  • @tightarse - can we get any deal on "Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 (2020) AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U" (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/551080) again.

    • +1

I'd like this too. Pretty please!!

      • Yeah but their INTRO deal was much better if we can get it back, especially when you want to upgrade few things

        • Yeah I know it was cheaper by about $100. Still not bad for those that missed the INTRO deal.

          • @pomchu: As a test I compared Julove to Lenovo Pro (free account with ABN) on a high spec config for T14 and it was $100 cheaper without any coupon $2230 vs $2130). Might be able to find coupons to get it for a better deal again?

Test config was 4750U, 32GB, 512GB, Touchscreen, fingerprint, backlit key, 3-yr best warranty

          • @pomchu: Yes but when you upgrade the memory, hard, discount difference will be more I guess, I might be wrong

    • Second this! Can't believe I miss this deal earlier.

  • +3

Damn, ships in 4 weeks, plenty of time for more delays and quarantine issues to arise. Might be a good Xmas present

I was given the E14 as a daily driver from work. It’s really robust and works extremely well. I throw it in my draw and desk and carry it everywhere. The battery last long enough and I highly recommend this laptop to anyone. I have used lots of laptops over the years and this ones great!

  • Backlite keyboard?

  • Just pulled the trigger on this.

Have used Think pads for years with work and they are hardy as anything.

    No brainer at this price.

    Thanks TA!

  • 250nits is no good.

  • +1

Do we have to buy the charger separately?

  • Would anyone know how this goes when connected to 4k@60hz monitor (via HDMI or via usb-c dongle)? Do you get 4k@60hz? If using usb-c dongle, can you use power delivery at same time? Is it using YCbCr420 (aka chroma subsampling 4:2:0) (not sure you would be even able to tell)?

    • Fwiw, from my experiments with E495. The HDMI port does 4k@60hz, but uses YCbCr420 (aka chroma subsampling 4:2:0), and in this tests (see test image here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/chroma-subsampling) has a little bit of bluriness in come cases (e.g blue text on red), but seems clear for normal use. HDMI at 4k@30hz seems to not have the chroma-subsampling related bluriness. For usb-c to displayport, does full 4k@60hz (without the chroma subsampling bluriness), but I don't have dongle/dock to see if I could charge at the same time.

Not as good as the previous dell inspiron 5505 deal.

  • would this be a suitable replacement for HP Spectre x360 original with i7 5500u? Laptop will be used for home office and will be connected to two monitors at all times.

  • +1

Wish this deal was for the E15 too

    • Its there julove use this code

      • +1

        Yeah but it's more expensive

  • Wish a deal for Legion 5 AMD

  • isn't a 45WHr battery kinda small?

  • Any X1 carbon gen 8 deals

  • Thanks. Great deal. Ordered.

  • How about E15 TA

  • when do you enter the discount code?, I am up to payment and still full price

    • In the shopping cart.

      • Is it after the payment screen in final review because I can't see anything before that?

Hey thanks OP, able to replace my near decade-old T430S with this one. Just wondering… can this connect to a dock at my desk? I love the dock my current laptop just plugs straight onto. I want to be able to plug the minimum number of cords into the new one, and have it charge, connect to a screen (aiming for two screens), to Ethernet & to a USB keyboard & mouse. Any advice? None of the accessory options seemed to do all that, but maybe it's not a feature of this type of laptop?

Here is a pic of my E495 screen, taken in a well-lit room during daylight:

    http://tiny.cc/hk8ksz

    Seems fine to me?

    • Looks OK to me.

      • I tend to work with a darker screen at the best of time, but from all the talk here it makes it seem unusable. That certainly looks ok to me.

Wouldn't be an issue without work 'upgrading' our laptops (from 16gb to 8gb), but find myself in the situation of needing to buy a laptop for personal use for the first time in my life.

  • Ordered!, Thanks OP.

  • Experts plz guide (which one to buy and why prefer one over the other):

    ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 / 14" FHD / AMD Ryzen 5 4500U / 512GB SSD / 16GB RAM / Backlit / 720p + IR / Fingerprint - Touch Style / Intel AX200 11ax / Integrated 45Wh / 250nits for $967.97

    OR

    IdeaPad Slim 5 14" / 14" FHD / AMD Ryzen 5 4500U / 256GB SSD / 16GB RAM / Backlit / 720p / Fingerprint - Touch Style / Intel AX200 11ax / Integrated 57Wh / 300nits for $999

Ideally, I'd like to get IdeaPad Slim 5 15" but not sure when is it going to be available again.

    • +1

It's preference, you're just asking someone to convince you, it's right there in front of you in the specs?!

      A:
      Double SSD capacity (512GB)
      Infared
      $32 cheaper than B

      B:
      Bigger battery
      Better screen brightness for visibility
      $32 more expensive than A

I mean you could research weight, warranty ect, in the end it's just choice. Do you need more ssd space? Do you need a better screen? Blue pill or red pill, just decide. ^-^

      • thanks for the reply @LiMaaa. You're absolutely right in terms of the specs, but heard a lot of the great quality of Thinkpads and that's why getting a bit confused. And the RRP of Thinkpad is quite high as well and wondering if that's realistic or just a high price tag…

        • Both products are from the same company, the build quality is likely very similar. One is built toward premium market, the other toward work and productivity. I'm sure if you google you can find user reviews to help you look into user experience and quality, but honestly it's the subtleties that are going to help you make your decision. I doubt someone is going to comment who owns both an ideapad and thinkpad and give you a review rundown. Goodluck with your choice ;)

          • @LiMaaa: Thanks @LiMaaa

            • +1

@Shahw: I’d go for the bigger SSD and I believe the ThinkPad is aluminium top and bottom not plastic. You should also be able to add a second HD.

