      this won't work.

You'd have to either buy a gaming headset, or a USB BT dongle that is confirmed to work. That would mean your XM4 connects to the dongle, not the PS4. There is usually quality loss when this happens.

From an audio enthusiast POV, all gaming headsets I have tried are lacking in either AQ or comfort or both.

      • +1

        100%
Roll your own with a good comfy pair of headphones and a modmic (or one of the alternatives like the V-Moda BoomPro). Works a treat.

  • QC35ii are crazy comfy, but I wish they had the tech of Sony's

  • great post, however there doesn't seem a lot of reason to upgrade from the xm3

  • +1

Best purchase I made in 2019.

    • is there a joke I'm missing here

  • It's been the same design since the xm2s. Surely they can make something better looking.

    • Probably can't be bothered retooling the manufacturing when these are so popular already

    • +2

I think the black looks pretty great

    • Why would you change the style. Look at the Bose QC35s. How old are they and still selling. Sony did change the texture on the cups from 2 to 3. The bronze copper accents are the in colour at moment.

  • +1

When I upgraded to 4.5.2 firmware On my xm3s the noise cancelling got considerably worse. I tried going back to older firmware through links I found but didn't work. Before that the xm3s were perfect if you used a custom eq.

  • +1

ill wait for these to get to $299 next year

  • Will be between $310 - $350 by Christmas. Hold on for the sale.

  • +1

Have any of you got the Xm3's to work with an Xbox, with the mic working? It works as a speaker fine

  • +9

    Hi guys,

This morning I called jbhifi in Geelong and asked over the phone for sale price of $495.00. Immediately the sales guy said yes. So I have them now. Tried the hands free calling in my noisy 4x4. Happy to report, super clear from daughter, which was not the case with wonderful my M3 headset. Probably not a bargain but in my hands immediately.

    • Heya @zoomzoomzoom, is there any chance of posting the receipt please so that I can take it to my local JB? One store refused my enquiry and so I am hoping that an actual JB receipt might sway them. Thx in advance. :-)

  • Anywhere sells genuine XM4's thicker paddings? Are they compatible to XM3's?

  • this only works for ebay plus?

  • +3

For those keen on knowing the difference in call quality (my main reason for holding off on the XM3s), there's a good comparison between the two here: https://youtu.be/PuQ0Av2jZ_U?t=189

    I'm impressed.

    • Check its LiPo battery, it is the most likely component to fail.

    • +2

I have two of them, they both work fine after almost 2 weeks (bought a week after launch for $350). Just because yours broke out of warranty is not enough reason to neg a $50 off deal for the new model at launch week.
I agree that these are probably not worth almost $500 when you can find a XM3 for around $150 less. But some people may prefer to get the newer model or buy stuff at launch, so a 10% off deal IMO is still OzB worthy.

      • -1

Goes to show how brainless the community is then. $150 more than the XM3 just for them to fix the call quality which should have been good to begin with.

The inconsistency of OzB is amazing, everyone willing to criticize deals, yet you neg a "deal" for $50 off something that is overpriced by 3 times that and it gets taken away.

        "OzTokenamountoffofoverinflatedRRPs".

  • does the XM3 have buzzing sound on low volume?

    • No with ANC off
Yes with ANC on, but not a buzzing sound more like white noise

  • +2

Here is a comparison video between Phone Call Quality, and every other feature between the XM3 vs XM4-

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuQ0Av2jZ_U

Looking forward to getting the XM4 when the price comes down a bit.

    • Problem is all headphones cannot use two-way (duplex) audio over bluetooth… yet. The sound quality when using a mic is changed from Stereo to MONO, for the mic and the headphones.

This is a good read, it affects not just XM3s but any 'headset' that uses bluetooth only. (Alternative is to use 2.4G wireless for audio and Bluetooth for audio (over aptX or AAC). Another alternative is to buy a MODMIC Wireless and only use the headphones for ANC + Stereo sound, with the modmic having its own aptX-LL channel for recording/mic.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/sony/comments/fqf71z/wh1000xm3_can_…

GL HF, hopefully manufacturer's get off their lazy asses and stop using bluetooth classic 20years post release.

The biggest issue now is XM4's don't offer aptX so using them on a PC will sound horrible. They will default to SBC as last I recall AAC codec isnt supported on windows 10. You can buy an AAC transmitter but itll suffer from severe delay.

  • +1

Damn, no more black available. Anyone who has silver xm3s comment on how they like the silver ones?

  • Have the XM2's and love them - can't wait for the price to drop for these bad boys and I'll pick myself up a new pair.

