Is it good for nasal polyps that keep coming and going, time to time ?

    • +4

Exactly what I used it for previously: dust, seasonal allergies

    • It is what my sinus surgeon told me years ago?

    • +3

I have used this for around 9 months now, it won't make the polyp go away but it will still help reduce inflammation of the polyp (which is the really annoying part) from allergies.

    • +1

Same as everyone else..ENT told me I was wise to opt to use this as needed as opposed to surgery. These days I use it very rarely as the polyps have diminished significantly, so I guess the ENT was right.

      • is there any thing else you did along with this ? Was it a permanent polyp or on&off without any reason ?
I apply Mustard Oil sometimes with cotton buds while going to sleep, it helps alot to wakeup fresh as air passage remains lubricated for better passage of air, while sleeping.

        • ENT specialists' may recommend regular douching of your nasal cavaities with FLO kit to clean out sinus'.
Amazing how much better this can make things if you have allergies.
          After the douche use Nasonex.
I have seen sesame oil listed as a lubricant in nasal cavity solutions.
Chest rub can also open up the sinus' and using a vaporiser seasonally may also help.

      • I had the surgery as mine were really bad and they had to keep giving me steroids to make them go down. Although I did get pretty good at not aggravating them by the time my surgery was due. They also did some procedure to expand my nasal passage at the same time.

I remember right before I went under they told me I would need two weeks off work at least. I remember freaking out since I was in the middle of a huge project and couldn't take the time off. Lucky I wasn't badly impacted and was back at work in 2 days.

But now I can breath so much better. I never knew I had issues to be honest.

Still cheaper than the $22.99 1x 140-spray comparison at CWH

      • +1

I swear I see these in twin packs marked down pretty frequently for like 25 dollars.

        • +4

I always buy the generic brand Azonaire. Exactly the same ingredients and number of doses but half the price of Nasonex. Chemist Warehouse normal price for Azonaire is $11.99. It’s always on the shelf below the Nasonex.

  • -6

but these steroid sprays can be habit forming, causing tolerance and requiring larger doses. Can be well worth while exploring other means such as grain and dairy in diet, and looking at environmental aspects such as dust, mites, pollen and mould.

    • +1

I have been using it for a long time at the advice from my GP, and he confirmed that it is not habit forming unlike the nasal decongestant. Where did you get your information?

      • -2

You've got advice from your GP - so that's great and you're obviously doing the right thing.
chyawala makes a valid point for those who would purchase and administer this without advice.

        • +7

Not sure I get you, if GP says that it is not habit forming, then it is applicable to everyone who's buying this product (not only to me)- with or without advice from GP.

          • -1

@John K: I had an ENT speak nothing but negative things for this exact product due to the tolerance it was introducing to my system. This is a medicated product that can cause serious harm if misused, and someone with what think is just a blocked nose could start using this on the regular to later find out they've jeopardized/made riskier their ability to have nasal surgery for an underlying issue.

I'm simply trying to highlight everyone is unique, and should get specific advice before self administering medicated treatments

            • +7

@MostlyRidiculous: You might be confusing this with a nasal decongestant?

My GP & ENT also gave me the same advice, Nasonex is safe to use long term.

            • -3

              @MostlyRidiculous: Agree. "Mometasone is a medium-strength corticosteroid"

I personally would not use this unless directed by medical professional. Nutribiotic nasal spray is the best I've used. The ingredients are basically saline, xylitol & grapefruit seed extract as antibiotic.

            • +1

@MostlyRidiculous: ENT piping in here. This is incorrect and supplies to decongestants not this type of Nasal steroid.

    • +2

Can be well worth while exploring other means such as grain and dairy in diet, and looking at environmental aspects such as dust, mites, pollen and mould.

I still use Nasonex to manage chronic allergies, but by far the biggest improvement was exactly that. Removing grains (well all carbs) and dairy has made a huge difference to my breathing. If I have carbs now my nose blocks again within minutes.

      • Basically bring very unhappy, I love carbs.

        • +1

Well I eat almost no carbs yet I still get bad allergies!

          Where's your God now?!

