Reading through comments seems a lot of confused people who've just been told they "need plex" or some "app" on a NAS. Just seems a lot talking about getting features that doesn't seem people actually need or doesn't make sense that they need..
To be clear, if you have a decent TV and are wanting to watch in the best quality, you want to be downloading 4k or at least 1080p REMUX - this is the original Blu Ray just contained in MKV no changes made to the quality. You then store this data on a NAS and use media player of your choice to playback via your Receiver + TV. Best would be a media player that supports bitsteaming so audio is then decoded by your receiver (all via HDMI).
If you have downloaded a movie and stored within your home network you are then not "streaming over internet" or anything related to internet. You do not need to transcode or do anything to reduced the quality of media playing back.
If you are using wifi - do anything you can to run cables at least from your NAS to modem/router/switch and media player back to modem/router/switch.
