before people get too excited about the "meatballs", has anyone tried some recently? They are definitely not of the same taste/quality they were many years ago. Also, unlike traditional beef meatballs, the pork component unfortunately seems to be the overriding taste in IKEA meatballs these days.

I'm surprised they can still stick to that opening date considering all the project setbacks and accidents. And looking at the state of princes hwy, it looks like they're still a few months off.

its not really a new store.. it just relocated from very old store at rhodes.
What do you mean relocate? The Rhodes store is still there.
Ikea is actually planning to expand to 4 stores in Sydney in the future.
IKEA used to have a store near Moore Park — a "tiny store" in IKEA's standard and they closed that down a few yeas ago. The Tempe one might be a new store, but it's just what the Moore Park store supposed to be (as Moore Park is relatively close to Tempe).
someone from ikea told me that moore park ikea was the smallest one in the world or sth hemisphere.
And now relocate to the bigest one in south hemisphere … what a big jump.

Either store? Tempe is the only one in question. One of the local papers advertised this morning that there were massive queue's outside the store but that traffic wasn't an issue yet. That was this morning though. I suspect peak hour could get crazy, people trying to get there after work. There's a free shuttle bus from Sydenham station every 15mins for the next 3 weeks.
yea tempe is the one in question but the sale items are on at both stores…

There is an Ikea competition at the moment where you can win a wedding at Ikea. Wtf?
IKEA's system of walking around the whole place annoys me no end. not worth being stuck in ikea for ages but hey if you're headed there to actually buy something then sure, why not.
My dad got food pousoning from eating the Ikea meatballs in Switzerland. Turns out, you can't pay someone $10 an hour and expect healthy edible food.
From Springvale store experience, the queue for getting freee meals were super super long. It may not be a good idea to visit Ikea store during grand opening days. The car park will be flooded. Hard to get in and hard to exit.
