Came across this while looking for a new SSD. Lowest I have seen so could be a mistake.

They also have the WD Black 1tb for $178.08 only 4 of those remaining though.

I ended up buying the WD Black, fingers crossed it gets fulfilled. They only have 2 reviews @ 50% so take that into account if ordering.

this is first time I have seen a 1tb ssd below $100.

    • +2

It's an nvme drive too. Though I notice it's kinda slow at some things, like creating empty folders. No problems with my Sabrant Rocket though.

      • the read/write should be still over 2000mbps as is a nvme drive.

  • +17

Sold by Austin Computers 50% positive rate, be careful

    • +1

LOL, 2 reviews only so far.

The 1 star review was meant to be 0 star (but Amazon doesn't offer 0 star I think). Pricing error, compensation voucher didn't work was the feedback.

    • +2

Reviews thus far says as much…looks like a waste of time.

    • +1

But you will be covered by Amazon. Yes abit hassle to return to USA if any problem, but you get your money incl returned shipping cost.

    • +1

If it's really Austin Computers, they are an actual shop in Sydney. But we do not know if it is or not.

But but, this one review is terrible. Sustained speed for files over 50GB is slower than TLC SATA III SSD, dropped like a bomb.

      • +2

slow down for 50gb file if cache depleted isn’t an issue if it’s your second drive, faster than sata, so good drive for loading games, or to backup your primary ssd, or just a step up from sata ssd.

could also bring 2nd life to older nvme laptops, i know mine only came with 250GB and that was 3 years ago.

        • +1

For loading game, it's about a couple percent faster than a reliable SATA III in testing. Issue is a mobo doesn't really have many slots for NVMe SSD, usually 1-3 at most. You would rather want a reliable NVMe as boot drive and SATA III for storage since you can get lots of SATA III.

True, it's a cheap NVMe at the price of cheap SATA III (at this price, not $174 price). I would grab it if I haven't already got sufficient storage (2.5TB of EVO 850 & 860).

There is also an Austin Computers in Perth (Osborne Park) - it looks like there site? They are a bricks and mortar store and usually pretty good, but about average pricing, I would say with PLE etc

      • +1

Customer service number for the Amazon listing is same as the store in Osborne Park, WA. Solid bricks & mortar store, been around for a long time.

    • I used to live in Perth and frequented the Cannington store between 2005-2015. Very mediocre customer service and generally non-competitive pricing.

  • Not eligible for Amazon Prime and seller reviews are not very reassuring. For the price though, worth punt

    • +14

Returns are a pain if not fulfilled by Prime. Amazon generally won't help you and tell you to sort it out with seller.

      Don't recommend a punt.

      • Agree, been my experience with third party sellers also.

      • +5

Can't be worse than Kogan marketplace. You can order one item from one seller and it'll arrive the next day, order another item from another seller and it arrives next month.

  • i wonder if its worth the effort

    • +1

You get to put a negative review on the seller or ended up with a good deal.

Nah, not worth it for this, a low end NVMe QLC SSD.

      • It's crazy cheap though.

  • +5

Worse case scam, best case a pricing error. Unlikely to be fulfilled either way

  • ok placed the order,,, lets see

  • ordered, will see if i get it.

  • Ordered… let's see

  • AHhaha sht was about to order

  • is this a good nvme drive? how does it compare to kingston a2000 and WD sn550?

    too late no stock now….

    • -1

A2000 is much better. Probably the best value 1TB nvme drive going around at the moment, although it is around $150.

  • WD Black seems to have gone back up to 300, the crucial one seems to be still available

    • crucial is upto 160

  • +6

Oh no, seller changed pricing for both ssds, looks like a pricing error, prepare for cancellations

  • Oh you kidding me, just at the checkout page and the price changed…………..

  • +1

Price error normally end up order cancel if posted here.

  • +1

I did not seriously miss out on this…

    cries

    • +1

Pretty sure you haven't… Austin Computers don't do such incredible prices.
It's almost certainly meant to be the price for the 500GB P1.

      • +1

It really now depends if they honour the purchase… If they do, I missed out, if they didn't, I'll be happy :)

  • +2

Looking at the retailers direct website I reckon that these were suppose to be the 500GB prices. Mistakes were made.

    • +16

This is why no one offers price protection anymore ffs

      • -4

        Jealous much?

        • +3

          Scam much?

          • +3

            @xers: I honestly don’t get the hate.

An advertised price is lower which is all the terms of the insurance requires.

If there was a clause like must have X stock, or must be still in stock when the claim is processed then sure. The credit card companies are free to add these requirements if they want but they haven’t. It’s just like the eBay deals where there was an extremely limited amount of stock available.

