              • @El Psy Kongroo: It is a cultural thing, Goes back a long time but is passed down generationally and is acceptable in their societies. Western cultures changed that recently through society and religions where it became unacceptable to treat people with different skin colours or darker skin colours the way they had been doing it previously.

But in the Asian countries there are billion dollar industries that blatantly promote the "fairness" of skin colour as being superior and better than darker skin tones. It is also not just the uneducated but the educated because its accepted as common knowledge and the truth. They dont see it as being wrong but rather factual so no need to change. I was treated unfairly not just by a small no. but by the majority including teachers and students. There are people who arent like that but a lot of people are and because its acceptable behaviour, there is no urgency to change any of that. The countries you mentioned also have a lot of racism in there.

                • +1

@lonewolf: As I said, the USA is the most powerful country in the world, so other countries will 'have to' similarly follow the US' system(s) and 'rules' or they will not survive in the future (at least they won't advance as fast). It's probably called globalisation or something like that. Obviously racism still exists everywhere including in the USA. Of course there are more racism outside the USA because the US is the one setting the example for others to 'follow'.

They're the pioneers of multi-culturalism (but never forget their dark history of destroying Native-American and using slaves from Africa, etc). Some people might not notice the 'background' work going on but the US, most likely, has already set up systems / rules that pretty much have to be followed by others to survive / advance in this world. Yes, being a war victor and the most powerful country in the world usually gets you more privileges. Chinese government (and some Chinese citizen) still don't want to give up communism, hence all this drama (it's what I personally think, I'll still listen to your opinion but I probably won't change my mind on this). We might have to agree to disagree.

Those two are drug smugglers, get your facts right.

      • What about the Chinese doctor who revealed coronavirus? Was he a smuggler, as well?

        • +4

He died of COVID. No idea what irony you’re trying to bring out, but apparently you don’t read news.

        • +2

Lol wut? Dude you sound like somebody brainwashed by propaganda news media.

    • +5

"They're murdering two people" LMAO hahahahhaa

Now you know what does ‘ignorance’ mean LAMO

  • +9

I bought this phone last year. I get software updates and no issues so far.

After iphone, i wanted try Android. I had to make a choice between Samsung s10 amd Huawei last year and I decided to go with this phone. Until now I have zero regrets. The best feature of this phone is battery life and camera. I heard the p30 pro is even better and suits professional.

  • +17

Best phone that one can buy for this price. Nice compact size, excellent screen, reasonably powered. Great camera with same main unit as P30 pro. Huawei has been delivering great phones year after year, its unfortunately that politics is killing the innovation with all this ban stuff now.

    • +4

Can't agree more. Spent last few months looking for alternative replacement but can't find one. Especially, I paid less than $500 for brand new P30 last year.

    • Huawei? Innovation? Really??

      • +3

Get yourself some decent education then try to read some latest news in the communication industry and you'll easily find the answer.

    • How does this phone compare to OPPO Reno 10X Zoom which was recently on sale for $499?

      • Both are comparable in terms of value they offer but oppo is ~50 grams heavier which is deal breaker for me, but you do get 10x zoom and slightly larger screen on that.

    • Camera is different to P30 Pro, and generally it's not too good. White balance is off, auto focus is slow (takes a couple of seconds at times).

This article has been posted twice:
    https://www.gizchina.com/2020/08/18/huawei-phones-will-still…

Not taking sides here but the problem with that article is that's Huawei's response. There seems to be no public statements coming from the US Gov or Google yet on how the recent licence expiry effects devices like the P30 in the future. Everyone may need to calm down and wait for more info. It's very easy for Huawei to have the rug pulled out from under them. Even Google may not know the facts and could be clarifying with the government before making a statement.

In this article from the 15th Aug Google suggests that the now expired licence may have been the only thing permitting them to offer any services to Huawei at all and declined to comment further (last two paragraphs):
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/08/14/huawei-te…

If there is a statement from Google within the last week confirming all is well then it would be great if someone can post it to inspire more confidence in the purchase of a P30 device.

