Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 8GB for $120.12 Including Shipping @ Digi-key Electronics

170

I feel this price is good as I see from other venders it is around $130+shipping like pi Australia or element41.

Note: For people who have ABN and GST the price comes to $109. At the time of posting there are 350+ units.

So the price should be listed as $120, not $109, as the regular joe can't get it for $109…

Yeh, still a good price, but update the title.. This isn't a business site. And any business knows they can claim GST back.

This is the cheapest price at the moment, but it's less than $1 cheaper than RS components through CashRewards.

        RS Price 124.73
        Less Cashrewards, 3.5% of GST-free price = 0.035 x 113.39 = 3.97
Gives effective price of $120.76, everyday price.

RS also have a cheaper power supply than anywhere else I can see, but non-genuine, $13.01 inc GST:
        https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/ac-dc-adapters/1871381/

RS's HDMI-to-micro-HDMI cables are a little more expensive than Core electronics though, so do your sums for your total order. Also, RS only have basic cases for the Pi, you can't get the better cases like the Argon Neo from them. You can the Argon Neo from Digikey, but you probably can't get a suitable power supply with AU plug from Digikey.

Also, Digikey are a US company, you may get hit with credit card charges for an overseas purchase. Not a problem with the better credit cards (28 Degrees, Bankwest Platinum, maybe a few others). Can't use PayPal with Digikey.

        • cashrewards says no cashback on Pi products.

but OMG, never realised RS was on there, I buy so much stuff for my business from there.. gaah

          • @daft009: Oops, I didn't see that RPi boards are excluded. Unsure of how to correct my mistake.

If you're buying stuff from RS, have you seen Octopart.com? Octopart is a price-comparison site, and it's great for finding the lowest price, but the search tool can be awkward to use.

            • @Russ: thanks, I have an account manager at RS.
for the key products we buy in bulk we get excellent set pricing
for the others they give me a decent discount too, and it usually arrives next day

OP, you need to put the price in the title as $120, you can’t put the price that ABN holders get after they claim GST, you need to put the price that a regular person can see in the checkout but you are more than welcome to put the ABN GST claim back price in the description of your post.

Also, depending on what accessories you need (PSU, case, etc), might be cheaper buying from Element14 or RS - or split between them all…

    https://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/rpi4-modbp-8gb/raspber…
    https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/processor-microcontroller-dev…

Both offer free shipping (Element14 free for $50+)..

Yes it's worth shopping around if you're getting a few accessories at the same time.

I paid the standard $130 inc. GST for my Pi4 8GB from Core Electronics, but with the other bits and pieces I got with it, it was cheaper overall than RS and Element14.

Small Devices have also worked out cheapest on a couple of RPi related purchases I've made.

EDIT: I'd also like to mention Core Electonic's awesome customer support. I bought a Pimoroni Pibow Coupé 4 case for my Pi4 8GB from them, and when assembling it seemed to me like it wouldn't fit properly due to some changed components on the 8GB version's board compared to the 2GB & 4GB.

I popped an email through to Core' about it, and the next day they grabbed the same case from in stock and assembled it with a Pi4 8GB to make sure it can actually fit (it does, just needs extra wiggling).

      Thanks, Oliver! 👍

Worth noting that RS has stock; Element14 doesn't.

Worth noting that RS has stock

Well, "in stock" on the other side of the world, hence the 5 working days (= 1 week) delivery. RS components and Element14 don't have much in stock for next-day delivery.

Digikey and Mouser generally work out cheaper and faster (using free delivery through DHL for orders >AU$60), and they have much, much more in stock. However, for an RPi power supply with AU plug, unlikely you'll find one from either of these, as they're US companies. Lately DHL has been delivering in ~5 days from the US, so order today (Thursday), and delivery will be early next week.

RS do have some very good prices on some items though. See my post above, RPi-compatible 5.1V 3A power supply for AU$13.01 delivered.

        • An aside: beware ordering anything from RS showing as on back-order, as their dates are fluid and often inaccurate. I've just cancelled an order for a Pi accessory I ordered at the start of July, originally due to be delivered to me by around the 25th July.

In subsequent weeks I received a couple of email updates, each pushing the delivery date back a fortnight or so. Then it was supposed to have been dispatched early this month, but I didn't receive any shipping notification, so tried to chase it up.

Depending where on their site's order status I looked, the item had already been sent, or was due to be sent later this month.

When I finally got a reply to my email enquiry from RS, they told me it was still not in stock, nothing had been sent yet, and it would be late September before they'd have it in stock again.

          At that point I cancelled.

  • It's very misleading to say the price without GST and then also claiming it's $130+ from other vendors. You mention element14 but it's $122.87 Inc. GST and incl shipping from element14!
So $120 inc GST and shipping, is still good, just don't add wrong/misleading information.

Call me a betrayer but I would order from Digikey over E14 almost any time:

    • Digikey has clear pricing, E14 expects customers to haggle and get quotes. (Not so much for hobbyists or 1-offs).

    • Digikey in stock is quicker delivery even with a trip around the world than E14 "in stock" unless it is clearly local stock. Order Digikey on Friday and have it on Monday or Tuesday.

    • Digikey actually has stock, E14 not so much any more.

I will never forget the days before Digikey when E14 (FEC) had markups of tens of thousands of % on almost everything. At least then they provided a service, that seems to have disappeared now.

Yeah I got tricked into thinking there was stock of over 2000 ready to ship for an IC I bought from e14. My order had been awaiting shipment for the last week ugh.. too lazy to call them…
But annoyed that it wasn't clear that the stock they had was in the UK.

    • "E14 expects customers to haggle and get quotes."

      Seriously? A price like
      "$111.70 ($122.87 Inc. GST)"
is haggling to you? What more do you want?

The 2GB model is $56 inc GST, bought that and an Argon Neo case for a total of $80.56 inc GST and delivery which seemed like a decent price for the two combined. Delivery was 6 days after ordering. No doubt somebody will find it cheaper, but it was hassle free and fast so I'm good either way!

    Two items:

    1597-114992054-ND 22.28 + GST