    • +5

I take this regularly and I have consulted with a respiratory specialist about the long term effects of using it. Apparently you only need to take a few weeks break after taking it for a long time as it has the tendency to thin the lining inside the nose. There is no habit forming or requiring larger doses issue. Your argument has a naturalistic bias to it, not everything natural is good for you by default, which is why you need medications to help you cope with the problems and in turn have a better lifestyle longer term. Sneezing and coughing for a long time over dust can cause more long term damage than this medication.

    • +1

"What you may be referring to is a rebound effect that can occur if you use over-the-counter nasal decongestant sprays regularly. After a few days of using this type of nasal spray, your nose may become less responsive to the effects of the medication." - mayoclinic.org

But 100% spot in in the fact that everyone should at least try other means (as you suggested) before using steroid sprays if possible.

Taking reviews with a large pinch of salt, but they definitely make me think twice before using such sprays.

    • -2

Not sure about the habit forming part, but if you do intend it to use it long term (more than ~3 months), there is an increased risk of glaucoma and cataracts as well as reduced bone mineral density. If you want a longer, more systematic read of long term effects: https://www.drugs.com/monograph/mometasone-furoate.html

  • Very limited store.

When I went to Chemist Warehouse to get Nasonex and they gave me Azonaire. It's the same price as the discounted Nasonex in this post so it might be worth investigating if you need a Nasonex equivalent.

    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/76669/azonaire-hayfe…

    • how was it for you?

      • Not currently using. Sinus infection I had is gone - but also had 2 courses of antibiotics, inhaled steam, Fess nasal wash etc so hard to tell. Used Nasonex years ago for rhinitis and it takes a while for me to see full effect. Ended up using Fess nasal wash on an as required basis instead. It works really well for me but a lot more effort than just using Nasonex - so I might give Nasonex/Azonaire another go this Spring - especially now I paid for a new supply.

        • Was that recently. Sounds like me right now…. So congested. Also good find!

          • @R3XNebular: Yeah, started as a cold with sore throat and dry cough and ended up with infected sinuses for a few weeks. All up took about a month to get over it all

    • +3

I was wondering if there was a genetic! Because stuff bayer.

      • Thanks! Maybe @jason101/pharmacysavings.com.au has a deal!

        • +1

Thanks I'm watching this deal, I am sure we can offer a generic alternative, the issue is we have to order 100's to get a reasonable price, if this deal pop's I'll have confidence to make an order and Ozb offer an order in a few weeks.

      • +1

        generic, not genetic

        • Haha yes whoops, typjng on phone is hard. r is next to t!

    • +4

Also an Amcal branded one that is $15 and was able to find some Amcals near me that were part of Small Shop $5 off $10 spend.
      https://www.amcal.com.au/amcal-mometasone-500mcg-140-doses-p…

    • Thanks TIL! Here I was thinking that the dual pack for Nasonex for $38 was cheap…

    • thanks, but instead of paying $11.99 for Azonaire, why not have them price beat Nasonex to $10.89?

      $22.99 @ Chemist Warehouse - 110% price difference = $10.89 :)

  • +7

    Yeah Azonaire is the go.
Same thing without the fancy looking green bottle and is always available at this cheap price.
It is a price buster with the same active ingredient.
I use it all the time for my chronic rhinitis.

  • good price at this time of year coming into sniffle season

  • I recently bought those nasel salt sprays, I assume this is more like the Rhinocort spray?

I have a stuffy nose nearly 75% of the day, so this would help? I could use it with FESS or similar?

    • -1

Salt spray isn't medicated. They're not very effective imo.

      • -1

Yeah, but I've heard really good feedback from people.

        It can't hurt?

        • +1

it can't hurt - but can it help?

    • Fess sell a combo pack - medifess with the saline Fess. The idea is to use the saline Fess 15mins before the medifess as it primes your nose for the corticosteroid. Medifess is identical to nasonex.

  • +3

Also can be combined with AMEX Shop Small for a further $5 off

    • found a store 15mins from home will try and get 2 on 2 amex cards

  • is it the same price if you buy it in store??

