Could it be an error? it says 99 here https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-sound.htm but when u click on it it says $69.30 =S

    • +1

I'd say that's likely to be the price before this sale. They just haven't updated it. I have nfi.

    • +1

Yeah i thought it was an error at first too, not sure - either way, order quickly! :P

    • Must be due to the 30% off on car audio, Should be ending today.

      • I hope not lol, the deal was just posted. Although 0.70 *99=$69.30

  • Has anyone ever tried hooking headunits up to a computer?

  • Is anyone planning to buy this?

    • I have.

      • ^ Cool. How hard are they to install yourself if you know?

        • What kind of car do you have? I'm lucky because mine is already running an aftermarket head unit so hopefully all i need to do it rip the old one out and plug the new one in. If you're still running the factory one, it could be a little harder but doable.

        • +1

Its a pretty new Toyota…but I'll get my mate who's a mechanic to install it , but thanks anyway! Might be getting a Kicker Sub as well as this!

        • +4

I bet I know what your number plate is :P

bit of a stretch though given that 7 is usually = T.

        • not really hard. installed mine in 2 hours and this was the first time i ever attempted anything like this.

        • Sometimes it is easier if you purchase a special audio plug/adapter that will make the connection easier because the plugs will be the same size on both ends. Around $20~ to buy.

        • +2

As wolfenator87 said, you can get a special audio wiring harness. Saves having to cut the wires from the factory plug and fiddle around in a cramped space wiring them. Especially if your not confident in doing that yourself.

          http://www.aerpro.com/
this brand is usualy available at most auto shops like Repco, Super Cheap, Autobarn, etc

        • +6

Yup wiring harness makes it a cinch. And for this price don't sweat the extra. You'll need two items from your local retailer: the harness for a sony (which has sony compatible plugs at one end and their own connector at the other) and a toyota harness (has the toyota compatible plug at one end and their own connector at the other). Then you plug one harness to the stereo, the other harness to the wiring bundle behind your existing stereo, plug the two together and Robert is your father's brother. No cut wires.

  • no usb input?

    • Unfortunately not.

      • damn - would have been all over this

    • That's kind of annoying, the second best thing would be burning MP3's to CD's I guess.

      • You know I fit the whole MJ backcatalog on one disc :)

  • And people still use cd's in cars?

    • I know right, in this case I would because there's no USB.

      • +4

iPod? iPhone? Android? It has 2 AUX inputs (i.e 3.5mm headphone jack) which is good enough for me!

        • Yep that's why I use.

Bought this exact same deal months ago for my gfs car, and everything is runnin fine, got amp and sub, goes nicely.

  • +12

This is cheaper than the second hand quarter window I had to replace after my CD player recently got stolen out of my car. I will keep a couple to hand out and save the thieves the trouble next time.

    • +4

      Where do you park again?

  • Great price. Paid $100 for a different brand with identical features (without the speakers) from JB around Christmas when they had their 'big sale'.

  • +1

Does anyone know what speakers those are?

    EDIT: Found out, Sony XS-GF1622X.

  • Here is the model with USB input.

    https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-sound/car-cd-tuner/sony-…

It's $104 and no speakers come with it.

  • Hmmm, tempting at this price, especially as I have a mate that can install them for free. Do you think the speakers would be a substantial upgrade over my stock 6" speakers that came with my car?
I don't really need a new CD changer but having mp3 CD and aux in for my Zune music player is a nice touch.

    • Depends on your car, but i would say yes.

      • +5

It's a budget Daewoo zippy car. Kind of a like a poor man's Toyota echo/yarriss/whatever.
Ozbargainers HATE driving, my real car is my $100 k-mart bike, haha.

    • +1

can your mate do it free for me :)? more ozbargainised that way :)

      • haha, unusual offer, but if you are in melbourne i would be keen to come around and help you out. I have seen it done once, but would like to get some experience. Let the blind lead the blind? :)

        • +1

I haven't done it before but I want some experience too just for the heck of it. Would be glad to help someone out once i've done mine, might even seem fun.

Haha someone should organize one of these 'Ozbargain DIY installation' events with BBQ afterwards. Could be interesting for this community….;)

You can repay him with either :
        a) Cigarettes
        b) Beer

  • Jeez has Sony fixed that annoying sh*t "melody" that plays when you turn the ignition off ?

    (totally ridiculous) reminder

    • What was it like? My current sony beeps twice before shutting down, i don't find it annoying.

      • Sorry but that sounds like it…i mean its a one hundred dollar head set ffs !

If these engineers at Sony can create something surely they can give an opt out override too ?

(for those that don't need reminding haha)

  • +4

arghh i dont know what I am going to do with it but bought one

    • +5

That's the spirit! Put it in your "storage shed" with all your other unused, online-based impulse purchases.

      • +4

        clearing some room now

      • That shed might net you a nice eBay profit one day.

  • Consider the RRP is about $150 and with free shipping , these will be sold out in a few hours. Might have to kick the bucket now and buy one.

  • would this deal finish tonight? or would it continue tomorrow?

    • Well until it sells out, presumably. But who knows how much stock JB has left? Get in quick. I'm gonna read some reviews first and make sure it is a good product before I buy.

      • There are a few reviews on amazon for a similar USB model. It averaged around 4 1/2 stars, so it seems pretty good!

    • Finishes tonight:

      https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/default.aspx

Will go back to $99, unless they run out of stock.

  • is this a REALLY good deal? as i know nothing about car amps. i just need a new amp (any will do) with AUX in so i can plugin my iphone while im driving. i dont even need the speakers and will probably sell them (how much they worth?). i guess i'll order this.

    • +1

That's subjective, but consider they were $178 before, so they're well over half price.

