Pretty noob at global model phone. With this (and the 8 pro in particular) obviously there is the warranty disadvantages but is there anything else to know before buying?

    • +1

It's the Global Version, apart from warranty, seems like everything else would be perfectly fine

    • +1

With OnePlus 7 pro global version in Australia the only difference is no volte, but there are workarounds for it on xda

  • At this price, isn't it smarter to buy an s10 for a hundred or so more?

    • +6

Only if you appreciate the close to pure/ clean android experience, without manufacturer's UI on top, although it does come with Oxygen OS but very close to pure android experience. Only downside, you have to do a work around to get the VoLTE/ VoWiFi to work with (speaking from the owner of 7T Pro).

      • +1

Without getting into deep discussions, One UI 2.0 has a setup screen of which you choose what samsung apps you want to install. Also you can use the theme app to make it look just like stock if that's what you like. Just something to consider anyway. Given s10 now has another 2 major OS updates to go too is quite good.

        • +4

Maybe, for prerequisite but to really enable for Aus telco support especially Telstra, use this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-8-pro/help/volte-vo…
          Check post #36.

          • +1

@cloudie9: @cloudie9: For getting VoLTE & VoWiFI on my OP7Pro I used this link
            http://www.m3nghua.com/how-to-force-enable-volte-vowifi-on-o…

            • +1

@ThanksOzB: I tried that before, it works on Optus but it won’t work on Telstra. The only way it works for Telstra is via the link to the xda forum link above.

          • +1

@cloudie9: Thanks cloudie! I didn't know this was possible; previously I got stuck because Enable VoLTE/VoWIFI toggles weren't available in the LogCat menu. When I installed the LogCat APK provided though the options were there, and it's all working on my OnePLus 6 now ^_^

From what I understand Telstra is very strict on what phones they allow to use VoLTE on their network, only allowing specifically tested ones (not sure how the method linked gets around this, but hey I'm not arguing with the results). Optus network is more of a free-for-all, if your phone supports it and has VoLTE enabled it should just work by default.

No it's not - the S10 has a garbage Exynos processor in it which is substantially slower and much worse battery life.

      • +2

Agreed for the hardcore mobile gamers, of which the oneplus is a much better choice.

      • +1

Ok yes mild rant. Why are people so harsh when it comes to the Exynos? maybe I'm nitpicking, but despite it's obvious inferiority, I don't understand some people's penchant for exaggerations. I'm very aware of the Exynos limitations, but I don't understand quite the extent of the hate bandwagon it's attracted. Yes it's a poor processor in comparison to Qualcomm's, but "garbage" is definitely a stretch. I understand the bitterness of most of the world getting shafted compared to the US, but christ some people go on about it to the nth degree. When it comes down to it I'd still consider grabbing a local Exynos variant provided it was highly discounted. People act like even the mere mention of a Exynos processor could give an angel gonorrhea.

        • Perhaps people may be a little harsh in terms of criticism sometimes an overkill, but I do agree with you. People are definitely a little harsh and the term "garbage" seems a little unfair as a lesser processor in comparison to Snapdragon

        • +1

My S10+ is slower than my old Oneplus 5. We're talking about an 835 vs a shitter version of what should be an 855. I'd call it garbage if it can't outperform an 835.

    • +6

Samsung compare to this has, inferior screen, CPU, UI, battery life, punchhole screen. Only advantage is a local warranty and that's about it.

    • In addition to existing comments, 1+ provides OS updates longer. My 5T started on 7 and is now on 10.

  • +2

The 6T is $489… Not as epic as when it dropped to $399 for less than a day though.

    • Prefer 7 Pro for the more powerful 855, more RAM, no notch and the looks too.

  • +6

I've had this phone for over a year and haven't looked back at my previous Samsung flagships. The oxygen OS literally sh*ts all over anything Samsung offers

    • +3

      Have both. Couldn't agree more.

    • +2

Same here. Spent $850 last year for a 8+256g version. No regret at all.

    • -2

Where does the poo come out from? My. OxygenOS lacks this function.

  • It's 741$ on buybuybox+delivery http://buybuybox.com/product.php?id=40727

I purchased the 7t pro for 780$ delivered earlier today.
Please note that for the 7 series, global version or Chinese version are the same when it comes to the bands. And it's very easy to flash the global version's software on the Chinese version (literally from the settings app in the phone).

    • +3

Not quite the same good sir, i do believe your model comes with only 8Gig ram.

I could be wrong however :)

      Cheers!

      • +3

Yes you are right, I didn't notice.
Thank you for pointing it out.

      • +1

Mild difference though. I have my doubts if anyone can actually tell the difference between 8 and 12 GB ram.