  • +2

Not to scare anyone, as I'm sure this was an absolute anomoly, but this thing permanently damaged my sense of smell back in 2014. Have never fully recovered from it

    • +1

Did you follow instructions and spray away from the septum? Not suggesting this would damage your sense of smell but most doctors would advise that spraying towards (or not away from) the septum will damage it.

  • I get hayfever really bad every year. Tried every medication under the sun before my doc said get this. Works an absolute treat!

  • I use this regularly and its helps with my really bad allergies

  • Has anyone switched over from dymista to these?

Recently got prescribed to it and it works but it ain't cheap

    • +1

Dymista is vastly superior in my opinion. You can however buy azep (intranasal antihistamine) seperately. Or use use dymista to get quicker control then flip to nasonex or another fluticasone based steroid.

    • I'm now on dymista, it works much better than nasonex for me but i only use it once in a while (it feels too strong almost) it leaves a NASTY taste that drips into your mouth

  • +2

This stuff is great, but this offer is rubbish. Max items allowed is ONE and shipping is $8.95. Waste of time.

    • Just price match with chemist warehouse

      • Where do you do this online? Or is it in-store only?

          • @tonester: Unfortunately not C&C

          • @tonester: Just looking into your price match instructions now. So purchase at full price first from CW and then request the refund based on the price match difference. Will their price match also limit to 1 purchase per person? Could be a disaster to buy 5 and only have 1 price matched 😂

      • Yeah, I don't have anything else I want to order to hit over $50 free shipping unfortunately

  • Not bad. I normally get twin packs for $38 @ Chemist Warehouse.
    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/78704/nasonex-allerg…

  • bought this to try earlier this year…why do they make the box so big (65 dose) when the size of the spray is less than half the size?
i honestly thought i was buying a much bigger bottle then was sadly disappointed…the nasonex is half the size of the similarly priced sensease
also most other sprays tell you volume by ml's whereas nasonex uses 'doses'…which makes it harder to compare like for like

    • all of them display the total number of sprays, dosage per spray, and dosage duration/frequency - knowing the number of doses is simpler and more useful than their volume, especially with different active ingredients

  • I use naseflexi… is this the same?

  • Just picked up from Chemist Warehouse at price matched rate plus an extra 10%, thanks OP!

    • How pick up? It says no C&C?
      Did you just go in-store?

      • I didn’t say click and collect mate, I said picked up, as in I went into store 😂

  • +1

While this is a good deal, you can get the generic equivalent for $11.99 all day every day at Chemist Warehouse. It's the ozbargain way…

    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/76669/azonaire-hayfe…

  • Plus delivery is $21. Chemist Warehouse is $23. Not much difference. Waste of time. Chemist Warehouse twin pack is cheaper.

  • Thanks good deal for a $100 order

Got a few other products that were on sale

  • Works wonders for me
Unblocks nose and allows to breath as normal

  • Best solution I've found so far is taking Garlic and Horseradish tablets twice a day in the lead up to Spring. It was first suggested by my old man 2 years ago after trying everything from antihistamine tablets to nasal sprays and I was surprised how much it reduced my symptoms come Spring.

Compared to suffering 30-40 days, it reduced down to 4-5 days of bad symptoms. If you haven't already, definitely start taking these tablets now before Spring hits. You can thank me later :)

  • +1

Not so long ago, Nasonex was prescription-only, non-PBS and was over $40 per unit.

  • Was a long term nasonex user but switched to dymista , used to get deadly sore throats with nasonex

You can get the same with dymista but it mainly about how you aim the nozzle I find, the wrong angle and you end with half the liquid down your throat and a metallic taste in your mouth.

Dymista ingredients costs about $50 a bottle but you can actually buy two seperate over the counter sprays that contain the same ingredients only issue is the delivery mechanism on the bottle is shocking you end up with most of it down your throat.

good luck allergic rhinitis people , i've used so much stuff but Dymista is the only thing that really works. quercertin ,garlic , horseradish, acupressure band , red light therapy, breath training , buteyko , nasal filters., immunotherapy (oralair) although fess nasal wash is somewhat helpful

    • Massive difference between this and dymista?

What else can I look into that you mentioned? I've had sinus issues since I was like 30
I basically can very rarely breathe through my nose!
      It sucks

      Thanks
