    What's the usual price?

  • +5

These are STRICTLY for handy work (cutting, grinding, etc). These aren't for viral spread.

    • +3

And the price has gone up the other day on both. Not sure how a price increase makes them a bargain?

    • Because of the valve?

    • They're P2 rated though. Geniune question - what makes them unsuitable for viral protection?

      • +4

The valve lets yr particles out

        • True, the valve lets the virus out, so are not appropriate for most people. However Professor Raina MacIntyre, who has researched masks, was on ABC Radio National yesterday, and said that masks with valves are an alternative for people with breathing problems (such as lung issues) who cannot use masks without valves because they have difficulty breathing with them on.

@oztonyau: Surely it would be better for those with breathing problems to isolate and not risk spreading the virus whilst asymptomatic when the rest of the population is wearing surgical masks that don’t offer proptection from others.

            • @damion: We are talking about people with breathing problems caused by lung issues, eg. COPD. They might want to wear a mask as protection from infection, the consquences of which for them are more likely to be serious due to their pre-existing condition. However some find it difficult. According to the CDC exhalation valves can make their breathing easier. It's a big call to expect them isolate on the grounds that they are risking others' health, for the reason that due to their disability the only mask that they can wear is a valved mask.

        • P2 and n95 are never to be used for people with the virus letting particles out regardless of it has a valve or not. If you are protecting others from your virus you need to wear a surgical mask. N95 and p2 is designed to protect particles going in and therefore is protecting the wearer from outside pathogens.

      • They probably work for viruses but haven’t been tested for it. They can not label it safe for viruses unless they have been tested. However p2 remains p2 and should block off 94 % of microbes

I believe these are fine to wear for health reasons in public - Yes they have a carbon filter but this is no less effective as many other fabric face coverings that people are wearing and probably will be more comfortable so you might actually keep it on your face.
I do agree that they will not protect against viruses.. but then neither will the ones they sell at the chemist or that 99% of people are wearing. They should catch the bigger droplets which is the only point of wearing. They're not the cheapest they've been but cost a lot less than many other stores are selling masks for. If you have to wear a mask, these would be ok, better than a scarf anyway.
The actual N99 disposable masks are pretty awful to wear tbh and most people you see with them on are wearing them wrong or pulling them off to breath or eat or talk. I watched a whole group of federal police at the airport with them on, only one guy was wearing it properly.
Cambridge sells a N99 reusable mask with a valve - bought one for my Auntie with cancer last year. They do say they protect against viruses but you would still need good fit, goggles, hand hygiene, gown, etc

      • I think you're missing the point.
The general public has been instructed to wear masks to reduce community spread. This means protecting others, not protecting yourself.
Masks with valves release all the germs from your lungs straight out into the air which can infect someone else.

  • So…NOT a bargain… Remind me, why is it being posted here…?

    • So some dont think its a bargain. others do, how does one work this out.

Pre-bargain voting? - Wait a few days then post? - What if the deal is time limited?

Or as we do now, just post and let the votes decide?

Or do you have a better system?

And which Lashing system should we employ for transgressions … 🦹🏼‍♂️😁

      • My criteria is a reduced price versus a normal price, or in this case, a price increase…but that's just me…

        • Well given the mods dont check for these things and often let the community decide, should you report it, then the only system at present is the down vote.

Have you reported it to see what their reaction is?

Also you can use the TWAM thread to raise the issues you have if the response isnt to your liking.

          Enjoy