The card companies borrow money at 1% interest rate and then charge customers 20% so they still make money even when offering these generous perks.

These downvotes just seem like sour grapes from those who were not able to get these policies when they were available a few years ago.

            • @stirlo: Happy to share my screenshot with you.

              • @Sundubu: Thanks for the offer. Someone PM'd me one already though. :)

  • +2

Got an alert saying that the WD Blue SN550 (a DRAMless TLC NVMe Drive) had dropped to $110.

I wonder if that was the same person at Austin making the same 500GB vs 1TB mistake.

  • Why this is a good deal when the seller is surely going to cancel it? There are too many refunds due to wrong pricing lately!

"Placed an order for the item & was delayed by an extra week. Then the order was cancelled. I sent a message regarding the cancellation & was told that there was due a pricing error & was compensated with a voucher that doesn't work. Would have given 0 stars for a dishonest seller but decided to give 1 star for the prompt reply. I ended up making my purchase with eBay for an even cheaper deal. "

  • waste of time

    • +1

      Agreed.
No way that this will be honoured

      • Eating your own words now Ha!

  • -5

hello, it's my first time to put comment here.

  • +3

It shows back in stock now

  • not sure if worth the punt or not..

  • +2

Back in stock, but $164.30 now.

  • +2

Back in stock, still showing $94.34 to me

  • is it worth to buy if still showing $94 ?

  • +1

I bout an SSD off Austin computers on Amazon once. Can confirm they are legit and I had no issues.

  • +1

still in stock and showing $94.34 to me too.

  • +3

sn550 1tb is another good deal for $110

    • Looks sold out already

    • +1

Got the 1tb SN550at 8:10am for $110. There were only 3 available. Let’s see if they honour it.

      • Ended up getting one on the restock. This better than the Crucial?

  • isnt austin that shop in castle hill

  • Damn I just spent 80 bucks on a 500gb few days ago

  • Back in stock, got one

  • -1

If these were real deals then they would be more to come, otherwise it's better not to waste time!

  • And…… expired.Damn

    Price: $164.30 & FREE Delivery

    • And back down again. Weird yo yo pricing.

  • Worth a shot. Ordered one at 7:05am WA time - showing available at the $94.34 price.

  • +5

it got back in stock a few times. So it makes me think this is not a price error?

  • Sorry, this item can't be delivered to your selected address. (worked before)
    Then became unavailable

  • Just ordered without any issue.

edit: Shows $94 on the email invoice.

  • Now $164.30, this seller is so weird with pricing

    • Exactly, I ordered a minute ago for $94

      • Let us know how it goes, I hope they honour that price for everyone who orders.

        • Sure. Will update here.
          Says arriving tomorrow by 8pm

          • @fantoo: They shipped?

            • @baldur: Nah not yet.
This is what it says on the orders page

  • Cheers ! i ordered 1 for $94

  • Is it compatible with Gigabyte Aero 15X i7-8750H model?

    • Yep, has a PCIE M.2 Slot

      • Yes, but in Gigabyte list of supported devices it is not listed :(

        • +1

Just means it's not "officially supported". It fits 2x M.2 2280 PCIe SSDs, It will work as normal.
If you only have 1 in there you can install it as a second drive, and will need to open up Disk Management to intialise and format it after installation.

  • Ordered about 20' ago

  • Does this have DRAM?

    • +1

It has Dram, SLC, pseudo SLC, the works. Because its a QLC drive.

  • Oh well, price has gone back up again.

  • Uh Oh… Its hit #1 Amazon Bestsellers Rank

1 in Computers (See Top 100 in Computers)
1 in Internal Solid State Drives

  • Is this compatible with Dell g5 15 se?

  • +17

    Oh you guys are lucky,

Just spoke to Austin Computers in Sydney and confirmed the orders will be shipped shortly for those whom have ordered it at that price! Good Job :)

It was a pricing error however they will honor it.

    • You beauty!

    • absolute legend have been checking this page for updates constantly…

    • Woo Awesome news. Thanks for checking!

    • great news :)

    • Wow… Congratulations everyone who snagged one!

      I would have taken a punt on this too… but I already bought a 1Tb SN550 for my 2nd m.2 slot a few weeks ago :(

    • I am happy to cancel my order if this is a pricing error.

    • Well shit, guess my PC's upgrading to NVME from SATA SSD haha

Didn't expect a small store like them to honor it if price error, awesome gesture on their part.

    • Why was the price yoyoing up and down like that? If it was a price error I'd expect once the price was corrected it stay corrected.. almost felt like they were playing games with us 🙃