  • +4

nice phone, ticks pretty much all boxes, but locked bootloader kills it. official support doesnt last forever

  • +3

I am a p30 Pro owner. Love this phone.
Without trade ban issue, this phone nearly matches iPhone Pro 11, worth 3x as much.

  • +2

it seems officeworks has it at this price also https://imgur.com/i6UKf2f officeworks also has the breathing crystal colour

  • +1

This or the mate 20 pro?

    • On back order. Put in an order. Has a decent camera which I'm looking for and at a good price.

  • +5

I've had the P30 for nearly two years. Phone still runs like new. No lag, battery lasts a day and a half. Phenomenal phone. For this price a no brainer. You won't regret it.

    • Huawei makes fantastic hardware - especially camera. Samsung or Apple can't beat their camera hardware.
I have a 3 year old budget phone Honor 6x which runs like first day (including stellar battery performance) even today. It fell and has cracked screen (but no issues with performance or UI response or with playing games even now!!).
Too bad Huawei is mired in controversies.

  • +5

Existing users will still receive updates.

    https://m.gsmarena.com/huawei_confirms_its_existing_phones_w…

  • +5

Even if Huawei says there will be updates, it may not pass safetynet which means banking apps will have problems.

    • If that's the case, Huawei is better off not updating it. Unless there a weird way for safetynet to break if you leave it unpatched?

In my opinion, no updates is good news for me. The last thing I want is Google or Huawei messing around with lockscreen again.

  • +4

From the comments it seems people aren't buying because they may not get updates in the future. I'm guessing these people buy new phones everytime their phones stop getting updates?

    • +3

meanwhile my phone is still on android 4.4 XD all apps still work innit

      • +1

Exactly haha I know several people using iPhones that have probably just received their last update and it's not going in the trash. What are people predicting will come that they must have ? It's not like a lot of androids 10 most noted features even came to Australia anyways. If it's the security updates then that's fair enough, not sure if they will stop too.

    • It's an almost two year old phone. Android manufacturers abandon their devices at about that point.

Pixel 4a is new and will have 3 years of updates.

How much left for the Huawei p30?

It is a great phone right now, but its shelf life is nearing its end

      • +2

Well look at hardware, there are phones coming out with hardware that is dated, displays, chips, camera systems etc but people still buy them because it's honestly good enough. So my question is, what exactly are people waiting for? Software doesn't undergo any massive changes anymore and features sometimes don't even come to Australia. Like I said, I know people who have had iphones for 4-5 years and they said they will have them for another 4 because the software is good enough and it works.

  • whats the difference between this and the P30 Lite? i like the price of the other one better.

    • Lite is somewhat slower (not bad), IPS screen instead of OLED, no NFC, etc

P30 Lite is a great little phone for the price (Mrs has one), but it's considerably different from the P30.

    • The P30 camera is much better than the lite. Excellent battery life.

Both are on Android 10 with the July 2020 security patches pushed locally.

  • This might be a silly question, but does it have access to Google Play Store? Would be upgrading from a Galaxy S8.

    • +2

      Yes it does.

    • Yes, and Huawei have consistently released latest updates. The one my wife uses has the July 2020 security patches applied.

  • +3

tempted, but performance seems worse than snapdragon 855 phones:
    https://www.androidauthority.com/huawei-p30-review-975523/

"In Geekbench, the Huawei P30 rated a single-core score of 3,284 and a multi-core score of 9,789. AnTuTu saw a score of 286,936. 3DMark topped a score of 3,924 in OpenGL and 4,131 in Vulcan.
These scores are similar to the Huawei P30’s closest competition, the OnePlus 6T. While the scores are far from the highest we’ve seen, the Kirin 980 debuted six months ago, so it makes sense that it can’t quite compete with the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 855."