        • +1

          It’s 4

          • +4

@loropy9: He was talking about actual world usage.
If anyone owns a oneplus here, you can tell your average ram usage from the developer settings.
I average 4.5 gbs, and on heavy gaming days I average 6 gbs.
So yeah between 8 and 12 there will barely be a difference in real world usage. Especially with the notorious oneplus background processes killing.

    • I personally don't trust buybuybox due to all the reviews and ratings https://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/buybuybox.com

Other than being 8GB RAM 7T Pro also has 855+ vs 855, 4085 mAh vs 4000mAh.

      • Pay with Paypal for more peace of mind.

        • Just avoid them if possible, they are most likely a Chinese company registered in Hong Kong.
Sending out refurbished phones as new and when sent back never heard from again.
They will just wait out the paypal dispute period.

Though this forum post is quite old but I doubt they would have improved much.
          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9502lwy3?p=2#r4664746…

      • And also faster charging, improved selfie camera motor, and a much improved macro mode in the camera.

  • The charger that comes with, is oneplus original?

Does this phone has any IP rating? Didnt say on gsmarena specs

    • +2

OnePlus phones prior to the 8 pro don't have any IP ratings. That's not to say that the OnePlus 7 Pro is wholly adverse to water. In the review by Dave2D, he reviewed the 7 Pro with it in a bucket of water and there are ads from OnePlus that show it being splashed and the like.

While I don't recommend treating the phone like one with an IP rating, just as a precaution, I wouldn't say water contact spells the end of it. It's likely got all the necessary seals just without that extra premium of a rating.

      • +1

        Exactly. Good point.

    • +1

Comes with an additional Kogan adapter that is suitable for Aus sockets, though there is no warp charge. I much rather use a travel adapter so I can use the warp charge which juices up the phone pretty darn fast!

  • +1

Does this come with dual sim?

    • GM1913 is dual SIM

  • So annoying you cant buy these phones locally with warranty.

  • +1

I own this phone, only paid $300 more at launch, it'll get me by this terrible phase of notches, hole punches, and I don't use the selfie cam other than to show it off, having a full screen is fantastic, it's fast, it stays up to date with security patches, and it's fairly stock Android, 90Hz is excellent I'll never go back to 60Hz now, what more do you want? I think it's a fair price too.

    • Did you buy the global version? Any of the standard issues you hear about with bands and volte and whatnot?

      • I have the global model and no issues so far with local telco network, albeit you need to do some work around as my post above to get volte.

      • I have GM1910 and have had it working 4G on Vodaphone and Optus at various times.

        Should be no problem.

  • +1

Hey man. I just wanted to ask, I bought this phone off Kogan the day that you posted it and just wanted to ask, has there been an update regarding the shipping of the phone?

    • Tracking only updated this morning, due for delivery today.

      • hmm. Interesting. Happy for you. Mine is still saying it's being prepared. Was it the same for you?

        • Mine is out for delivery, updated today.
You should enquire Kogan about when your is being dispatched.

          EDIT: Just delivered.

          • @denischto: No update on mine this morning 😭 lol

            • @akb3307: You should chase them up on Monday since that would be pass your 7th business day.

        • Received GM1917 which is the US version with US warp Charger. Also came with AU plug 18W Kogan QC3 Charger.

          • @denischto: Sweet. Thanks for the update man. I'm waiting impatiently for mine to arrive 😀.

            • @akb3307: I'm getting worried 😭. Still no update on my tracking…

              • @akb3307: The last tracking update for mine was last Tuesday, and it said it was processed at a NSW facility, and I'm in Bris. No update since then. Starting to get a tad concerned… :(

                • @matictac: Your ones almost as bad as mine. I'm getting worried as well 🙃 I sent them a mail but no response yet…

                  • @akb3307: Well I got in touch with Australia Post this morning, they said there's definitely still a chance it could turn up, but that it's a good idea to pre-emptively get in touch with Kogan so they can start sorting it out. So I submitted a request asking if they could investigate, got a response earlier tonight and it was clearly a generic "don't worry, we've shipped it, check tracking here" response, so I responded asking if they could actually read my request.

I'll let you know how that goes.

  • Hmm. ok. Thanks mate. Hope all goes well for us

    • Apparently I just need to wait an extra 7-10 days, nothing else I can do. :(

      • Who said you have to wait another 7 to 10 days?

        • Kogan support.

Meanwhile, an Amazon UK parcel I ordered on the same day is being delivered today. :p

          • @matictac: Any good news from you?

            • @denischto: It ended up arriving on 31 Aug, ordered 13 Aug. I tried sorta saying what the hell, refund my postage, but they wouldn't budge. I get there's delays, but my package literally went off the radar for over a week after being scanned in Sydney, then appeared to be in VIC once it reappeared again, and I'm in Bris.

Anyway, it's here now and it's a great phone.

  • Is there anything bad if you receive the GM1917 version?
