Disclaimer: I’m not technically affiliated with Sofirn, but have had dealings with them in the past by reviewing some of their lights - they have passed this information on to me to send to anywhere/one that I think it might be useful to; my understanding is that the codes expire at the end of the month. I've hit the "Associated" button anyway, just to be as open as I can.

Sofirn now have stock in AmazonAU warehouses - no more long waiting times from China at the mercy of international shipping!

For those not in the know, Sofirn make some pretty great flashlights/torches (I hate that I use the US word, but it's engrained in my head due to being in that community now) at quite reasonable prices.

The codes below give 15% off the listed price on AmazonAU - the SP36 kit is cheaper here, shipped locally, than it is on AliExpress. The SP32A is slightly more expensive, but that’s offset by getting your hands on it far sooner along with Amazon’s storefront and policies.

The models they have available with discount are:

SP36 Kit - includes SP36, 3x18650 to suit
* Andúril version ($67.99): PNZMMA3Q SOLD OUT
* NarsilM version ($81.99 $69.69): CD2IZBYU

SP32A Kit - Includes SP32A v2.0, 18650, charger ($37.39): KV3JRVJQ SOLD OUT

I’ve had an SP36 with Andúril for some time now, and have reviewed it - it’s great, and the LH351Ds in it give fantastic colour rendering. The NarsilM version has a slightly different UI but fairly similar, and is a slightly "cooler" white, but has higher lumen output.

I’m told other models of theirs are en route to AmazonAU warehouses at the moment (SP40, SP31 v2.0, C8F, SD05), and I’ll post up codes for those lights when I receive them.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2020.

Not a problem! Happy to share any knowledge I can, and I'll try to tone it back to be less technical. :)

  • Says it 5000k… would prefer 3000k. Love the flashlight deals though.

    • +1

      There's 2700K and 4000K SP36, but only on sofirnlight.com.

  • @oweban

Hey, thanks for chucking up all the other info in the comments. IF these are flooders, what would you recommend for a thrower?

    • +1

Ooh. Sofirn don't have any throwers on AmazonAU, unfortunately. They've got the C8G and C8A elsewhere, though. That said, I don't think they're USB-charging though, unless that's not a problem for you.

      • +3

Not set either way. Have a few old torches around and don't use them that much but I like the idea of having a good quality one for when you do need it/getting one as a present. USB charging is definitely a plus now days.

Thanks for the quick response. I know you've said you're only slightly affiliated but you're really going above and beyond and I'm sure everyone else on here appreciates it as much as I do.

        • +3

Not a problem at all! That said, I'm not one to talk about "a few torches" - I don't have a problem at all, and I totally don't have another bunch on the way.

          • @oweban: That is impressive.
How many actually get used at least once a month.

My relatively small collection of 5 are only getting used at the moment as we are taking the dogs for walks at night

            • @thorpef1: Errr… not many of them. I've got a D4V2 and FW3A on me every day, though.

              Oh well!

          • @oweban: There's one for every occasion, https://i.imgur.com/e0qNysH.jpg

            The top left corner obscures my 3rd 2x26650 - S70S, L6 & SP70

            • @Sillen: Please tell me you got sw45ks in that ROT66.

              • @oweban: Yes, got it in August 2018. LOVE the tint. One of my kids wanted to take it to school camp. No way!

                • @Sillen: Good god no. I've still got 11 D200 and 1 D220… Gotta start being picky about what they go in. I've got the D220s in my D4v2 (65% FET build) :D

        • +1

Exactly the same situation for me and I second your comments about the OP - really helpful and appreciated!

    • If you want something cheap but decent, check out the Convoy C8+ from Aliexpress or Banggood. They go on special fairly regularly and are a pretty impressive thrower.

  • Seems fairly similar to the BLF Q8, but I'll certainly keep an eye out for any future thrower deals

    • Indeed - basically Q8 with three cells instead of four, and inbuilt charging. Also with lovely LH351Ds in there for high CRI :D

    • +1

I can officially claim the Q8 is brighter than my car headlights. Used it in the outback and a few koala’s dropped outta the trees

      • Haha, film that and chuck it on YouTube lol, or send it to dash cams Australia.

  • Are there plans for the SP33 v3.0

Australia would be better then AliExpress.

    • Not that I've heard yet, unfortunately. I can pass on any requests, but I can't guarantee there'll be any movement on it.

