The mini gingerbread house normally cost around 50 Aud and it is pretty hard to get, free shipping +99 dollars, I just bought the creator expert gingerbread house (hardly ever on discount anyways), you get VIP points (around 5% money value to use for your next purchase) + the mini gingerbread house, seems to be a fair deal. Cheers.

      Corrected it, cheers

  • It's cute but the 2019 on the brickset annoys me

    • +1

Haha, just take it off and put it some where else

    • +23

      Better than 2020 so far

Inside there’s a witch dropping a bat into a cauldron. Hansel and Gretel catch Covid-19.

  • I like Crocodile Locomotive 10277 $170 but its most of the time is out of stock : (
Mini Gingerbread House 40377 has been around a while in US sells for USD $22 convert AUD $32

    • After crocodile loco as well and has been oos since day one except the first couple of hours, they will get more in when they can unfortunately with shipping very slow atm could be anytime. And dont feed the ebay overpriced resellers..

      • It's strange…always in stock at the official Lego stores. Annoying, but had to march down to the Lego store to pick Up an exclusive the other day which was always OOS online

you often see people on Gumtree/Facebook that have a heap of brand new sets for sale for under rrp… where do they get them from? if you're a lego member, do you get some sort of discount depending on how much you've previously bought?

    • +3

Not sure … but one time we found some suspiciously cheap Lego sets on Gumtree, and met the seller in a car park at a shopping centre. She came out with it, still wearing her Big W uniform, and happily told us she was a manager there.

      Uh huh.

Cash exchanged and we got the hell outta dodge.

      • @seedyrom

        -25% off sale price
        - 5% staff discount = 28.75% off
        - 5% wish = 32.31% off..

Sells to you at 30% off RRP and makes a few bucks?

Probably in breach of employee benefits T&C, but plausibly not illegal behaviour?

    • +1

Don't you see those ACA clips of people brazenly walking out with a trolley full of LEGO .
You buy with no receipts if stolen Police will seize it .

So lesson is, if you hear a knock at the door quickly flush your cheap lego down the toilet before the fuzz get it 🤪

    • To my knowledge, there is no standard discount for being a LEGO member but you can cash out "points" you earn on purchases at the LEGO store or via the LEGO website. It's possible that some astute LEGO buyers may be turning a profit by purchasing sets using their points and flipping them online but I suspect there's an extremely limited number of people that have the funds and knowledge to do so making this an unlikely cause of the sets you're seeing online.

That said, I have a few theories about what might be happening here. The one I'm convinced is most likely is that people who work in retail (Kmart, Target, Myer, etc.) purchase LEGO using some kind of staff discount knowing they can resell it on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, eBay, etc. with a higher margin (but, possibly, still below list price at a major store).

I also suspect that some of the stock has "fallen off the back of a truck" so to speak. Selling sets under those circumstances means any kind of money is profit which is why you see some great sets for prices that seem too good to be true.

Further to that, I suspect that some people are converting other scams/illegal activity into cash. For example, use stolen credit card to purchase gift cards > use gift cards to purchase high value items that are easy to liquidate (i.e. LEGO) > sell stock on Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, eBay, etc. to convert to cash.

    • if your new to lego, you wouldnt know that pretty much ALL Lego sets (unless Lego.com exclusive) precovid where being sold under RRP from the likes of big w, kmart, target, ebay stores etc

I would never buy ANY lego precovid unless it was at least 30-40% off. and trust me, i bought quite a bit at that price (and still do quite frankly)

There are supply issues now. so unless you are in lockdown and want to build right now, please do not buy sets that were released in 2020 off sellers for RRP or over. just wait until supply catches up

    • I dont see many under the cost and if they are the shipping is bumped to make up the normal overpriced value.

Do they have the boxes? If not the Lepin sets are about 95% the same quality as the real deal. I've seen them being sold in bags on Facebook marketplace before.

      • mate dont talk about lepin to lego fan boys you will get blasted lol
knock off blocks are now releasing their own MOCs which are much better than Lego's ones in some cases, however, shipping from China went up 50-100% over covid so it is much more expensive now to get good quality KO brands. might just need to wait a bit for pandemic to finish?

        • -3

They'd be horrified to know how many of the classic sets showing up in the Lego conventions are infact Lepin sets, e.g. pirates and western!

Yup a lot of the new sets are quite impressive, even the Technic ones coming out. It's a shame the Lepin raid resulted in the brand name being dropped making it harder to buy their sets through AliExpress. Though they're less about cloning and more about new sets. Enlighten ditched the clones and some of their new sets are a lot better. Also themes Lego won't touch like military.

Edit: You're right they just got triggered. 1 downvote!

          • -3

@Clear: Gotta be living a sad sad life if that comment offends you. Continue buying your fake Lego on Gumtree then. I certainly don't support the practice.

1 downvote for every person that supports fake.

            • @Clear: they are slowly getting into a space where they arent stealing IP anymore. Stilll going to downvote them then? Copying the brick is not stealing

              • @cumova: Lepin themselves do not exist anymore. The good brands really don't copy anymore. Even those who do this a good chance to get rare bricks.

      • aware of Lepin/Xingbao/Sembo (and actually have a few sets) but yes, the sets available on gumtree/facebook are brand new sealed boxes. Most of the sets aren't sold out sets (just normal 3 in 1 etc)

        • Answers my question thank you. Sounds as fishy as that Big W manager.

    • I have been trying to think how this works so I concluded on a few outcomes

      • Obviously stolen direct from a store, but this will only be for sets in stores
      • Stolen credit cards/money laundering, as some sets are seriously exclusive to LEGO online stores
      • Genuinely buying them but selling them for RRP or about $10-$20 cheaper or so, this depends what free gift (like this post) is offering where they may have offloaded this free gift and wants to make a teeny profit. Not to mention they will be able to accumulate the VIP points on LEGO online and reuse it to buy other sets.

$159 is a lot to spend on LEGO.

    • +9

Lol !.. are you new here? ;)

    • +6

      Do you even Lego? 😉

        • +4

          What a shame.

Lego was one of my childhood highlights

            • @Void: I didn't neg you btw

            • +1

@Void: Comes on Lego thread, dislikes Lego, never really had a Lego set, doesn't see the appeal of getting a decent Lego set, got rebooting desired putting one together..Yet wants to voice their opinion?

Your choice on your opinion, just as others choose that the opinion isn't any bit useful.

            • @Void: Oh yeah can't have opinions here. I got downvoted and abused for saying "I don't like bananas". Apparently that was wrong and I do infact like bananas despite the fact that I said I don't which doesn't matter because everyone else is right :/

        • +1

You're missing out on building skills creativity, attention to detail, critical thinking (for some of the more complex sets). Even on a simple level, if you can't do Lego then you're going to suck at doing IKEA.

          • -8

@nayfon: I built (rebuilt) a PC. I can definitely do a LEGO set, but there is too much pain involved :( Stepping on the bricks, breaking off your finger nail trying to separate two pieces and worst of all the absolute emotional destruction when you get one thing wrong. I just never saw the appeal, I'd be down to try it again if I had the opportunity. I prefer Mindstorms :)

Going dark, otherwise my inbox will die

            • @Void:

worst of all the absolute emotional destruction when you get one thing wrong.

There, there, maybe Lego really isn't for you.

You could always try a pet rock. They require no effort on your behalf and will always remain unchanged.

  • Does this apply only online? Or does the promotion work in stores as well?

  • +4

Promo won't be available when the new NES Lego Console is out Aug 1 :( https://www.lego.com/en-au/product/nintendo-entertainment-sy…

    • +1
