Huawei P30 on Amazon has dropped $100 to $597. Makes it slightly cheaper than the recent Mobileciti deal. Take my ozbargain card away, I bought it last week for $697 :'(. Great phone though.

                @El Psy Kongroo: It is a cultural thing, Goes back a long time but is passed down generationally and is acceptable in their societies. Western cultures changed that recently through society and religions where it became unacceptable to treat people with different skin colours or darker skin colours the way they had been doing it previously.

                But in the Asian countries there are billion dollar industries that blatantly promote the "fairness" of skin colour as being superior and better than darker skin tones. It is also not just the uneducated but the educated because its accepted as common knowledge and the truth. They dont see it as being wrong but rather factual so no need to change. I was treated unfairly not just by a small no. but by the majority including teachers and students. There are people who arent like that but a lot of people are and because its acceptable behaviour, there is no urgency to change any of that. The countries you mentioned also have a lot of racism in there.

                  @lonewolf: As I said, the USA is the most powerful country in the world, so other countries will 'have to' similarly follow the US' system(s) and 'rules' or they will not survive in the future (at least they won't advance as fast). It's probably called globalisation or something like that. Obviously racism still exists everywhere including in the USA. Of course there are more racism outside the USA because the US is the one setting the example for others to 'follow'.

                  They're the pioneers of multi-culturalism (but never forget their dark history of destroying Native-American and using slaves from Africa, etc). Some people might not notice the 'background' work going on but the US, most likely, has already set up systems / rules that pretty much have to be followed by others to survive / advance in this world. Yes, being a war victor and the most powerful country in the world usually gets you more privileges. Chinese government (and some Chinese citizen) still don't want to give up communism, hence all this drama (it's what I personally think, I'll still listen to your opinion but I probably won't change my mind on this). We might have to agree to disagree.

    I bought this phone last year. I get software updates and no issues so far.

    After iphone, i wanted try Android. I had to make a choice between Samsung s10 amd Huawei last year and I decided to go with this phone. Until now I have zero regrets. The best feature of this phone is battery life and camera. I heard the p30 pro is even better and suits professional.

    Best phone that one can buy for this price. Nice compact size, excellent screen, reasonably powered. Great camera with same main unit as P30 pro. Huawei has been delivering great phones year after year, its unfortunately that politics is killing the innovation with all this ban stuff now.

        Both are comparable in terms of value they offer but oppo is ~50 grams heavier which is deal breaker for me, but you do get 10x zoom and slightly larger screen on that.

      Camera is different to P30 Pro, and generally it's not too good. White balance is off, auto focus is slow (takes a couple of seconds at times).

    Not taking sides here but the problem with that article is that's Huawei's response. There seems to be no public statements coming from the US Gov or Google yet on how the recent licence expiry effects devices like the P30 in the future. Everyone may need to calm down and wait for more info. It's very easy for Huawei to have the rug pulled out from under them. Even Google may not know the facts and could be clarifying with the government before making a statement.

    In this article from the 15th Aug Google suggests that the now expired licence may have been the only thing permitting them to offer any services to Huawei at all and declined to comment further (last two paragraphs):

    I've had the P30 for nearly two years. Phone still runs like new. No lag, battery lasts a day and a half. Phenomenal phone. For this price a no brainer. You won't regret it.

      Huawei makes fantastic hardware - especially camera. Samsung or Apple can't beat their camera hardware.
      I have a 3 year old budget phone Honor 6x which runs like first day (including stellar battery performance) even today. It fell and has cracked screen (but no issues with performance or UI response or with playing games even now!!).
      Too bad Huawei is mired in controversies.

        Exactly haha I know several people using iPhones that have probably just received their last update and it's not going in the trash. What are people predicting will come that they must have ? It's not like a lot of androids 10 most noted features even came to Australia anyways. If it's the security updates then that's fair enough, not sure if they will stop too.

      It's an almost two year old phone. Android manufacturers abandon their devices at about that point.

      Pixel 4a is new and will have 3 years of updates.

        Well look at hardware, there are phones coming out with hardware that is dated, displays, chips, camera systems etc but people still buy them because it's honestly good enough. So my question is, what exactly are people waiting for? Software doesn't undergo any massive changes anymore and features sometimes don't even come to Australia. Like I said, I know people who have had iphones for 4-5 years and they said they will have them for another 4 because the software is good enough and it works.

      Lite is somewhat slower (not bad), IPS screen instead of OLED, no NFC, etc

      P30 Lite is a great little phone for the price (Mrs has one), but it's considerably different from the P30.

      True, it's not quite as fast. That said, there aren't many 855 options avaliable at this price.

      The Mi Mix 3 5G fits the bill. However it's much heavier, thicker and doesn't have Widevine L1, disallowing >480p on protected content like Netflix, etc. Which was the deal breaker for me.