Probably better of with the Oppo reno 5g/4g (10x zoom) for around $600, with snapdragon 855

    • True, it's not quite as fast. That said, there aren't many 855 options avaliable at this price.

The Mi Mix 3 5G fits the bill. However it's much heavier, thicker and doesn't have Widevine L1, disallowing >480p on protected content like Netflix, etc. Which was the deal breaker for me.

  • This is my first huawei phone, bought it around April last year and had served me quite well. The camera was quite appealing and was the thing that pushed me to purchase, however recently I find that the colours captured are very inaccurate, even with the AI software turned off it was still very inaccurate.

I also find that frequently used apps such as chrome, facebook and instagram often crash/freeze which I've never had from my previous phones. Hardware wise it seems very good but I'm not too fond of the software side of things :/

oh and the fingerprint reader is a b*tch at night time if you're using it in bed cause it's blindingly bright.

    • +2

I’m using since last year too. Currently on 10.1
No issues with apps or camera colours, still same as before. I use it with AI off.
For the fingerprint, that’s how the technology works, it’s the same for all under screen sensors. Also your thumb/finger is suppose to cover it so it’s not blinding !

      Edit: I have p30 pro

  • It's hard to decide between this or iqoo z1 for $420+ in 2 days. Apparently faster chip and better battery management for the weak 5g signal in almost all the places I go locally compare to China.

But p30 is a great phone, just the right phone size for my own use, and beats every other Samsung and iPhone i had so far.

  • I'm not sure what to do with my p30 with screen damage. It's been sitting around for a few months now. When I looked on google repair seems to be about $400, which is ridiculous for such a meh (non-samsung) OLED screen. I'd happily sell it for any price TBH otherwise it'll continue to be a paperweight, but wiping my data seems like a hassle without a functional screen. Any suggestions?

    • +1

Does the display work but just not register touch? If so sometimes if you turn the phone off, connect a usb mouse and reboot the phone it will enable mouse support so you can wipe it. I did that with a Sony Z5 once through an OTG adapter. Not sure if the P30 supports that.

    • +1

Can you wipe it using android device manager? If it has a network connection (ie your wifi) it should work.

      https://www.google.com/android/find

I had the same problem with a Xiaomi Mi 9 se, the screen repair cost is as much as I paid for the phone! But it seems impossible to buy the 9 SE now, so I got a P30 instead.

    • +1

I wonder if you can buy a screen off AliExpress and change it yourself? Sell it to me cheap if you're in Brisbane, I'll try to fix the screen myself then bring it back to you to turn it on and wipe. Agree it's not worth the $400 for someone else to fix but replacement screen and casing maybe $60 idk (haven't looked but have bought previously for lg g6 and Asus ZenFone)

      • I'm in Sydney unfortunately otherwise I'd definitely take you up on that offer!

    • +1

Did you have Googles find my device installed on it? Could remote wipe it by logging into another device. Could probably also just plug into a pc and open the drive storage and delete or formate it. Could so save all your photos/vids and docs doing so

    • Wow 400 is pretty steep. What quote are you getting from those kiosks in shopping centres?
Did you pay via AMEX card (mine covers screen damage)

    • +1

I sent my p30 off for repair to Huawei Australia and to my surprise customer service was excellent. Brand new phone mailed back to me in 2 weeks no charge. YMMV if you dropped and cracked your screen, whereas mine the digitiser stopped working

      • +1

I can also vouch for Huawei Australia's customer service.
My dad's 2 year old Mate 10 pro has bloated battery, he also got a new Optus branded Mate 10 pro as replacement. And his phone just passed 2 years warranty too.

  • -4

    Huawei = yuck. No thanks

  • +2

I would go with Samsung A71

    • +1

      Not everybody wants a phablet

    • +1

Or Galaxy S9 if A71 is too big.

  • +1

I wish there's a phone out there with a decent battery like Huawei. Gosh don't you hate charging throughout the day with like Samsung.

