[eBay Plus] Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 14" FHD 120Hz, GTX 1660Ti, Ryzen 7 4800HS, 16GB, 512GB SSD $2429 Delivered @ Futu Online eBay

Similar to this but has a FHD 120hz panel instead of QHD 60hz, which in my opinion is more suitable for the 14" size. The FHD panel is supposedly also brighter and less battery draining. Pretty rare configuration, all the Aus stock for the 1660ti and 2060 G14 models seems to be the QHD versions.

Futu are taking the piss on this "sale" how they have jacked the price.

  • +6

Big bucks for only a 1660ti…

    • Should see the pricing on the new Surface 3s then D:

    • +3

You also get the rest of the laptop

  • does amd support thunderbolt

    • +3

Initially No, but now Yes, but the vendor will have to implement that.

Intel did not previously charge royalties for Thunderbolt. Instead, vendors weren't allowed to produce Thunderbolt controller silicon, which is now freely allowed.

  • Bought the exact same laptop with 1650ti for $2k. I dont think there is that much gain for it to be worth an extra $429. Got a gaming desktop so this laptop will not be used mainly for gaming.

    • +1

Where did you get it for $2k?

      • Maybe not 120Hz

        • It'd be 120Hz. Don't think the 1650ti comes with the 1440p panel. Also the 1440p panel is more expensive anyway.

      • It was an eBay deal back in June.
It does have the 120Hz screen. 4k is wasted on a 14 inch screen.

1660 regardless of normal or Ti is useless , Nvidia has created too many low perf cards that were left over from the crypto mining time to get rid of them.
    Laptop aint worth it IMO

    • You definitely shouldn't buy it then.

    • +4

You clearly don't know what you're talking about, especially when you bring up the 1660 non ti which doesn't exist in laptops. The 1660ti is the sweet spot for performance in laptops if you don't care about ray tracing. It performs within 0-5% of the 2060 and 20-30% of the 2080 mobile chip. The higher tier chips cost a lot for not much more performance, they all get thermal and power limited.

      • I'm glad someone else understands the 16XX series is essentially just non-RT because channels and clock speeds don't matter if everything gets throttled.

Especially with max q stuff. A 2070 Max-Q is on par with a standard 2060.

  • 2060 config at this price would be much better.

Beware that browsing/video battery usage may be a bit higher on these than Intel equivalents, but where they shine is under load: you're unlikely to get more than an hour of gaming off-charger with 10th gen Intel.

    • +3

For general video/browsing use you get like twice the time off charger compared to Intel gaming laptops. The Intel H series is terribly inefficient, especially at idle/ low power use.

Battery life is like one of the reasons to go for this over other laptops, there's no other gaming laptop out there atm that gets 8 hours web browsing like this laptop gets.

      • Happy to stand corrected, I'd just found so little testing data on that aspect of battery life when I've looked around, and I know Intel have made inroads in terms of video playback power sipping due to Qualcomm's incursions into mobile computing.

From my own experience with Ryzen 3000 desktop, it's base power draw is weaker than Intel counterparts, but that could be a difference in how that's reported than a true difference.

Digging beyond the usual reviews, looks like it manages 8-10 hours, so I definitely stand corrected! No idea why so many review outlets ducked that analysis.

          There's a lot of battery testing with the G14. e.g https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-Zephyrus-G14-Ryzen-9-GeFo…

Comparing the Zephyrus G14 to it's closest intel cousin, the Zephyrus M, it gets:

          Power consumption:
          Ide min: 5.5W vs 17.6W
          Ide average: 9.3W vs 24.7W
          Idle Max: 15.8W vs 56.3W

Load is obviously less for the G14.

That gives it overall 41% better battery than the Zephyrus M (similar battery capacites)

          Reader/Idle: 1140min vs 424mins
          Web browsing: 577mins vs 268mins
          Load: 109mins vs 101mins

It just demolishes any 45W Intel part, even the laptops with giant 99.9W hour batteries like the MSI GS66 can't compete.

Intel's competitive at idle with their 15W chips, but their 45W chips aren't, those chips are based off a desktop design whereas Intels 15W chip, and all of AMD's Ryzen 4000 mobile are built for mobile first aiming for low idle power consumption etc. A totally different kettle of fish from Ryzen 3000 on desktop

          • @[Deactivated]: The G14 seems like a very good all-rounder laptop. Shame that the prices and availability here are pretty awful. The Ryzen 9 / 2060 / 120Hz model that everyone wants is basically non existent here.

            • @MassiveBongo: A lot of people with the Ryzen 9/2060/120hz model would be happy so save some money and go with the ryzen 7/1660ti.120hz model if it was available.

But I agree in general, the availability and price in Aus of this is poor.

  • Yes, Futu are price jackers when it comes to eBay sales.
But hey, they have stock of this laptop and it's scarcely available elsewhere. IIRC HN were selling a similar version for this kind of money

    • Yeah the price isn't the best, but local stock of 120hz FHD models that aren't 1650 Ti is very hard to come by

      • The SKU is for the QHD model. Better check it out.

  • Good Price or I should wait for cheaper. Anyone plz give me some suggestion. I need to get a laptop for next year

    • I doubt the G14 will get much cheaper since the model is very popular. But there might be a better selection later on, and we'll probably also be getting the G15 down the line which is less expensive but has slightly worse build quality. If you don't need it right now, probably better to wait.

  • +1

Buyer beware: this SKU is for the QHD model. Previously Scorptec also posted incorrect specs as FHD, then had to correct.

    • +1

Looks like they took down the listing and posted identical one that is WQHD instead. Probably a listing error. Mine already shipped so I guess I'll see.

  • I've been looking at this laptop for awhile now, worked out to be around 2.5k to import it from the state…the R9 / 16GB /1TB /RTX 2060 version

    • Is there a place that ships direct to Aus or is that through an agent? The G15 with R9/2060 and 240hz screen came up at around 2350 shipped at B&H when I checked, which is alright if looking for performance but the build/aesthetics are a step down from the G14 imo.

      • it wold have to be through a forwarding services.

        • I will be most likely going with HIDevolution, it seems like a easier way to do it. It is because BB doesn't ship to parcel forwarder..

          a)
Bestbuy $1450, doesnt ship to parcel forwarder, assisted purchases services costs around 10% so work out to be around $1595
Plus all handling and shipping insurance and tax total: around $1819 USD/ $2640AUD

          b) HIDevolution, $1599, it does not require forwarding, ship directly from them, free add-ons
          $100 shipping to AU, Tax $159.9 (GST). around $1859 USD/ $2699AUD

Keep in mind, HID will take much less time as no parcel forwarding is required….
I will properly end up go with HID.

  • Not what I'm after but I spotted this and thought I'd mention it if someone is interested. If your local Officeworks has them in stock you could go price beat.
