Nice. I paid $45 more during the first wave of Covid when these things were rare. Highly recommend.

    • Wish i was quick enough to get the prev deal around this price when you could still claim the free adapters

      • +1

If it helps I didn’t get any adapters.

        • Me either. The 30 days from when i submitted the request is almost up, I might have to resort to abusing call center staff

  • Sorry updated the link! wrong seller before should have been Titan gear

  • A bit shoddy leaving a promo that has expired in their photo….

  • +1

Excellent unit, full covered signal and stable speed, set up super easy, I'm with Mate NBN. CAn use as stand-alone router plugged straight into NBN box. You will not disappoint with the performance

  • Got a five year old FTTN nighthawk which has been amazing. It runs everything in our house wirelessly including three smart TVs pumping Netflix no problems. Only issue is, in the furtherest bedroom (where there’s a TV that runs Netflix without a problem) if we are browsing the web on devices the pages don’t always load without tapping the link several times. If I switch to 4G it loads immediately. This happens while the smart tv is playing Netflix perfectly.

Does this sound like the Netgear modem/router?

The distance from router is probably 20m, has 3-4 brick walls between and on second story (modem on ground floor).

FEIW Whole house wired with ethernet.

    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    • I hope so! this is a similar problem i have. Wifi connection is really poor upstairs and back main bedroom. Especially when all the kids get onto their tech and gaming

      • But ironically, works perfectly on the tv in the room running Netflix at high res. Hmm

    • Does the TV have an Ethernet port? If so connect the TV up via Ethernet and see if that fees up wifi bandwidth to your other devices. I think you'll find it does?

      • Thanks for the suggestion. Tv does, but no ethernet port near it.

Strangely, the the same thing (re slow to respond when browsing websites on wifi devices) happening in the morning, before Netflix binges. Hmmm

        • I assume you're using a 2.4Ghz channel?

          • @aldroid: Yep.

            • @Bellpop: The 3-4 brick walls will be the problem. If you have an Ethernet port upstairs I'd recommend to get a Ubiquiti Unifi AP for upstairs and leave your Netgear to cover downstairs.

              • @aldroid: Thanks for the reply. But won’t that be two wifi networks/SSIDs? And as areult wouldn’t that mean handover problems?

We have Apple TV’s in each room and use AirPlay, so one SSID is the go, I think?

                • @Bellpop: Should be fine. Just give it the same SSID and password and reduce the TX power of the upstairs AP to only cover the upstairs area.

              • @aldroid: Or you could get a powerline adapter.

                • @albert0pia: Not a fan of powerline adaptors. They work fine in some houses but in most cases they are just a PITA. If possible, try before you buy.

    • Yeah the problem could be the Netgear modem/router being on the ground floor. Wifi & brick walls are not friends either.

      • Thanks bud. Weird thing is it’s completely temperamental. Some times it’s fine and I think thank got I didn’t waste my money buying a mesh system And setting up all my devices. Other times with the exact same conditions My wifi is like using my phone with a patchy 3G connection.

Frustrating I can’t troubleshoot the problem.

        • I reckon you should give the M5s a go and hook them up with ethernet.

          • +1

@Twix: I think that’s the plan. Since the one nighthawk D7000 almost does the whole house, I think two Deco M5s should do the job. Thanks for your help :)

I like things to ‘just work’. So I’m gonna avoid the tenda and grab the M5s I think.

    • This TP-Link mesh network might solve the problem. Similar situation as you, multi-storey and a few brick walls and floors, I've previously set up a Tenda MW3 3-node mesh network for a property with 2 storeys and underground garage - primary node was on the ground floor with the NBN modem, one node upstairs and one node in the garage.

Alternatively, since you only have one room that's a little out of reach, have you considered using a TP-Link Powerline adapter? - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TP-Link-TL-PA9020P-KIT-AV2000-2-… - it is effectively using your powerline as an ethernet cable extender and wifi-AP for your bedroom.

      • Thanks mate. Will look into it

  • Brilliant device got in the last deal ..Anyways please suggest if this can we could be straight plugged into NBN device without need for an intermediate router

    • +1

Yes. It replaced our router and directly connected to NBN box.

  • Any deal for 2 pack?

  • Has anyone had experience replacing their Optus NBN (FTTC) modem by plugging the base station straight into the NBN box? What info would I need (username / password) - I have no idea what it is anymore 😳. Any pointers or guides would be helpful as I am far from a techie. Thanks.

    • +2

Optus NBN (FTTC) using iPOE, does not need any username and password, plugin NBN box, and then works

      • Thanks - not good with my terminology clearly…it's actually FTTN if that makes a difference

        • You must use the Optus modem with the M5 on FTTN.

Optus use the IPoE protocol on all their NBN.

    • +1

The nbn box is the modem, the Optus provided box will be performing the function of a router with the connection coming in through the WAN port. I can't speak for the Optus setup specifically but it would be highly unusual for them to not be using a standard authentication process meaning pretty much any router with a WAN port will let you connect

      • +1

Thanks for the clarification - I guess I'm asking whether it can replace the Optus router - not modem and seems to be a "Yes" (pardon the pun).

        • Yup - the modem (I think they call it NCD on FTTC) does the conversion from the communication protocol on the line between the DPU in the pit and your wall socket. Coming out the other side of the modem is ethernet standard, the same as would come out of a cable modem or any other kind.

The router then deals with tasks like authentication and, well… routing.

As per the guy above it seems like Optus use IPoE which is a pretty general standard, so any router should work.

I just reread your comment and you said you're on FTTN, so you'll still need an FTTN capable modem. I use a D-Link DSL-2888A as a modem into a Netgear orbi mesh WiFi system. The modem can be a router but I've disabled that and use it only as a modem. nbn won't have provided a modem for you, so depending on your existing setup you may need to get a modem to go with a mesh WiFi setup, or you may already have one that works.

Thanks, just snapped up the last one. Currently have a Netgear modem/router AC1200 speed(approx 4 years old). Is there any benefit of still using this or am I better off just plugging these straight into the NBN unit? Thanks

    • +1

      wow they went quick

    • +1

Plug M5 into the NBN connection device. Running the Netgear with the M5 can give you problems.

I got this last week. Has radically improved wifi in my two storey/medium size house.

I’m using my telco’s supplied modem router (Netcomm NF18ACV). I’m with Barefoot.

I’ve plugged in my PS4 to one of the nodes via ethernet and downloads and browsing the store has infinitely improved.

If I had the money I’d go for the Netgear Orbi due to its faster speeds and backhaul.

But for now the deco is fantastic.

    Hope this helps.

FYI, I was able to price match at officeworks with MSY. Ended up being $255. After reading the comments, I decided to grab the 3pack this morning. It had completely resolved my WiFi coverage issues in our two story rental. The app is great, took no time to set up, and has replaced the modem and plugs straight into the nbn box. Would absolutely recommend.

  • Just FYI, you can price beat (10%) at Bunnings for the 3 pack, just did it yesterday using the item on wireless1 website https://bit.ly/2ZocreW (got it for 246.15).
Didn't find the reduced price at MSY or would have used that for the price beat.