    • Since you need a new amp and this is a top brand and good model then I would say yes. You should be able to flog the speakers off for atleast $30 or more.

    • +2

Don't know much about these sony headunits and speakers but 52W is the RMS output the amp gives which is one of the things you look at and the speakers should try to match that or that won't be able to take the full output of your amp if you decided to crank it up. 40w is more than enough for most people. Definitely a good upgrade over a stock amp and speakers in most cars and would jump in if I was in that position. IMO get good front speakers that can handle a bit of thumping if you're into that then get a sub for more bass! screw back seat speakers you'll never really hear them!

  • +1

ordered with pickup in store, i figure if i can sell the speakers for $20, then its $50 for the amp, and i dont think ive seen a sony amp for that low in catalogues before, so i guess i'll be happy.

might order another with delivery to ensure i get one.

    • Just clarifying, this is not an amp, this is a headunit with speakers.

  • Sorry this may be a bit off topic…
the speakers price on their web site is for a pair or 1 unit?
Just thinking about getting some decent audio for my car…

    • +1

      pair

  • I got a deal very similar to this, last year. It was $99 for a Sony Xplod unit with 3.5 input, plus 2 free speakers. Looks almost the same, might be.
Only thing is, it turned out to be a lot harder than i thought to install the thing, so it's been sitting in my cupboard since xmas.
Do Jb offer a cheap installation if u buy a stereo with them?

It turns out i have to dismantle whole console on my Magna to get out the old stereo. Plus, i read that it's not as simple as matching up the same coloured wires with the new unit.

Does anyone know a cheap place that will install it for me, say for ~$50? I'm in Brisbane.

    • I used these guys before at a cost of $70. But I don't know if they are up there. ehttp://www.soundmaster.com.au

    • +1

check ebay for prewired adaptor wiring harnesses.

    • NOOOOOO… are you serious I have a magna I was going to put it into my magna :(

  • I just went out to my car and had a look. I seem to have 6 inch speakers located on the front side doors only so it will improve the sound by a big margin as this is the only sonic source in my car. Simply remove the grill, remove the old ones, rewire and fit in. Head unit should be a simple procedure if the plugs match(or have option to buy the convertor kit for a bit more expense, $20).

    • EBay the converter kits for around $5.50 delivered

  • Not surprised they're so cheap - the DIN stereo format is dead. Obsolete. I predict these head units will be gone within a decade.

    • not necessarily. There are plenty of adapter kits to make your dash look normal with aftermarket stereos. I think there will probably be less out there, but audio nuts will always go aftermarket

  • Hmm is it worth getting Bluetooth or just use aux in?

    • In my experience, BT is a downright pain to use sometimes, it's quite buggy, and if it does work it will drain your phone/ipod's battery. with aux, i can just plug it in and it, much easier.

    • bluetooth is worth it, once your all paired up everything runs easy, music, calls, etc all controlled from the headunit. Less hassle.

EDIT: Never really worried about battery drain because I have a car charger that I always use… so could be a problem but the rest of the day I leave my bluetooth on and it never dies too fast. using an iphone3GS

  • If you don't need the speakers, the Pioneer DEH-1350MPG with front aux-in is also a good deal for $67.20 (RRP $168)

    Just bought this.

I've got an 15 year old Falcon wagon with the original cassette deck complete with missing volume knob.

Hopefully the speakers should be an upgrade over the stock ones too.

Also hope that it isn't all too difficult to install.

    • EF?

      • Nah, EL. The front speakers are getting pretty rattly.

        • Yeah careful, they may have started to rust!

        • +1

The rear ones are the worst. Sounds like the tailgate is full of angry bees.

    • Nice. This upgrade will be significantly better than using old 80s cassettes which I'm surprised people still use. Have fun with the installation :)

  • Just got this aswell, does anyone know how to fill in the 'empty space' if your current unit is larger than this one?

    (Mines http://www.volvopartsearch.com/search%20images/cd_playerradi…)

    • cardboard painted black?

    • +2

You can get single DIN pockets.

      • As Blinky said, the same places that sell the head units should sell single DIN's as well. I've definitely seem that at my local JB.

    • Haha, that thing's a beast! My old man's got a Volvo stationwagon with that same unit. Buy a tape-to-mp3 device and you're laughing. The sound actually kicks ass and has some really decent bass. Definitely not to be underestimated :D

      • I tried one of those things and the sound quality was pathetic - mono sound output(NOT even stereo!) and low-fi playback quality(far worse than any commercial cassettes). Maybe I bought a dodgy one or didn't set it up properly :p

        • Oh, I don't know about that! The one I was using sounds incredible. Nothing you'd expect to get out of a tape player. I was amazed. It's possible that yours was a dud..but yeah, pretty much as good as any AUX input you get in these head units :)

      • +1

I've got a dodgy tape to mp3 devise actually however the cassette player kept rejecting it whenever i tried sticking it in as it couldnt 'read' the tape.

And cheers for the advise on DIN pockets, i saw them before just wasnt sure what they were called.

And the stock sound is actually pretty decent, i love the CD changer haha

  • Hey guys,

I've posted a question in the forums in regards to car speakers. I've got a 04' Mazda 3, but my the sound quality in my car is terrible. It's even worse than my 94' accord for some reason and i was told that i only needed to replace my stock speakers since they generally aren't very good.

I'm very happy with my head unit, the dials are very convenient and i don't want it replaced. If I were to buy the speakers alone, would this still be a pretty good deal?

I guess i could even sell the headunit by itself or put it in another car..

    • +2

Sure, it is. If you get $50 for the sale of the HU, which you easily could as a minimum, then paying <$20 for a decent pair of speakers is a terrific proposition. You will probably find someone on here that wants the HU only and is in your area.

      • Would these speakers be an upgrade from the Hyundai i45 speakers?