  • +3

Poor student here, still happy with taotronics BH085.. someday.. someday.. when Sony wx1000qdewnnafnxm6445 release..

  • Where does one wear such typically large cans?

    • +4

      Typically, on your head.

      • Instructions unclear. Tried to wear it as a belt. Now I got a broken headphone.

      • 👍

  • I bought the MDR-1000X back when it released and had to return it because of how warm my ears got. Does anyone know if they have improved in this regard?

    • +9

Yes, the new one comes with an aircon preinstalled.

      • I ask because some earcup paddings breathe easier than others. Its been a common complaint with the Sony headphones for a while now.

    • +2

      1000X
      XM3
Scroll down for 'breathability', no difference.

XM4 earpads apparently offer some extra room, and sporting somewhat thinner and softer foam. Testing will ultimately show some difference, in one direction or the other…

Stuffs-up noise-cancelling, but you can always swivel earcups to let ears cool a little.
It does work, though just to a degree °🙄°

      • +3

Thank you very much for the non-sarcastic answer to a legitimate question. Appreciated!

  • Only Silver still in stock

  • Can’t believe people actually pay these prices for headphones, think you must be earning too much, Maybe $250 on special would be about my max.

Maybe I’m getting too old also lol..

    • +2

Imagine if we all wanted the same thing at the same price :)

  • I have the first generation Sony MDR 1000X. They have been fantastic. Finding it very tempting. I don't really them, but my OZ bargain demon is whispering incessantly in my ear "it's a bargain, don't miss out.." the FOMO is getting stronger!

  • Would be awesome is Sony stole the Surface 2 Headphone Dials Design, that would make these perfect

  • +1

I've listened to the Bose 700 and they don't have that Bose sound signature and are closer to the XM3 - if call quality (anywhere, esp outdoors) is a must, then go the Bose.

XM3 have better ANC, but have design issues with cracking (seems they have never fixed this from gen 1)

  • -2

    $500 for headphones. That's half a grand!

You can get an ok AMD Rizen laptop for $300 more. What technology can cost this much?

    • +1

Except that, one would find it uncomfortable wearing the Ryzen laptop over their ears. And I don't know how you manage to wear the laptop over your ears, I don't think others would be able to do it. I guess Ryzen might have something to do with it, as you have hinted.

      • -1

Instructions unclear. Ended up with ryzen laptop for a hat.

  • +2

Called JB hifi and a confirm they can price match. I have an extra 5% off from work, so total price is $470 :)

    • what did you ask for/ say in particular? I think I'll give this a crack too.

      • +2

I asked if they can price match it and they agreed, and they send you an invoice link. I should have said if they can beat it haha

        • sweet thanks, I'll give them a ring tomorrow (assuming this deal is still active/ stock available)

          • +2

@jatin.lad: I managed to buy a pair from JB for $419 ! haha

            • @N21212: How did you manage this?

              • @MrFizz: They told me I can use my egift voucher on the new Jb direct page with the basket code, but it doens't work..So I complained to the manager and he dropped it down to this price for me.

                • +1

@N21212: Right, not something repeatable for others.

                • @N21212: So you bought jb giftcards for 10% off? Not bad.

                  • +2

@ChillBro: My mate was able to price match it and then JB told him that the stock went on back-order (2 weeks wait) and they reduced his price to $400. Very lucky! I can share my order number if you like.

                    • @N21212: damn that's awesome but it's all good, I'm happy waiting until the price drops a bit. Thanks though!

                      • +1

@ChillBro: nps :) I'm sure it'll drop at Black Friday.

                    • @N21212: If you don’t mind, can I have the order number try to price match

                      • @rock77: Same please

                        • +2

                          @MrFizz: Order number: JBD-KYNY3Q

                          • @N21212: cheers

                          • +7

@N21212: I owe you an apology. I was very confident you were full of sh#t, but I called my local JB HiFi, told them "there is some guy online who says he paid $419 at JB, any chance you will do it for that price?".

                            They said yes!

                            Sorry I doubted you!

                            • +2

                              @MrFizz: Kudos for the humility.

                              • @bxpressiv: Try might luck calling my local store, would not price match, going to wait abit longer to get these headphones, good sign the price is all ready dropping

                            • +1

@MrFizz: No worries mate. Glad you were able to price match it. Enjoy the headphones.

