It can be extremely useful if you want to see if you have a defective solar panel, which bearing, electrical circuit, etc.
For your average person, probably not that much use other than novelty.
I watched a TV show the other day where they used one to find some severed fingers in the grass, though that would only work if they were severed very recently.
