  • Good unit's. Pump's out the heat in winter.

This or the MHI 7.1kw bronte (https://www.bunnings.com.au/mitsubishi-bronte-7-1kw-reverse-…)?
Been waiting on a MHI cashback, but this unit appears to run a bit more efficiently according to OPs link.

  • Anyone knows generally how much is the installation fee for such unit? And if they would do it cheaper if we install 2 in 1 go? Wanted to get a 2.1 and 7.1. Thanks

    • Really depends on a number of factors, you’ll need the units installed and depending on where they are going if they have to drill through the back of a wall or into a ceiling, you’ll also need an electrician to wire them into the mains. Yes they would do it cheaper if you wanted 2 in 1 go as apposed to 2 separately, same as any tradie. If they are already there and you are giving them more work then it’s less hassle for them to pack up and go to another job, no travel time etc

      • Thank you for the reply!

      • +1

The installer will do the electricals. Of course they'll need to drill through the wall.

This response isn't too helpful. It'll depend on whether you're doing back to back install, or on a wall. Whether you need a condensate pump. How long the run is. Etc

        • Looking to install a split in a small closeable passage way with 2 small bedrooms running off it (ie. Some cooling for 2 rooms with one unit). I see you mentioned a condensate pump (guess a simple hose won't work as the head unit is below the ceiling line). Condensate pumps expensive? Anything to avoid? Cheers.

          • @tunzafun001: Not initially too expensive. But they're noisy and you'll be replacing it every few years. Try to avoid if you can.

          • @tunzafun001: Definitely would avoid one if you're installing it for bedroom use, I would hate to listen to one of them while sleeping.

Maybe you could get an in-ceiling unit instead of a wall mounted one, that probably wouldn't need a condensate pump since the unit is higher?

    • Expect to install it for $650 - $750 back to back installation on concrete slabs with 25 amp power supply up to 20 meters

  • Can anyone tell how much installation cost i am looking at if i have to get the existing carrier aircon replaced

    • Depends if the electrical circuit needs to be upgraded, if the old aircon uses old gas lines can be reused or if they have to run new ones.

It sometimes ends up being more than a new install if they have to completely decommission the old one.

      • What am i looking at if they have to re-run the gas pipes. I am 100%sure that circuit doesn't need an upgrade.

        • +2

No fridgey should be re-using old pipes.

    • Basic install i vaguely recall was about $500 i think but it can vary on type and quality of install. We had it put on a new circuit, double brick etc. A swap out would likely be less.

      • $500 sounds like a good deal.

Harvey Norman had a special price of $549 for basic installation of the 2.5kW unit and $649 for units up to 8kW (ended today). Wall bracket costed an extra $140.

Good guys quoted $800 - $850 for basic install.

        • We bought and organised install separately ourselves. Cut out the middlemen. Only a 2.5kw for bedroom.

        • Yeah shop around for a good deal, I paid $650 for my wall mounted install a few weeks ago in Vic - only thing he didn't include was the circuit breaker (already had one installed).

The first quite I got was like $1000 I think?

cash back is finishing by monday

    • Yep. My understanding is that we have to purchase by Mon 3/8 and have until 30/9 to claim cashback.

  • Decent deal if you don't need any other appliances. I got this unit in the GG's sale last weekend for $1798 + $200 cash back + $200 GG egift card. So I paid $100 more upfront but got an extra $100 in gift cards.

    • Why didn't you post the deal here?

    https://blitzair.com.au/

Brand new 7.1kw systems manufactured by them and installed for $1700. Comes with 5 year warranty and you can check them out.

Declaration: I have no ties with this company.

    • A 7.1kw unit installed for $1700. Sounds reliable, energy efficient and well installed.

  • Would this unit fit in a suv?

    • +3

Doesn't it already have heating and aircon?

    • I just bought the 5kw unit, which is the same size as the 7.1kW, and was told by the sales rep that it’d fit in a SUV.

The 7.1kW (ASTG24KMTC) product specs can be found here on page 13.

      280 x 980 x 240mm (indoor unit) - 12.5kg
      716 x 820 x 315mm (outdoor unit) - 42.0kg

Alot of people asking about installation pricing, I install these for a living. couple of things people don't usually think about when it comes to "extras".
    - Your switchboard needs to be compliant to today's regs.
    - back to back installs are, with 3m copper/capping. (Usually $50-$80 additional per metre)
    - outdoor unit wall brackets are usually extra
    - if the unit is on an internal wall and pipes need to go through the ceiling youll be looking at additional labour and materials.

Make sure when you get these installed that the installer is doing it properly with the appropriate tests to prevent gas leaks (nitrogen pressure test). Then they should vac the unit out with a pump.

    Hope this helps

    • I think my mains switchboard is not compliant. How much extra charge is it to replace it?

      • +1

An upgrade is usually between the $600-$1000, Depending on the amount of circuits.

It's good to replace the board if its an old ceramic pull-out style fuseboard, but if youre a bit strapped for cash you can avoid the board upgrade by getting a mainswitch circuit breaker installed. The old switches are purely isolation switches so they won't trip of there is too much current being drawn through the mains.
        This usually costs around 150-250

        • How do u find out if your switchboard is compliant? I have existing split system in one of the unit in Sydney which needs replacing. Currently existing unit has standard plug with cord but i have been advised new one cannot work like that. can you confirm. If it does not work with standard plug, then entire wiring the switchboard connection has to happen again ? I haven't checked but thought generally 'AC' will be a separate on/off switch in power board. Also in our case there is hole near the inside unit which gets the pipe outside alongside wall and runs against the all and compressor sits in balcony. with that arrangement means higher installation costs?

          • @s0805: From what I can tell that should be fine, but if the indoor unit and outdoor hnit aren't on the same wall it sounds like the piping may be ran internally (in the wall cavity).
also you could get charged a decommission fee for disconnecting the existing aircon.

They can't use the existing power point next to the indoor unit, but they can utilise that circuit. Just means they'll need to extend the cable from there to the outdoor unit.

            • @Aleks31: thanks from what I know pipes are not running through wall cavity but alongside the outer wall to the other end of line (i.e. compressor). Is there generally charge for disposal? Or is it something you can chuck on the hard rubbish collection. Of course, gas pipes needs to be cleaned…

              • @s0805: Also, i wonder how samsung as brand compare to fujitsu….

                https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SAMSUNG-BORACAY-5-0KW-SPLIT-AIR-…

                • @s0805: As for the Samsung, ive only installed one, dont have much feedback on the unit itself.

              • +1

@s0805: Depends on the type of pipes some pipes hold less pressure than others and will need to be replaced. They do usually charge for disposal as they gas needs to be collected and disposed of correctly

  • Can this be used as a multisplit airconditioner if I buy an extra air handler?

    • Nope

  • Just picked this up for $1597 at Good Guys Belconnen ACT. Making it an even better deal

    • How did u get the price?