    This is my first huawei phone, bought it around April last year and had served me quite well. The camera was quite appealing and was the thing that pushed me to purchase, however recently I find that the colours captured are very inaccurate, even with the AI software turned off it was still very inaccurate.

    I also find that frequently used apps such as chrome, facebook and instagram often crash/freeze which I've never had from my previous phones. Hardware wise it seems very good but I'm not too fond of the software side of things :/

    oh and the fingerprint reader is a b*tch at night time if you're using it in bed cause it's blindingly bright.

      I’m using since last year too. Currently on 10.1
      No issues with apps or camera colours, still same as before. I use it with AI off.
      For the fingerprint, that’s how the technology works, it’s the same for all under screen sensors. Also your thumb/finger is suppose to cover it so it’s not blinding !

    It's hard to decide between this or iqoo z1 for $420+ in 2 days. Apparently faster chip and better battery management for the weak 5g signal in almost all the places I go locally compare to China.

    But p30 is a great phone, just the right phone size for my own use, and beats every other Samsung and iPhone i had so far.

    I'm not sure what to do with my p30 with screen damage. It's been sitting around for a few months now. When I looked on google repair seems to be about $400, which is ridiculous for such a meh (non-samsung) OLED screen. I'd happily sell it for any price TBH otherwise it'll continue to be a paperweight, but wiping my data seems like a hassle without a functional screen. Any suggestions?

      Does the display work but just not register touch? If so sometimes if you turn the phone off, connect a usb mouse and reboot the phone it will enable mouse support so you can wipe it. I did that with a Sony Z5 once through an OTG adapter. Not sure if the P30 supports that.

      I wonder if you can buy a screen off AliExpress and change it yourself? Sell it to me cheap if you're in Brisbane, I'll try to fix the screen myself then bring it back to you to turn it on and wipe. Agree it's not worth the $400 for someone else to fix but replacement screen and casing maybe $60 idk (haven't looked but have bought previously for lg g6 and Asus ZenFone)

      Did you have Googles find my device installed on it? Could remote wipe it by logging into another device. Could probably also just plug into a pc and open the drive storage and delete or formate it. Could so save all your photos/vids and docs doing so

      I sent my p30 off for repair to Huawei Australia and to my surprise customer service was excellent. Brand new phone mailed back to me in 2 weeks no charge. YMMV if you dropped and cracked your screen, whereas mine the digitiser stopped working

    By the way, arguments aside, if you're looking to buy a P30 I think cashback via Shopback is 4% at Amazon on mobiles and if you have Suncorp rewards the Amazon egift cards are 3% off. Shopback says cashback is valid on orders paid with giftcards. I only had a quick look you might want to confirm yourself before purchase. So thats another possible 7% off or $555.21.

          Nothing you said really made sense. You have given you personal information more times than you can imagine. This site is alone your giving your personal information through your ip address which can then be used to snoop your data traffic. It's a digital world, their is nothing private or really personal anymore. People sell information, companies sell your information, all your adsense data is collected and sold. Facebook even sells your information, everything you upload to the Internet on fb or if you give over some of your ip rights.

            @Barbequemilk: Not mine…It was someone else laptop…which had a faulty power supply and asked me to fix it. He accident shorted the power plug (warranty refused) and the shocking (intensionally could be) design flaw I found was that the simple protection circuitry (grounding) is missing for such matter so that it fried the IO chip.
            I did a run test after fixing it…

          Do you even know the difference between chips for cell phones and for 5G equipment? Huawei is not able to obtain 7nm cell phone chips, but this has nothing to do with 5G gears.

            @RimofLeo: Huawei uses its Tiangang chips, developed in-house, for baseband chips contained in its 5G base station AAU and BBU. These chips are manufactured with 7nm process technology and primarily by TSMC.

            TSMC is clearly not on Huawei's side now.

              @vchung916: It still is. The US has extended the date to 15th Sep now. This may be the 7th or 8th extension lol.
              It does not hurt that much to go back to 14nm. The overall performance is not significantly affected if Huawei can exhaust the optential. I think you do know that 5G is not all about products. Huawei can benefit as much as Qualcomm for developing the 5G standard/IP.

                @RimofLeo: It is the American technologies involving in the process of manufacturing, regardless 14 or 7nm or whatever that make thing turned ugly for Huawei…More over, when they shut down older manufacturing process and upgrade to new one, there is no way to go back in many senses.. smart guy.

                  @bambolayo: Cutting-edge chip techiques are maily from the Europe, not the US. Huawei cannot get 7nm simply because the foundaries are afraid of the Americunts' bulling. Nothing about smartness, it is about common sense as a social being.
