Lowest it has been in a while and stock usually depletes quickly. Should be OK to use as an urban lock, the step up is the New York series which I find ridiculous for Australia, maybe CBD only. Sold and shipped by Amazon UK.

As mentioned by nurries below, Kryptonite does not provide insurance in Australia.

  • Note, no insurance provided in Australia by Kryptonite.

    • Correct. Thanks, I'll add this to the description.

How do we contact krytonian. I would like to have a word or two with Kara.

  • Is this what batman uses to lock the batcave ?

    • -3

      No, Superman for the supercave.

      • +3

Does he want to lock himself out?

      • why would superman use it?

the step up is the New York series which I find ridiculous for Australia

In that series I would only recommend the Bronx range. I thought I'd start spreading the news…

I'll contact Kryptonite to create the "Frankston"

    Is this lockpickinglawyer certified?

    • +2

We don't have enough sophisticated bike thieves for that cert. Will compare to Bosnian bill cert 😅

    • He actually uses the chain version of the Kryptonite Evolution himself funnily enough.

    • Does such a lock exist?

  • Thanks. I was looking for one

Bigass bolt cutters will still go through a 13mm lock.

At this price point, the 17mm Onguard Brute is probably better value.

    • A big ass bolt cutter is not as portable and inconspicuous. So leaving your bike out in the open has a bit less risk during the daytime in a crowded place.

    • at the end of the day a hacksaw will go through most of the bike racks you're going to be chaining to in a matter of seconds as well.

    • +1

True, but the lock needs to be long enough to go through the wheel, frame and whatever you tie it to.

    • +2

Depends on the quality/hardness of the steel too. For the most part the average drug-addicted bike thief that wants to make a quick buck probably carries easy to conceal cutters that won't makle it through 13mm of hardened steel (lockpickinglawyer has a vid of a hydraulic bolt cutter breaking when it tries to cut the Kryptonite NY lock). if we're talking pro bike thief that carries long handled or hydraulic bolt cutters or an angle grinder then got help you. All you can do is make it difficult/time consuming for them. They might just cut the frame of your bike and pick off the components for sale.

    • No weight given on that one. Still need something to secure front wheel too. It's a trade off between weight and strength - if you want extra strength, you have to carry the extra weight. Also, onguard doesn't give internal dimensions; it looks quite a bit smaller than the kryptonite. A smaller INTERNAL loop is going to have less possibilities for locking to static fixed objects. Another good looking lock (I was researching this just last night) is the kryptonite keeper - it's cheaper and many more locking possibilities, but not as strong.

No bike lock is unbeatable. The aim is to make it hard to steal than the bike next to it 😜

  • rookie question: If you buy on Amazon UK or US - do you get charge any international fees/currency exchange? Or are you buying from Amazon AU but it's just coming from UK and/or US?

    • +2

This is Amazon AU, so no extra fees

  • Nice find but I own 3 KRYPTONITE NEW YORK FAHGETTABOUDIT U-LOCKS.

Unsure why you want us to know this.

      • +3

If you're not interested just FAHGETTABOUDIT!

      • -1

Just saying this product is extremely HARD to break from the thieves.

        • 70 seconds per lock.

          • @Punkboy: With LOUD and sparking lights from the machine.

    • +1

Nice lock you have there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.

Just purchased the EVOLUTION MINI-9 via Australian reseller. Ordered two weeks ago and has only just shipped as stock levels incorrect. Paid $100 for that so excellent value here (yet to use or reccomended the lock though ;)

  • Been thinking of getting a more secure lock for my bike just wondering if the mini is going to limit me in securing my bike to some fixtures? or should i go with the standard size?

    • That's the usual consensus. I was researching these last night. Also look at the Kryptonite keeper - it seems a good compromise of strength, flexibility and weight.

  • Back in stock!

  • +2

Much simpler with just a rope tied to your bike:

    • You've made my day. So many LOLs

  • Putting on a bike lock is like running away from a chasing bear; you don't have to actually outrun the bear, just the guy next to you.

.. and delivered today. Nicely done, Amazon (via UK!). Faster than Aus Post can do interstate by a truck.

    • What! Mine is still in the UK "due to weather delays"!

  • Went to buy another, and the price is up at $71.45 now.
