  • Has anyone setup these connected directly with NBN HFC modems? Specifically for Dodo? Was hoping to get a quick guide. Thanks.

    • Dodo requires a VLAN ID of 100. See here: https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/2465/

      • Thanks.

    • I connected directly with HFC NBN modem, im with Mate NBN so i had to put my account details (username/pw) when setting up M5 but pretty easy straight forward, no drama…best router i ever had, you wont disappoint

      • Thanks!

Great setup got mine on Monday, super fast in our 42 square house. Paid $279, got on chat they gave me $15 voucher. Thanks op.

    • if you ask them for a $15 refund, they will do it

      • even after they gave the credit, they can remove the credit and refund you instead partially

        • Depends on who you get I think, he wanted me to return and buy again but for another $12 not worth the hassle, just took the $15 will get a book.

  • only 5 left in stock

  • This one or M9?

I just got these from bunnings this week for $242 as a price beat for MSY
They have been awesome and solved my blackspot issues

  • Very tempting. But not cheap enough:)

I just got a 2-pack for my apartment. It was really easy to set up and works really well - getting full bandwidth in the furthest corner.

  • Will this help improve my wifi speed? I’m on 100/20 plan and get around 60 download. When connected directly to Ethernet I get 90 download. I’m with aussie broadband using TP link VR600.

    • +1

I think you will, since your Ethernet speeds are much better than your current wifi.

Did you check that you're using the 5GHz wifi from your current router, and not 2.4GHz? Also what's the best wifi speeds eg. when you're closer to the router?

      • Speed on 5ghz is the same. I’m standing right next to the router.

That's strange, as I looked up your router and seems quite well specced. I assumed you've already tried usual troubleshooting like changing the wifi channels? I found with my ancient Archer D9, switching channels away from other nearby ones, could make a surprising difference.

        • Avoid cheap Chinese crap.
These might improve your situation a little, but i'm running a single Ubiquity UniFi AC-Pro access point inside the ceiling space in the centre of my house.
I get 600-800Mbit of real world throughput from the NAS to my 4 year old Thinkpad.

Consumer grade WiFi is a sad joke when the Ubiquity stuff is so cheap.

    • Does the issue remain when you're close to the router? What device are you testing from? Many devices don't support 802.11ac and can't get the full potential out of Wi-Fi.

I bought this a few weeks ago. Wished I had done it sooner.

I have a medium sized two storey three bed home. I have FTTC. I’m using the provided modem (Netcomm NF18ACV). There’s about 10 devices at my place (laptops, phones, tablets, PS4).

My connections are more stable. Coverage is perfect. Setup is relatively simple. Two nodes needed to be restarted a few times before connecting. And more importantly I’ve not had one family member ask me to fix the internet!

    Hope this helps.

    • Do you have a phone plugged into the NF18ACV?

  • This or Nest? Happy to spend extra if a better product. Exetel FTTC.

    • I believe Google Nest Wifi is a better spec'ed (and more expensive) model and isn't really a fair comparison with the M5. The comparable offering would be TP-Link Deco M9 plus instead.
