        • I asked the same naive question regarding the stocks in my car a few posts up. It is difficult to say because the sound quality of stock speakers can be highly variable but there is also an element of subjectivity("it sounds good to my ears" or "that is awful".) The RMS rating is most likely higher on these speakers which means more power and louder volumes without distortion. You will also get more clarity, deeper bass and dynamic range because they are 2-way speakers.

      • Thanks wolfenator87 for the quick reply. You're right, i think i could easily sell these for $50 online and with the price i'm getting for these speakers ($20 for both) - I can't go wrong for trying right? =p

For my 04' Mazda, the stock headunit can't play mp3s so as much as i love the look of it, i actually might replace it with these Sony ones during the holidays and see how it goes…

        THANKS OP

        • I also have a 04' mazda… how do you replace the HU when the original console is all in one piece? Are there adapters to fit in a standard DIN HU?

    • teabagzzz, does your Maz 3 have the standard audio system or the Bose one?

      • My one is just has the standard one. I'm usually not into audio speakers…but my ones are pretty bad =S It was only after i started doing some reading that i found out car factory stock speakers in general are pretty bad.

The Mazda 3s that come in Bose stock speakers would be the more expensive luxury ones - SP23 or SP25 models. Those ones come with leather seats, kit, headlights etc. the lot…including bose.

But i heard that Bose car stereo systems' speakers that are sold with the cars are mostly generic (not made by Bose) speakers from panasonic or clarion's parts bin - cheapest possible ones:)

Then Bose takes them, and "tunes" them with their famous Dsp (digital signal processor) and gives it artificial sound and do some measurements to the cabin of the car and then further engineering to the system…. and voilà! Done! Then their marketing team comes in and gives it a fancy name with some tech jargon to make it sound high tech… My cousin has Bose ones in her SP23, the quality isn't bad.. still better than mine, but i've never heard Bose speaker anywhere else though so i can't compare…

        • Heh yeah I hate the BOSE system… I ripped out most of its bits after I got it in my Mazda 6 and replaced it with a Response Precision amp and speakers. Tons better!

The reason I ask is because on the BOSE system, the HU isn't actually that bad as it has pre-amp outputs that can be tapped into - give it a better amp and speakers and you're set - but since you aren't "blessed" with BOSE this is irrelevant. :)

On the other hand though, its much cheaper to get DIN stereo kits for your 3 than for my 6: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2004-2005-Mazda-3-Double-Din-Radi… . Search ebay for "Mazda 3 DIN" and you'll get plenty!

  • Is that 2 way 6 inch speakers.?

    • Yep.

    • They are indeed.

      Sony XS-GF1622X

  • Just put my order thru before bedtime.
I don't need it per se, but it will be a big upgrade over my stock components.
Thanks to the OP for a great find!

  • thanks for the link. was looking for something like this

how about the other amps and speakers JB sells? any of them good value?

  • Awesome, now I'll just wait till some nice speakers to show up for the back of the car!

Purchased :) thanks OP! Decided to pick them up from my local Hobart store. Much quicker than getting them delivered (getting stuff shipped to tas sometimes takes a little longer than it should!)

  • Did the price go up? I clicked on it and it says $99.

    • Expired midnight i believe.

  • I'm seeing $99. May need to change the price there.

Should probably add that you do get a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable included with the headset for people wanting to use their mp3 player/phones etc.

    • Oh thanks for that, i was about to get one off ebay!

    • That's a nice touch from Sony. I like extras, even if already have them :)

    • Yeah I ended up buying one from ebay before it arrived and ended up with 2 lol.

I lost the sony one when I was installing the head unit!

I can't possibly hold my breath for 60 hours!
They must work as slow as snails in their warehouse.

  • Does anyone know whether it has a subwoofer volume control?

  • not sure if it has sub control but im struggling to find the $5 harnesses. PS I have a 2000 mitsubishi magna

  • this is annoying, i STILL havent received my ready to pickup confirmation from my local store (gepps cross SA) and dont think they will honour it now. i shouldve just done the online with free delivery. wish it could be changed, but it probably can't. FFS.

    • Have you tried calling the store themselves?

    • If you've already paid for it, why wouldn't they honour the price? Calm down.

Well it's been 5 business days and mine still hasn't been posted! Pretty poor effort by JB.

  • Anyone get their sony xplode? I'm still waiting on mine…. I emailed them yesterday and still no response..

  • @duph123, nope. My order status is AWAITING SHIPMENT. 10 days is a bit of a joke. I'll be pretty pissed if anything is wrong with it too.

  • I got a response, apparently mine is being posted within 24 hours. I'll keep you guys updated.

  • Mine also awaiting shipment! Emailed customer service and no reply.. Pretty poor form i reckon

  • Well it's been 24 hours and it still hasn't been shipped! I'll give them till the end of the day then contact them again sigh

My order was placed on the 30th of October, 2011 and I still haven't received anything. I just called to query the status of my order.

For your reference, the direct number to contact them on is 1300 665 425 (was only on hold for a few minutes). Have your order number handy when you call through. I think it's pretty bad that they don't list their contact number on their website.

I was told they had some technical issues with the warehouse infrastructure systems and hence my order hadn't been sent out. It's now been resolved and my order will be shipping on this coming Monday and I should be expecting delivery on Wednesday. We'll see how it goes.

    • Thanks for that, they hide that phone number pretty well!

For self installation, just buy a harness off ebay for less than $6 delivered.

    eg. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-CAR-RADIO-AUDIO-ISO-WIRING…

just search on ebay by "ISO [car eg. Nissan)". The above search was retrieved by typing "ISO Nissan". make sure you select international sellers.

  • Just rang the number Realmholder gave, I was told stock has become available and my order will be sent either today, Tuesday or Wednesday, with an overnight courier. So expect it to be delivered a day or two after you get the delivery sent email. They will also provide a tracking no. for the company they use.

    • did you end up receiving it the next day?

  • Got mine today! There was no tracking number given though, so it was a surprise!

  • Got mine yesterday. Now I just need to find that adaptor so I don't have to butcher my car's stock wiring.

    • did you ring that number 1300 665 425

      on the 11/11/2011

and recieved it on the 19/11/2011?

9 days later after you called them?

      • Yup, rang on the 11th to query it and recieved it on the 18th.

I wasn't in a major rush, so didn't make a big deal about it, however the delivery certainly could have been quicker.

        • thanks

going to call them up today

  • so i just called up.

they said they had problems with orders sent to the warehouse.
and there were around 160 backlog orders. ( probably from all the ozbargainers lol)

but he will re-order this from a store and delivery it through express post.
so i hope it will arrive in a couple of days.

so i think anyone who has this same problem should ring 1300 665 425 and chase up their order.