  • Hi, would there be any issue adding a 16GB RAM to the soldered 8GB RAM? Thanks!

    • +1

      Yes and no.

Ideally you want to add the same amount (& speed) of RAM as already present. That will give you dual channel performance.

Adding 16 will work but both sticks will perform single channel. Personally I'd prefer dual channel 16 GB over single channel 24 GB RAM.

  • will this be a good desktop replacement?

    • Depends on your needs. I got a 4700U/16GB RAM/512GB SSD model as a replacement for my aging i5 2500 desktop.

My gaming requirements are pretty basic, but for example I've been running CS:GO at 1920 x 1200 on low and it gets about 70fps, Valorant on similar settings is about 110fps. Seems like with more demanding titles I'd be able to take the resolution down to 1280 x 800 and still get playable frame rates. There's some YouTube videos showing Red Dead Redemption 2 running on a 4700U at 30fps with 1280 x 720, so it can handle some pretty intensive titles. Fan is obviously spinning pretty hard when I'm playing but the laptop doesn't get hot to the touch.

As far as general performance goes it's super snappy for browsing, office work and no issues with video playback.

The only thing I'd say that holds it back as far as a desktop replacement is that it doesn't have Thunderbolt support - Thunderbolt is a bit better at supporting serious multi-monitor setups (eg 2x 4k monitors). I've got one of these docks on order so hopefully in a week or so I can report on how it works:

      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/accessories-and-monitors/dockin…

      • Thanks for your response.

        My desktop is currently a i7 4770k, 16gb ram and 1050ti. My laptop is HP 840 g3 I5 6550u

My current laptop can be hooked up 2 screens by VGA port and Display port.

I use my current laptop for WFH and desktop for general needs.

What I play to do is to upgrade to snappy laptop and setup a virtual machine to mirrow my WFH setup.

  • is there a 4700u option?

  • Credit card verification for this transaction disappeared as shipping time is being delayed over 2 months…
Expected to Ship: September 28, 2020

    • Mine is changed to,

Expected to Ship: October 9, 2020

Expected to Arrive: October 20, 2020

Are you going to wait or cancel the order.

      • Mine is the same,

Expected to Ship: October 9, 2020
Expected to Arrive: October 20, 2020

Pretty annoying when the quoted shipping time was 2-4 weeks.

        • Yeah, was surprised to see that. I read they give you pessimistic delivery date and orders usually arrive earlier than the delivery date

        • Mine is same as well.

Has it changed to anything else again?

          • @Shahw: Yeah. It's changed to

Expected to Ship: September 27, 2020
Expected to Arrive: October 6, 2020

            • @h20co2: Same for me.

              • @Shahw: Mine is now,

Expected to Ship: August 31, 2020
Expected to Arrive: September 9, 2020

                • @bcdiggi: that's good. Mine is still:
Expected to Ship: September 27, 2020
Expected to Arrive: October 6, 2020

                  • @Shahw: For me when i checked it last week the delivery date was changed to last week of September but checking up it on now its back to August.

                    • +1

                      @slackerman: Mine has now shipped.
                      Expected to Arrive: August 17

                      • @bcdiggi: Yep..I even got a shipping confirmation from DHL today.

                        • @slackerman: Has yours arrived yet? Mine seems to be stuck in customs.

                          • @bcdiggi: Can someone run this test http://lcdtech.info/en/tests/dead.pixel.htm in a dark room and see if there is any white light bleeding from the corners of the screen when the color is all black?

                            • @Shahw: I would, but my laptop has been stuck in customs since last Tuesday. I will run the test when I receive it.

  • +3

I just checked - you're right. October arrival now. Definitely not a 2-4 week ship like stated. Kinda scummy.

Anyone got any good alternatives if in need of a laptop in the next 4 weeks ?

  • Damn hard regrets getting the last thinkpad deal without a backlit keyboard

  • Mine has shipped now dhl

    • Yep mine as well, got the email today. Now just waiting for an update email for the monitor from Dell lol.

  • Mine ended up bringing the date forward and is expected on the 18th.

Pretty good. Only issue I had was my cash rewards didn't track despite clicking on that link. Anything can be done about that ?

  • Ordered 26/7. arrived in Sydney today according to DHL. Should get it tomorrow hopefully.
I would be interested in whether I should nuke the existing Lenovo Windows installation, and load my own windows 10 Education licence or leave as is.

    • I got mine delivered today so should be with you soon! I almost missed the DHL delivery but luckily caught him as he was almost driving off lol.

  • +1

Arrived 13/8. Excellent build quality. I was very impressed with the lack of preinstalled crapware. The only thing I had to remove was Mcafee.

  • Mine arrived yesterday. Solid build and the screen is fine. It is not the prettiest laptop but it will do well as a replacement for my HP. For a start the fan doesn’t keep kicking in. I love the HP style but they tend to run hot.

    • Can you please run this test http://lcdtech.info/en/tests/dead.pixel.htm in a dark room and see if there is any white light bleeding from the corners of the screen when the color is all black?

      • +1

I did a check and I have some noticeable light bleed at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise fine with no stuck or bright pixels. I don't think it will bug me on a day to day basis as the Windows taskbar blends it anyway.

        • Thanks for checking @Ted
