First statememt came in, charged $199 instead of $49, didn't seem like I would be on for the bonus either.

Support seemed clueless, hopefully will be rectified in 3-5 buisness days

    • Did you have a Citi card in the past 12 months?

  • Thanks op. Applied yesterday, approved today. Have both the Coles and kogan credit cards

  • How long after approval do you receive the card?

    • I got it in 3 days. Sydney area.

  • Just applied and 30 min later I have an alert for my credit check from credit savvy.

    • Wow, got a call from Citibank to confirm few details and an hour later I received the SMS to let me know that the application has been approved. Pretty impressive with the speed of the whole process.

  • I got rejected for the card with a 465K loan and 2k limit in another card.
I though maybe due to my existing loan so i paid off 60k on the loan and called for a review today.
The rep told me that it was because I was not a permanent resident of Australia and my visa is expiring on 19th August 2020! Dafuk!
Informed them that with PR, I can stay indefinitely in the country as long as I don't leave.
I had shared a copy of my visa in the application and they said it was company sponsored (it's a skilled migrant 189) visa. Hilarious!
They are based out of Mumbai, India and clearly have no idea about visa system or how PR works in Australia!!!

Have sent them my citizenship application copy and receipt to verify my claims which I shouldn't even have to do. Hopefully they approve now.
