      Trolling perhaps?
Anyway, up to you to decide what you want to do. At the start of the year, you didn't need to adhere to driving speed limits, to red lights, to littering regulations, to any number of things that some could perceive as inhibiting your 'freedom'.
The state governments have constitutional powers that they are tapping in to, and have imposed a few additional regulations. Again, up to you if you don't want to comply. And, same as at the start of the year, you will probably be caught and fined for non-compliance.
Do whatever; just don't impact on anyone else while you do it.

        • +3

Again, you can do whatever you want to do.
But don't tell me what I should or shouldn't do.

      • -6

what if they never get a vacine, we just keep living like this forever?

"no no they are saying its only another 3 months away". then repeat in another 3 months…………..

        • +3

Yet again, it is your choice what you do.
If you don't want to keep living like this, do something different and live (or die) with the consequences.

          • +1

@GG57: @dono2…..just don't put other lives at risk by doing what you want to do

Losing freedom is being thrown in jail for your opinion. Its your family being murdered because you speak out against the government. Being asked to please wear a mask to protect your fellow humans and yourself is in the spirit of your and societies right to good health.

I’m moving to Texas next year so..

    • +2

Highly illogical but something tells me logic may not be your strong suit. Hope you don't have any family or friends are risk, that's the sad thing in all of this. Someone's own stupidity becomes a risk for those who ensure their own safety.

      • -2

Life’s too short to wear masks and hide away. Love your life like it’s all last day on earth.

        • +2

Think most people would love their life if it was your last day on earth

        • ….I like life, thank you very much.

My life is already impacted by chronic illness.

I don't need a selfish idiot to shorten my lifespan even further.

        • +2

You anti-mask people are so stupid. Newsflash, you aren't so special that your face needs to be seen.

    • What if you found out you accidentally passed it on to someone and they got really sick?

  • +3

Far too many get out clauses to be "mandatory"

  • -1

Just a heads up in a statement on the news tonight woollies Aldi Coles Iga foodworks will not refuse entry to anyone not wearing a face covering yay I’ll be able to shop

    • +1

Good. There are plenty of people who legitimately can’t wear a mask, of course that won’t stop Karen and the authoritarians from bullying and threatening violence without knowing all the facts.

      • +2

Yep, I'm steeled for all the dirty looks and accompanying questioning from Karen's who are bored have posters of Daniel Andrews adorning their bedroom walls.

    • our local IGA released a statement last night that they WILL refuse (with a hint of cops visiting "frequently" maybe scare tactics who knows).

Someone asked if they couldn't buy masks do they have instore? They said yeah they do sell masks.. lol

    • +1

Prem Andrews just warned that supermarkets might turn people away for mask noncompliance.

  • Good morning, anybody mask up?

    • +2

      Mandatory tomorrow

      • Not in the supermarkets was on the news

        • It hasn't become mandatory yet, and if you are in country Victoria as per your profile, you are not required to anyway.

          • @GG57: I no country vic u don’t have to and the same goes when I go melbourne a lot I don’t have to as per the supermarket guidelines

            • +2

@Dex38313: Of course there are legitimate exceptions, and the supermarket statement was more about them not policing the current government requirements.
But (unless you have a legitimate exception) why wouldn't you.

              • @GG57: No
Offence but I don’t follow dan as I’m not restricted but yes up to the store who they let in I guess

I thought it is on Wednesday

        • +2

This goes into effect 23:59 July 22nd.

It starts 1 minute before midnight tonight.

  • +4

Masking up since April. Relieved to see this coming through and wish they had called for it a long time ago. I just hope people take it seriously and it doesn’t turn into a series of viral Karen videos.

  • +3

If this happened 10 years ago, everyone would be cool

Of course, they'd be quickly be banned due to everyone doing a tom hardy bane impression

  • Leaked something like 480 today .

  • +1

Should done that 5 months ago!

  • -4

So, in February, we were told (government AND WHO), not to wear masks.

Now, 5 months later, if we're in Melbourne without a mask, we will get fined.

    Very inconsistent message.

Cannot trust our government / media. They have their own agenda.

    • -2

Their friends want to sell face masks. What better way than making it mandatory to more products.

      • +2

People have demonstrated that they are stupid already by buying up masses of toilet paper. They don't need to be conned to buy a mask. At any rate, most of you might do well to loosen your tinfoil hats.

      • Many face masks come from Brazil not just china so not sure what you mean

        • +1

Interesting how you assume he is talking about a specific country. If anything I interpret that as a joke about “friends” being Aus distributors.

    • +3

More like. We gave you a chance to do the right thing and self contain, but of course everyone wants their freedom and go surfing. So now we have to treat everyone like a 5 yo.

    • +2

Message is pretty clear to me. It's not February anymore.

  • -1

Good. Now to make wiping your bum mandatory.

  • My mates wife complained to gp she will have mental breakdown if she didn’t get given a “exemption” order for not wear a mask and of course the gp gave her the exemption straight up. Now she can keep going out everyday and not wear a mask when she’s probably the type that needs it most. Talk about the irony.