                            • +1

@MrFizz: any chance i could grab the receipt number (bottom of receipt) might try my luck as warun ponds is nearby :) :) :)

                              • @tuvl: From my experience there yesterday the receipt number was irrelevant and when I mentioned there is the order number JBD-KYNY3Q listed by N21212 above she disregarded it straight away and just said she was going to ask the manager who then approved it.

                                • +1

@MrFizz: Can confirm jb price matched to $420. I called a store yesterday and the salesperson said no way but I just tried a different store and the guy put the discount through no questions (didn't need any invoice number). Thanks ozbargainers, super keen for these!

                                  • @bloum: Would you mind sharing your invoice please? I haven't been so lucky. Called 4 stores so far. Thanks

                                    • +1

@polstralian: I'm in Melbourne so it was click and collect, not sure if location makes a difference. My order number was: JBD-M8XMCV. Chaddy store

                    • @N21212: Do you have the actual invoice/receipt for the order?

        • +2

OMG, I have emailed JB-Hifi to price match quoted the invoice number etc, and they agreed at $419. Thanks OzBargain community!

          "Hi XXXX,

          Thanks for your email.

Once your order is placed, send through your order number and we can refund the difference.

          Kind regards"

I have collected it just now and waiting for refund of the difference, finger crossed, I am thinking not to open it until the refund shows up lol.

          • @OZGE: Sounds great mate. Would you mind to share your invoice number?

            • @HelixD: Sure the Invoice number is: JB-4363021. It was online click & collect, I was dealing with Ryan & Kellie at the customer service centre too. Good luck!

              • @OZGE: The price in the invoice shows rrp or $419?

                • @HelixD: My Invoice show rrp, then they will refund the difference.

Try Quoted the invoice from @21212 : JBD-KYNY3Q. and email them the link from @MrFizz which show his receipt.

                  Hope it helps

          • @OZGE: What invoice number did you quote if I may ask? Thank you.

            • +1

@polstralian: Quoted the invoice from @21212 : JBD-KYNY3Q. and email them the link from @MrFizz which show his receipt.

For me I have to buy it then they will arrange credit back the difference.

              • +1

                @OZGE: Thank you :-)

              • +1

@OZGE: I got all so excited yesterday and eventually managed to get the headphones for $419 C&C (+ a pair for my partner). However only today I watched a few more reviews and I am really disappointed with the quality of the mic. I was expecting better. The Bose 700 are still outperforming the new M4s, however I am not going back to Bose (way too many issues with multi device pairing and sound stuttering). All in all, I guess I will not be collecting the headphones but thank you for your help with the invoice.

                • @polstralian: No worries, are you paying RRP then credit back as well?

I guess each headphone have their pros & cons, I heard the Sony's NC and audio are much better than Bose's. But Bose 700 have better mic quality.

For me personally I dont use the mic alot, so it is ok with me.

I find the Noise cancelling in these XM4 are exceptionally good! and the take it off to pause and turn off itself automatically is good feature. It will be best when we can use these to travel again.

                  • @OZGE: For us the mic is important as we want to use them for work.

No, I got a link sent to my phone with the discounted price. Sort of a personalised order which I then finalised and paid for choosing C&C.

                  • @OZGE: Did you manage to get refund of the difference? I collected the headphone and thinking of open it or wait.

                    • @jerry387: I cant resist and opened them already lol.

I took their word for it, they advised it will take following timeframe to proceed the refund:

For Credit Card: Please allow between 3-5 business days to see this back in your account.
For PayPal: Please allow 1-3 business days to receive the refund back into your account.
For Gift Card: Please allow 1-2 business days for this to arrive via email.

Let us know how you like the new XM4 too.

                • +1

@polstralian: The mic is fine for me. It's clear and no muffling sounds.

    • +2

At this point, I feel a bit bad for anyone who jumped on the deal from OP and didn't read through the comments and make it here!

  • I don't see Virtual Surround option anymore on XM4, on XM3 there's an option to change the surround settings from the Headphone apps.

Anyone who owns XM4 feels like the bass better on XM3?

  • Who is paying 500 bucks for headphones at the moment?

    • +1

people who are high on covid.-19.

  • +2

JB on oxford st in Sydney priced match this too

    • I was gonna PM you but you don't have it enabled but I was wondering if you can take a photo of your invoice please? Hoping to price match it from the same store.

    • I would appreciate that too if you could! Cheers James

  • +3

Rang my local JB, he said they couldn't match the employer partnership discount, but he said he could do $409 so I said deal and just picked them up 15min before close.

    • Hey do you mind pm-ing me your invoice number? Cheers :)

    • Me too please if you could!

      Cheers
      James
