I think the rule is you have to post the pre-cashback price in title

    • Price updated

8th gen core i5, 8GB. Aside from the nice workmanship, this doesn't even really justify the after-cashback price

    • It's the 6th Gen X1 as well, a 2018 laptop

Also has WWAN/LTE which is so handy!

Can confirm that this is a solid product - bought it for about $1800 at the beginning of the year (I paid for additional warranty). Light and speedy - however, I've found that it can run quite loud and hot sometimes for no big reason. Battery life is not overwhelmingly good - just feels like a normal ultrabook in that regard.

I've only ever used Lenovo Thinkpads - so please excuse me if a competitor has a better product for roughly the same price.

    • How is battery life? Can you give me hours with browsing and word processing please?
Did they fix the modern standby issue?

      • I'd reckon about 10 hours max? I almost always have mine set to "Best Battery Life" through Windows when out and about. When at home, I have it rigged up to a dual-monitor display and set to "Best Performance" - so it's not fair to judge its battery life off my home set-up.

I wouldn't know if they fixed it - but I've never witnessed an issue like that.

        • 10 hours is heaps for me! Thanks!!

    For real?

This would struggle with 2020 general business use, like having outlook + teams open, loading up a few lengthy pdfs, then having 10 chrome tabs open…

    • The processor or something else?

    • +1

Can definitely handle it - but it starts to overheat and the fans kick in.

      • Damn seriously? For like outlook + pds + chrome?
Im considering side-grading this for my xps 13 7390 2 in 1 (coz i can't stand my keyboard)…. but that looks pretty crappy

I run 4 vms simultaneously on mine with no issue

      • 4 vms on 8gb ram?

        • +2

          Guessing they have 16GB ram.

        • 16GB

      Only 10 tabs…

  • This or* the T490s?+

    My requirements:

2 Word docs, ~5 Chrome tabs, Outlook.

Long battery life for uni as no where to plug in.

    GOOD KEYBOARD

Recommend the X1 here - I use mine and it's definitely good. Whilst both would would be able to fit your descriptions, the X1 is a fair bit lighter - which is definitely a pro for uni use. From what I can see, the T490 doesn't come with as much storage space - and it's almost impossible to buy bigger version of the special M.2 NVMe Opal cards after-market.

Using an x1 yoga here with i7 8650u and hdr wqhd screen and that thing can perform.

Shame it didn't come with wwan so I guess gonna have to source the wwan antenna and card myself and follow the reddit guide I found.

      Get the X13 AMD

    • At this point if the word "battery life" is involved - look amd. Intel can not compete whatsoever with AMD 4000 series on battery life right now. Maybe with their tiger lake stuff they might be able to but the 4000 ryzens are absolutely creaming anything intel for price performance, pure multithreaded performance (ryzen is slightly worse single thread but way ahead for multi thread), power consumption.

It's just a shame that there isnt as much of it on the market and probably won't be. XMG let it out that AMD is struggling to meet the huge increase in laptop OEM demand for their 4000 chips.

  • How on earth does this compete with a E14g2?

    $730~ for 4500U / 8GB / 256GB / IPS

This is well over double for a 2-3 year old system!?

  • How the hell did my 2 day shipping become 5 day shipping - so annoying.

    • Lol. You have exactly the same comment on this post. Did you really purchase both laptops?

      • Bro idk what I purchased. Just clicked cashback and the first black machine I saw hit buy buy buy. Will be a gud suprise.

    • I owe Le non-expletive novo an apology. They shipped my order today and its coming on the 18th (allegedly - with a past history of BS claims).
