I think you need to put price in the tilte.

  • Price in heading please

    • apologies !

5ms on a VA 144hz…. I suspect it will be blurry

    • +1

It will be blurry, but peak response times don't exactly mean a whole lot.

You want an average response time of 4.16 ms for 240Hz, for example, and the ideal response time would be 50% of the refresh window, so 2.08 ms for 240Hz.

Most 1ms response time units only do this in an extreme overdrive mode that's unusable, just because people who don't understand response time think that 1ms is awesome and must be purchased. There are some 240Hz panels that do offer usable ones, and even lower (0.5-0.8ms).

But back to this panel, likely a CHG70-related binning, there will be a lot of dark smearing due to slow response times moving from black to near-black (0-20%) which is a weakness of the technology. The upcoming Samsung G5 uses a new variant of VA that vastly improves on this - at the expense of some contrast - and will probably be the new standard recommendation for most gaming/multimedia use cases.

    • It's a Samsung panel with a Kogan logo. Kogan monitors are usually extremely good value.

Doesn’t say this anywhere, so had to look through the user manual.

    Brightness
    280cd/m² (Typ.)

LOL, so much for even HDR400

      • its Kogan, expect fake HDR

        • You talk like all hdr from big brands are real…

          • +1

@Dienk: All the brands use the same OEMs, the only difference is price when comparing the two same panels. HDR has always been a gimmick.

I got a mate who bought one of these last year on my recommendation. They aren't bad panels for the price, and he seems happy with it. They went for about $350 on Black Friday, to give some reference.

      Are you sure he's you're mate? I don't think I'd ever recomnend Kogan to a mate :p

      • Usually I'd agree with you but these are actually really solid panels. Owned one for almost a year now and have had no issues, Kogan displays are imo a great option if you're on a budget and not expecting a top tier premium display.

      • There's only a couple of monitor OEMs that exist. Kogan usually buy their panels from Samsung and stick their logo on it.

  • +5

    Don't buy from kogan

  • +8

Buy this IF this is $350. If its $450 might as well get the viewsonic 1440p144hz IPS.

Looks decent but like all marketing 1MS is fake even the viewsonic can do it but its not even worth using the 1ms.

    • EXACTLY

        • Bought the ViewSonic above from Centrecom and been very happy with it. IPS panel, affordable, fast, G-Sync compatible, good colour calibration out of the box, looks good and has a good stand setup.

Wouldn't risk the Kogan unit for the small difference in price.

          • @buffalo bill: weird question but can you have 2 monitors both taking advantage of g-sync?

            edit: that one is freesync

            • @[Deactivated]: I believe so, but have only ever used G-Sync on a single monitor setup.

              Perhaps someone else can answer/confirm.

              • @buffalo bill: Do you notice the lack of HDR? Or does everything else sort of make up for it?

                • @mingalings: Not noticeable with the work (and gaming) I do. Also, the same panel from that ViewSonic extracts 350 nits from actually meets HDR standard in other monitors, so not sure what's different with the ViewSonic (apart from slightly less peak brightness obviously). However, overall it's a good package for the price and I suspect if your criteria was true HDR content, you'd be paying a lot more for a display anyway (600+ nits, 4K, bigger etc).

Funny thing is, brightness is still higher than the Kogan which actually makes claim to HDR400… hmmm….

    • I mean it is on the Viewsonic if you turn off adaptive sync, which is a perfectly valid choice as your max refresh rate claims, but yes the best overdrive mode as soon as you drop below about 135Hz is the next one down.

  • strange enough that they put dual screen on slides but it doesn't come with VESA mount….

    • You mean this? There's no vesa stand accessory in this image, they are just the built-in monitor stands

      • -1

yep, but it would be a pain to have dual screen without a set of proper arm….

"Have a near year old 1440p 144Hz kogan monitor and still runs fine to this day."

Bit of a sad state of affairs when we're happy that a piece of electronics still runs fine when it's not even 12 months old

Yes I do have a Kogan panel. It's a TV and it's still running fine after several years

    • what is the difference between a kogan monitor and a samsung monitor?
      expectation!

  • I have two of these, as you expect from a cheap VA panel, the motion blur and ghosting is pretty bad compared to other options. Although I only ever really notice it on dark background while scrolling through text, in games it doesn't really break the experience. These also work with G-sync with no issues

  • 8 bit colour, not great HDR capabilities. This is bare minimum for vesa

  • This or the Dell S2721DGF for $530?