    • +1

She is exercising her rights to get an exemption.

      • +3

I really hope she has the mental strength to cope with the public avoidance and shunning that she may potentially encounter.

        • +2

I suspect there are going to be some people who will like the negative attention so that they can “victim signal” on social media.

          • @mapax: Yep, what are the odds on Sam Newman being on the tv news or in the Hun tomorrow loudly defying this latest act of oppression, purely because he doesn't have any other media outlet now.

    • +5

Sounds like she's already had that breakdown…

    • +1

If she loose a family member then she will blame the GP.

Lawful excuses or exceptions for not wearing a face covering

A face covering is not required in the following circumstances:

Infants and children under the age of 12 years.

A person who is affected by a relevant medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. This also includes persons who are communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication.

Persons for whom wearing a face covering would create a risk to that person’s health and safety related to their work, as determined through OH&S guidelines.

Persons whose professions require clear enunciation or visibility of their mouth. This includes teaching or live broadcasting.

Professional sportspeople when training or competing.
When the individual is doing any exercise or physical activity where they are out of breath or puffing; examples include jogging or running but not walking. You must have a face covering on you and wear it when you finish exercising.
When directed by police to remove the face covering to ascertain identity.
The person is travelling in a vehicle by themselves or with other members of their household.
When consuming food, drink, medication or when smoking/vaping.
When asked to remove a face covering to ascertain identity, for example at a bank branch or bottle shop.
When undergoing dental treatment or other medical care to the extent that the procedure requires that no face covering may be worn.
    During emergencies.
You must carry a face covering with you when leaving home for one of the four reasons, even if you don’t need to wear it while undertaking your current activity, for example you can take your face covering off to eat. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a face covering at all times you don’t need to carry it with you.

    • +3

All anti-maskers are now rushing to the servo for a pack of fags…

    • -2

Morons will go over this and find any excuse to avoid wearing a mask even when none of these apply to them. I think some people need to lose a family member to see how real this thing is.

    • During emergencies.

      Covid pandemic is an emergency

  • -5

They should encourage it rather than making it mandatory, also the dhh.has conflicting things saying people won't be charged for not having a mask but eh let's (profanity) things up to get a bit of a cash grab over a virus that's less deadly than the flu while destroying the country watch it ramp up of trump wins and of he doesn't news reports will flow in how non lethal is become thanks to treatments available

    • Now I know what education level these guys are….

  • Please make bus drivers can refuse people not wearing face masks. I am sick of them. Still half of people on the road dont wear masks. Where are police?

    • To be fair, how could a bus driver determine if a person has a legitimate exception for not wearing a mask?

At least if you are wearing your mask, and try to stay away from anyone who doesn't, you are better protected than they are.

    • Still half of people on the road dont wear masks.

drivers don't have to unless they drive a passenger outside their family.

      Where are police?

      Relax dude

  • Tried DIY as I wanted some colourful ones and failed miserably, not going to line up at Spotlight again…..
Got these off Etsy and they're great, got a couple more off their eBay too. I just don't like the weird smell of factory-made ones.
It's really good to see most (maybe 9 out of 10) people wearing them outside today

    • What pattern did you use? They shouldn’t be that hard to make, I say as someone who hasn’t made any and gets them supplied from work.

      • I just googled the patterns. The ones I made do work but I couldn't get them to fit as snugly, plus I can't sew. lol

        • Fair enough, lol not being able to sew doesn’t help but at least you tried.

  • +2

I cannot wait to see the videos of triggered anti mask people yelling and throwing shit around when they're refused entry somewhere.

So many upset Karen videos headed our way 😁

  • -2

Only people I saw without a mask on was the young target group that don't give a #@ but with the loophole of walking around smoking and eating junk food .
They seemed to think they looked cool to their peers by not conforming !

    • smoking and eating junk food .

These are legitimate excuses for not wearing a face mask.

      • -1

You don't get it , not in their normal manner since the introduction .
Its by no means a statistical significant sample but previous data Australia wide has shown this group most responsible for the community spread !

    • +3

I saw a bunch of youths walking together today; all of them with masks on.

Drop the ageist stereotyping. It could just as easily apply to any demographic.

    • +5

Same with people at my work that are in their 50s thinking this is all a way to control us

  • So which are the go to, for comfort, ones that you can buy readily from bunnings or other…? just run with surgical style?>

  • -1

Things to note, face masks are here to challenge you on the future days of facial recognition.

As of now no law states you can cover your face other for health reasons, so look at this as a experiment for your health, and future privacy.

    unless

The government just bans face coverings in the future, then infrared face tattoos will be the next step.

  • +1

I call for a Grim Reaper type campaign to show this young group the Swiss cheese holes in their lungs that they are unaware of that will surely have no good long term health results .
Andrews current campaign showing effects on Health care works is really mild and most of this group don't care !

    • Yeah like the ad with the tenpin as peiple