  • Thanks was after a flashlight similar to klarus g30 and within a reasonable price range

  • +3

    Do I need it? No.
Do I want it? Yes! Thx OP! 👍

    • Impulse control is for the weak :P

  • OP I’m keen for a Sofirn C8F if you can score a discount code for us? Cheers 😉

    • No probs, I'll ask! It may be in that next set of codes I post though; I won't push them too hard :)

      • Cheers buddy👍

  • SP32A is sold out now

    • Will update the post, thanks. Horrible traffic home.

  • How do these compare to Thorfire?

I bought a bunch of Thorfire and Convoy 18560 torches and they all died a year later.

    What's the warranty on these?

    • Stop comparing 'brands'. They slap all manner of names on whatever torch they make cos they share factories, do model/brand crossovers and I'm sure other tricks. Scrutinise the individual model of torch, not the brand.

That said I have a 7 year old convoy thats still going so 'it died' isn't much to go on.

  • Any chance they might have IF25A in their AU store?

    • +1

      I'll ask if they're considering it :)

  • Just out of curiosity, what does everyone use these super bright flashlights for?

I went on a flashlight spree a few years ago (Thanks OZB lol), and they've been sitting in my drawer for the past 3-5 years. Took them camping a few times, but when I turn them off, I'm blind, so I just take a red light now

    • For when you absolutely positively have to light up every …thing in sight :) You're right, it wrecks night vision, but at least they're adjustable. The super high modes are definitely for the "wow" factor.

    • I take my torches for a walk at night. Sometimes I bring to the dog as well.

    • I leave mine on my desk next to bed. It has an always on light (when it's off and not in use) so you can find it in the dark.

I take it camping and for walks.

  • Andúril version is sold out

      Thanks, will update.

  • Any chance for a discount on this model?

Coming early next week at this stage; will put up another post.

      • Thanks, will keep an eye out.

  • The SP36 is showing as $81.99 now. Looks like the deal's over.

    • +1

That'll be the NarsilM version; with code it's down to $69.69.

      • +1

        Ah right.

One other query; is the seller supposed to show up as "shenzhenshi jinbakeji youxiangongsi - qidong yang" and not Sofirn-au on the delivery options page of the checkout?

        • +2

From memory, yep. It's an odd one, and I really don't know why… I had that question written in a draft to them, but I'll definitely send that now that you've reminded me; appreciate it.

          • @oweban: Cheers for the prompt replies. Grabbed an SP36 and I'm looking forward to a deal on the SP31 and C8F.

            • @Gnostikos: Awesome; I've asked for the codes for them, and will post up early next week. I don't want to post too often too fast; I had a good read of the rules and don't want to bend them.

  • +1

I got BLF A6 and Convoy S2 for my edc and Astrolux FT03 for a thrower (or flooder not sure if use the right term). Keen to try SP36 to add into collection

    • Which emitter did you get on the FT03? They're generally a thrower due to the reflector size, but the XHP50.2 gives a much wider beam; I'd still call it a thrower though.

Some good lights you've got there though, for sure. I think this'll definitely tell Sofirn they need to send some more lights down this way!

      • I think it is SST-40W. wasn't really sure the difference btw mine and XHP50.2 though. But it already bright enough that my neighbour starts to think I own a bat signal lol.

        • The SST40 is more throwy :) The "beam" on the XHP50.2 version is a a bit wider, and doesn't reach out quite as far, but for the price, they're bloody good.

My neighbours have wondered what's happening when I light the GT90 up… oops.

          • @oweban: put a green light filter on and now you are one of those alien's abductee :O

  • After reading all these comments was pretty keen to get my hands on one. Will hold off for the Anduril variant though.

    • +1

Fingers crossed more stock of it ships out to AU soon.

  • I like that you preferred to call them a torch but then used the word flashlight in the title. As this isn't a "flashlight" community site, why not call it a torch?

    • Force of habit, I think, then never went back to fix it. You make a good point, though. That said, given the first comment has made a pun on the title, it'd probably be poor form to change it now (next time!).

  • Any deals on just a 18650 torch with over discharge protection? I've got a few samsung cells pulled from a cordless tool battery and a LiitoKala 402 to charge already. Probably looking for something that performs like the Thorfire Q8 (extra points if will work with "nipple-less" type 18650 cells). Tbh really just looking for a beastly torch for the sake of it haha

    Thanks in Advance!