Confirmed—Huawei Smartphone Users Have Serious New Update Problem

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2020/08/15/confirmed…

"..As things stand, it’s almost certain that Huawei will be able to keep updating the core Android OS on those devices. This doesn’t require proprietary software to be provided to the Chinese company. But some of the security certificates on those devices might change, and that might impact some of the third party apps on the phone, perhaps banking or games or media viewers. The core suite of Google apps themselves, though, and some of Google’s underlying services might be at risk. It’s not yet clear that these will be updated and re-certified with new OS updates."

    • Maybe maybe maybe…. Only thing CONFIRMED is you maybe wrong.

    • +1

Show your understanding, briefly. Making tons of quotations does not make you look like a smart being. Especially these words are understandings of another person, not solid evidence.

  • +1

For the record this will get future updates. Deal was struck that eveything pre p40 will still be Google supported

    https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/1325…

    • -4

The last paragraph of the article from your link. "They said: "What will most likely happen is that Huawei devices that already have Google apps will continue to have them, however, Huawei won’t receive support from Google if any changes they make to their builds break compatibility with Google apps. Thus, Huawei will have to tread lightly with pushing software updates if the TGL is not renewed.""

      • That just plain lie. You have no idea how Android ecosystem works.

  • +2

I was so tempted to buy this phone even at $700, but after recent news about cyber attack, I am just refraining myself from buying this super powerful phone at this price.

None of it has solid scientific proof, if based on the proof we already known, got to ban most of US tech firms.

  • -4

"…Niamh Muldoon, senior director of trust and security at OneLogin, said: “The Huawei saga keeps being pushed around the political playing field, but this eventuality is likely to have an impact on the individual Huawei user. Failure to update to the latest version of a mobile device’s software is one of the main in-roads for cyber-criminals looking to compromise a device, or to compromise the accounts hosted on the device, such as banking, messaging or social media applications.

“If a vulnerability is patched in a software update, and a user installs said update, they are protected from it. However, if this option is taken away from people, it leaves them with no option but to continue using an outdated software model which may leave them vulnerable to compromise. While the concerns around Huawei are politically complex and not appropriate for simple answers, for them to be potentially affecting the end user in this method is unacceptable. "

  • +1

Was thinking of buying this phone but the comments have left me unsure.

  • -7

I wouldn't buy any Chinese company phone, all they want to do is sell bugged phones and collect passwords for their dictatorial regime, yuck, USA all the way baby!!

  • +2

Just don’t buy no need to be unsure.

    • +3

Funny thing is we already sure Google and NSA spy on us, why don't you dumb your phone?

      • +1

We are made to believe there is good spying and bad spying.

  • +2

By the way, arguments aside, if you're looking to buy a P30 I think cashback via Shopback is 4% at Amazon on mobiles and if you have Suncorp rewards the Amazon egift cards are 3% off. Shopback says cashback is valid on orders paid with giftcards. I only had a quick look you might want to confirm yourself before purchase. So thats another possible 7% off or $555.21.

    • +3

Appreciate for discussing a real bargain on OzBargain. IDK why ppl are so paranoid about the ccp conspiracy sh*t.

Suncorp have a limit for $500 value Amazon GC per month, so can save $15
      597*96%=573.12 - 15 = 558.12

      • Good catch I didn't know about the $500 limit

  • Just ran a check on second hand used values of this phone, it’s $250 to $350 so make of that what you will.

    • Where?

