[Pre Order] Avantree Orbit Bluetooth 5.0 aptX Transmitter $89 (August Availability) at Avantree

90
SUB10OFF

First Post, unsure if it's up to Ozbargain standards,

Have been looking for a bluetooth transmitter for my home theatre setup and chanced upon Avantree bluetooth transmitters, read in forums that avantree had very good reviews but this is a new product and is originally priced at $149.99, but its available as a pre-order for $99.99 a savings of 33%, and to top it an additional 10 bucks off with discount code SUB10OFF.

I've since pulled the trigger.

It looks good, at least on paper.

Pity it doesn’t support AptX-HD like the Oasis Plus. And no RX mode.

And not clear whether it supports Dual-Link AptX-LL or not (supports two headphones, and supports AptX-LL, but not clear whether it supports AptX-LL to two headphones at the same time). Oasis Plus does, but others don’t (can do dual, or AptX-LL, but not both at the same time).

    Interesting product though!

I have always wanted an Oasis Plus, but I’m waiting to see how the Fiio BTA30 turns out.

    • It would make sense that Fiio, being huge on head Fi s to be much better in it. But at 115$ sounds like a good option when it is available..

    • In case anyone was wondering, yes this does support dual-link AptX-LL, for two low latency connections at the same time (I got confirmation from customer support).

    • Through one of QnA they respond ”Orbit does support dual link aptx LL”.

  • Confused between this and oasis plus. How much difference does aptx hd make in normal tv hearing on good headphone ?

For TV use, you probably want to use AptX-LL (low latency), for better lip sync. (Which both support - you just need to make sure your headphones support it too.)

In terms of general sound quality (eg. for music listening), well, whether AptX-HD makes a difference to you really depends on your headphones, your source material, year hearing and your carefactor. Some people would hear the difference, some people wouldn’t. There definitely can be a perceptible difference between codecs, but whether it’s perceptible to you and how significant it is to you, is entirely subjective.

If you have high end gear, and are particular about sound, you probably should use AptX-HD (or LDAC, which neither of these support). Otherwise, regular AptX may suffice. My guess is the majority of people would be happy with AptX.

      • thanks…i am not an audiophile….i am looking for something good for tv viewing when the kids are asleep. i don't want any hiss or noise as my cheapie i am using now really terrible and connect also is hit and miss (all the hassel of restart, re pair, etc). i will be listeing either on airpods (pro and normal), Bose NC700 and bose soundlink speakers. I am more lean towards orbit, as it looks connecting with headphones and speaker will be easier, but definitely dont want any delay or lip sync problem.

Yeah, Orbit looks easier and more convenient to use, with the screen and device list.

Having said that, neither of them supports AAC, and none of your devices support AptX/AptX-LL. If you buy the Orbit, your devices will connect by SBC (which does have more lag than AptX-LL).

If you are open to buying another pair of headphones, you could buy the Orbit first, and see how well it works for you with your AirPods/Bose. If you find the lag/quality unsatisfactory, you could then purchase a pair of AptX/AptX-LL headphones.

Otherwise, I would suggest looking for an AAC transmitter. (Cant help there, sorry!)

Edit: Just to be clear, everyone’s experience of lag is different, and you may find SBC/AAC perfectly fine for you (ie. you may not need AptX-LL for perceptively lag-free / acceptable lag). Bluetooth implementation also differs across devices, so even using the same codec may result in a different experience with different devices. You just have to try for yourself, and see what works for you!

          • @caprimulgus: Thank you, went for orbit. As they are confidently saying it will work with AirPods and Bose. Let’s see how it goes. But thank you so much for such a detailed information sharing

  • Pre ordered this as well. Also ordered a $100 set of their headphones after having them confirm could connect 2 sets of Avantree headphones and both would have APTX-LL reception.
