Gotta say rx100 series overall holds value really well.

I had one and returned it, had some issues but generally didn’t like it, as a point and shoot iphone is that much more convenient. Good price though

    • Same, got it for $570 ish last year with a battery and expired Sony gift card that still worked. I didn't like the camera. Flimsy. Had a clip break after using it a couple of times and it just wasn't a joy for me.

    • Totally agreed , phone is so good with point and shoot and publish

the sensor size of this vs a camera phone cannot be compared

and a lot of people would argue the post processing photos in smartphones ruin it, especially if you were to edit photos or print them afterwards

Omg , i sold mine 3 years AGo for iPhone . So much more practical and useful with camera phone …

This seems a pretty steep price for Aug 2020 considering it was $100 cheaper a year ago and the camera hasn't gotten any better, and no Sony cashback to sweeten the offer.

It's the same price on Amazon AU and there is 4% cashback on cameras from various folks if you want to maximise savings.

Great camera. Had one for about 5 years, been on multiple overseas trips, tossed around and generally not particularly well looked after, and it's still as good as new.

Getting harder to justify bringing it for me though, phone cameras are getting so good. This will absolutely take a better quality photo if you want to work for it, but my phone will take a more usable photo without even trying, thanks to all their night mode and exposure tricks.

    • I have the first gen RX100 and in the same boat, last time I took it for some nice specific shots but kept it in my bag for the rest of the time.

    • Yeah. Also you can stuff up pictures more easily with this, while phone cameras generally get it right without trying.

  • Yh best to have a proper lens camera if your going somewhere spectacular

  • RX100 Mk2 is the great buy and cheaper as well

    • How so? (curious)

Edit: also where is it cheaper/still for sale?

  • I would think $450 is a proper price for this aged camera. It is a big jump over MKII. It competes entry level dslr kit in IQ and AF but much lighter.

I just bought the IV and it does take great pics, in my short play with it. I bought it with an underwater housing to take to the Great Barrier Reef next month. That's one use case where a phone won't work. I also own a Nikon DSLR and admit that 95% of photos nowadays are taken on my phone. The DSLR is in a league of its own for sports photos and the times I want extra special portraits. The phone is the go-to for everyday capturing mundane moments to send to friends and family.

  • does it do 4k?

is it a rival (better or worse) than the Lumix g7 for 4k?

    Cheers

  • I had the IV. Viewfinder and af not good. I would go the v at the lowest, it had a big jump in af. New version (viii) on the horizon if the rumours are true.