  • -4

So many chinese 50 cent soldiers in this forum…
I would never touch a Chinese brand of tech, doest matter if it a PC, laptop or smart phone. Just open your eyes…CCP (communist party)'s ambition of spying is real, no joke. And most of their products are a result of intellectual thief…

    • +6

Dude every freaking government spies, wtf will the Chinese do with your information. If they wanted your information they will snoop it from your non Chinese products which you seem to think are safe lols

      • -1

what u said basically the same like when people talked about corruption in communism countries, they will defend that it happens everywhere. However, it is the law and the transparency that makes the difference. And the intention of the CCP to use it that is matter (U should worry). Pass me your personal information, then I will give you an example of how people can use it in a wrong purpose, don't suit me for that.
And, why does CCP need to go around when they can collect your information easy way? How do they do it through non Chinese products?
        It's your choice anyway…

        • +4

Nothing you said really made sense. You have given you personal information more times than you can imagine. This site is alone your giving your personal information through your ip address which can then be used to snoop your data traffic. It's a digital world, their is nothing private or really personal anymore. People sell information, companies sell your information, all your adsense data is collected and sold. Facebook even sells your information, everything you upload to the Internet on fb or if you give over some of your ip rights.

Chinese don't need to use consumer hardware to spy on you

          • @DoesntEvenMatter: Tell me…what does Chinese use to spy on people then? By selling biscuit…people eat it then when it comes out from the other end, Chinese government will collect it to analyse the person information? It not a bad ideal and it does happend for real.

        • +1

Not interested in what you are trying to say.

    • +1

Is Lenovo laptop made in china or us? Lol

      • What do you mean? Lenovo is a Chinese company, the product is made in China with RAM, SSD and BIOS chip are home grown as well (which is really arlaming, because these components store information and control the machine).

        • +2

Great!! You knew it made in china but you still using Lenovo laptop.

Here is your comments about Lenovo laptop.

"Battery is crap…even brand new, it last around 3h max…useless if u have a long day school."

          • @Barbequemilk: Not mine…It was someone else laptop…which had a faulty power supply and asked me to fix it. He accident shorted the power plug (warranty refused) and the shocking (intensionally could be) design flaw I found was that the simple protection circuitry (grounding) is missing for such matter so that it fried the IO chip.
I did a run test after fixing it…

    • +2

What about 5G? Huawei stole it so that the US does not have it anymore?
Use your brain more wisely dude…

      • +1

        lol. Good one.

      • -1

What about 5g? Huawei R&D department on 5G was running by hired American engineers…Huawei shoot their foots by fired them to retaliate the US…Now their chips can't even being manufactured. Huawei pretty much finished now…

        • +1

Do you even know the difference between chips for cell phones and for 5G equipment? Huawei is not able to obtain 7nm cell phone chips, but this has nothing to do with 5G gears.
You really impressed me, by your prejudice and ignorance on simple facts.

          • @RimofLeo: Huawei uses its Tiangang chips, developed in-house, for baseband chips contained in its 5G base station AAU and BBU. These chips are manufactured with 7nm process technology and primarily by TSMC.

TSMC is clearly not on Huawei's side now.

            • +1

@vchung916: It still is. The US has extended the date to 15th Sep now. This may be the 7th or 8th extension lol.
It does not hurt that much to go back to 14nm. The overall performance is not significantly affected if Huawei can exhaust the optential. I think you do know that 5G is not all about products. Huawei can benefit as much as Qualcomm for developing the 5G standard/IP.

              • @RimofLeo: It is the American technologies involving in the process of manufacturing, regardless 14 or 7nm or whatever that make thing turned ugly for Huawei…More over, when they shut down older manufacturing process and upgrade to new one, there is no way to go back in many senses.. smart guy.

                • +2

@bambolayo: Cutting-edge chip techiques are maily from the Europe, not the US. Huawei cannot get 7nm simply because the foundaries are afraid of the Americunts' bulling. Nothing about smartness, it is about common sense as a social being.

    • And who are you? a 60 cent solder?
Who hired you to post here?

      • The US government I think…what about u?

        • Are you serious? Hired by US government to spread false information against Chinese government in this forum?
I am just browsing a bargain here.

  • +1

when i search sth on google, i will see the similar product ads on chrome very soon. I suspect google still my info.
