Kiwis know a thing or two about getting their faces full of wool.

I ordered both the S/M and the L/XL last Friday, for my partner and I, and we got it on Monday. Please be warned that these are really short and barely clear your chin and nose for both of us, which is quite annoying as it constantly misaligns when worn. I don't recommend these based on the dimensions. It's too bad because the material is quite nice and supple on the skin.

Does the L/XL mask fit which ever of you that has the smaller head or is it still too short?

      • +1

The L/XL covers my partner‘s nose and mouth but she also says that the area by the ear loops were loose. Hope that helps.

        • Thanks. Sounds like it won’t be suitable for my wife.

I'm thinking what makes it breathable makes it ineffective, probably get you into Bunnings though.

"This product is not a medical or surgical grade mask, and isn’t PPE certified"

So it's (profanity) pointless then, as well as being overpriced?

    • No. It just means it's not certified.

      • +5

If it's not medical or surgical grade, or ppe certified, it's pointless. You'd get the same protection tieing a gym sock to your face.

        • +1

Was able to say that, it’s equivalent to putting any cloth over the mouth

        • +1

          Which is still fine

          • +3

@gimme: If you don’t want a fine. But it’s not if you want to protect yourself and others.

            • +7

@Maloo: All about context. If I go out for some exercise at a park where there's minimal contact with another person a basic face covering is fine. If I'm working in a hospital I'd want a surgical grade mask.
              It's a risk mgmt exercise.
Or I'll just wear a hazmat suit everywhere.

            • @Maloo: This is simply wrong. N95 masks are effectively sneaseguards to protect others from your germs. They don't really protect yourself as your eyes are still exposed.

          • +1

@gimme: If you don’t want a FINE this is fine

I've wondered the same thing about all these deals. Costs more than certified medical or trade hazard with no certified protections.

The Bonds one claimed 20 washes. A proper mask would probably still protect better than a new fabric mask at 20 days if not more.

Each to their own, but it seems very un-OzB to pay more for less. At least all those 50-box face masks are at the right price for the job of a basic face covering.

I just got the bonds one today and it's trash imo. Would rather pay a bit more for a decent one.

Have a look at this review from the ABC on the effectiveness of various homemade masks (different number of layers) vs a surgical grade mask.
Just because it's not medical grade, doesn't mean it's useless.

What are you taking about, this will pair perfectly with the default Melbourne uniform of a black Kathmandu jacket.

      • +3

Yeah it just needs green as the inside lining.

You'll be able to spot the kiwis wearing them… They'll be the ones with a hard on

I am always cautious with these ’washable’ antimicrobial products. How do the microbes survive the wash? I think Lorna Jane got in trouble for something similar recently.
I spray DuroKleen on my face masks/coverings to ensure they are legitimately antimicrobial.

I highly recommend the cotton on foundation mask for $9.95.

They are very light adjustable straps, reusable, and double graded masks.

    • +3

Washing the cottonon masks will ruin the n90 filter though. the filters are made with an electrostatic charge to catch microbes and washing them will remove this charge.

So, yes - it's cheaper than the kathmandu one, but not as cheap as a sock or a scarf over your mouth. Points for style though.

no it won't, they can be recharged through rubbing, and have both mechanical as well as electrostatic filtration

It's like tongue kissing a sheep.

Speaking from experience? I think we've found the Kiwi.

      • Shhhhhhhhhhhhhb

    • I hope it was consensual.

      • sheep have less rights than you'd expect.

        • Baaaaaa means no!!

  • I would buy kathmandu products only if they are made in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Does anyone else find some Merino wool products itchy as hell? Can't imagine having this on my face.

  • L/XL appears to be back in stock.