    • Unfortunately there's not a lot of flat-top compatible multi-cell monsters out there. Single cell hotrods though, there's a few - check this list out: https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/hermh9/arbitrar…

      • Thanks!

I'm also happy to do some mods to the cells to get them to work if there's a torch that'll fit the bill?

        • +2

I think the big issue is that single cell hotrods will heat up fast due to small thermal mass. But if you're absolutely intent on this, and know the risks going in, there's not much better than the Emisar D4v2, with XPL HI 5000K.

          https://intl-outdoor.com/emisar-d4v2-high-power-led-flashlig…

Other options I'd suggest is raised ring, magnetic tailcap, stainless steel bezel, and clip. Keep in mind that's USD, and shipped from China; those options take it all to 60USD.

          https://i.imgur.com/l5WPUF4.jpg

Sofirn have an IF25A that's similar, but at a more price-conscious point; different emitters though.

          • @oweban: Thanks for the great replies!

Any multi-cell monsters though? I've got like 10 cells so hoping to do something with them haha

            • @alt: Hmmm, I'll have to have a think about it. Most of the multi-cell monsters are button-top; that said, I got flat tops working in my MF01 (not MF01s) even though it's not designed for it, but I wouldn't recommend that; the UI is garbage.

There's also things like the Thrunite TN42, but price starts getting way up there.

The other way to do it (AND I DID NOT RECOMMEND THIS) is to put solder "blobs" on your cells to make them button top - that means you can use them in something like a BLF/Sofirn Q8, or MF01S, or Emisar D18… but again, it's not a super great idea, as heating up the cells to make the solder stick to it is a very fine line between "solder is sticking" and "cell is venting".

              • @oweban: Hmm yeah preferably something under or around $100 (but as always on ozb – the cheaper the better)

The non-recommended method is what I meant when I said I was happy to try and mod my cells hahaha
Do you think it might be safer/easier to modify the torch itself instead? i.e. solder a blob or spring-like extension to the battery contacts?

                • @alt: Depends how handy you're feeling, I guess - but with things like the SP36 and the Q8, it's more about the way the cells contact the driver:

                  https://i.imgur.com/HwBzp8T.jpg

Basically the "buttons" press against that inner ring, so when you tighten the cap, they stay in contact.

If you're happy to give modding the cells ago, then just take it slow and careful :)

                  • @oweban: Ah I see, but I guess if I can find a way to 'raise' that ring…

Will do haha wouldn't want a combusting cell in my hands

Were you able to come up with any multicell monster recommendations in the sub $100 range with discharge protection?

                    Thanks!

                    • +1

@alt: It's only single emitter, but a big one at that; take a look at this.

Other than that… Hmm. I can't think of anything with battery carriers that is under $100, sorry :(

                      • @oweban: Looks pretty good just based on the specifications that I understand haha

No worries, I'm sure if there was anything else it would have to be very very obscure if you don't know about it ;)
                        Thanks for the recommendation!

                        • @alt: No probs! Just trying to help where I can. Or, sucker other people into this hobby so I don’t feel so weird about it.

  • Can anyone recommend me a small real palm size torch with good brightness with flood light simple to use

  • Hope they can get the Andúril version of SP36 back to stock soon, and with such good deal. Or I have no choice but to buy from other retailers. I need one with neutral white for night hiking and camping. Sad to see it's gone.

    • It sounds like they're sending more this way, so that's a good thing - hopefully it doesn't take too long!

      • Thx for the reply! If so I'd snatch one without hesitation.

  • what is the waterproofing on these like? Looking for something that'll be economical as a dive torch (freedive, nothing super deep)

    • +2

I definitely wouldn't recommend diving with any of these. The SD05 is diving rated, though - I should have a code for this some time next week.

  • Great thread and information, good to see the SP36 on it' way. I would like to get hold of the SP32A if available or the SP33.

    • My contact has mentioned sending the SP33v3, will post more information when i know more :)

  • Hi guys, I have accidentally set my torch narsil sp36 in mode that only allows torch on when I press and hold the button. As soon I let go it turns off. How can I get out of it? Thank you

    • Loosen the battery tube so it doesn’t turn on (do a full rotation or so), then tighten it again - see if that works for you :)

      • Thank you 😊 that worked
