seems like people are having a lot of trouble with this drive

    http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Other-External-products/Seagate…

    • I don't need USB 3.0…is there a better deal for a 2TB USB 2.0 external HDD?

    • Ahh… I recently upgraded to 64bit Win 7 and my computer started crashing when left unattended for 1hr+. Was looking for the cause of the problem and this is probably it. Thanks for posting that. :)

    • Yeah but this was from last year ppl were having the issue..What about now? I just bought one of these from HN for $89 last week.

    • Any reports if the bug has been fixed for the batch released this year?

dont bother with seagate external.. Mine died 4 months after purchased.. Though it was the enclosure but realised its the drive..

      Warranty? lol

      • Did you use the drive outside the enclosure all the time?

      • it's got a 2 year warranty but I'm not sure why you thought the enclosure died?

        • Don't worry I thought you meant that the drive died because it was in the enclosure (extra heat) so I thought you might have removed the drive from the enclosure and used it internally.

        • 3 year limited warranty mate.

    • Was using it as an external drive with the PS3 .
Though the enclosure was overheated thus did not recognise when plugged in with USB port. So I took it out and plug it to my desktop via sata cable..and I forgot about the 2 years warranty.

  • Same deal as last time- http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51119

But not as good as the bigw deal- http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53455

The bigw deal has expired though.

  • what speed is the hdd? is it possible to rip out the hdd and shove that into your computer? or does it have electronics on it to stop you doing this?

Just noticed DSE no longer has their famous change of mind policy:

"What should I do if I have changed my mind and want to return a product?

Please choose carefully as Dick Smith does not normally accept return of goods where you have simply changed your mind."

    http://dicksmith.com.au/help/returns-policy-content

    • DSE recently revised the returns policy. IMO, this was one of the main advantages of buying from them, now they have lost this edge of other retailers. Still, maybe the high cost of processing and restocking products resulting from excessive refunds from fickle customers and scammers got to their managers!

Agreed, but it was always a double-edged sword - you always had to be careful to avoid buying 2nd-hand stock from them, since they weren't averse to simply banging taped-up returns back on the shelf.

        • Yeah, that is kinda dodgy, especially for a big, reputable retailer (which they are, really). An experience like that(receiving 2nd hand or repackaged stock) would make me take it back to the store pronto, followed up with a complaint. The product might be 'fine' but when you are paying your money you expect it to be BRAND NEW. There is also the whole psychological aspect and I'm admittedly pedantic when it comes to these things.

  • Expired now.

Apparently the floods in thailand are going to impact global HDD prices. So bargains will be few and far between for a while I think :(.

  • Damnit ! bought one last week for 99 :(

  • Price changed to $99 now :(
Was just about to buy it, too bad. Great price though… a cheap 2tb hard drive has been the reason I'm checking ozbargain 10x daily in the last couple weeks.

    • me too, been waiting for a cheap 2tb. too bad i missed this.

    • +1

Don't neg it mate, just cause you were too slow and missed out. Geez.

      • Since its expired the negative vote doesnt really matter. I guess it shows that some shoot then think later…. if that LOL

  • I got one of these the last DSE deal they had, still working as it should on my end.

  • I would rather spend $75 and buy an internal 2T hdd. The read write speed is much fast.
I have a 1.5T external hdd usb 2.0 , transfer speed is not fast enough.

  • This is a massive deal as the price of HDDs is about to rise sharply for the next 6-8 weeks due to the recent disaster in Thailand.

  • Just got mine today, bought on friday received on monday afternoon. Packaging was excellent. Compared to my two WD Elements, the drive is pretty quiet and write speeds are similar.

  • got this because recently there has been a bit of a drought on external hard drive bargains. I was hoping that 2.5" portable drives would have come crashing down in price once usb 3.0 came out but sadly that never happened. The old usb 2.0 portable drives stayed at the same prices… so I had to get this instead because at the end of the day I value the extra space more than the portability.
