Imagine getting a job with 7News, and you end up having to "write" articles like that.

    • agree

    • +6

Could be worse, ending up on News.com.au and reporting on Kmart Hacks, or some upset “influencer”, or the next person whoring themselves on OnlyFans. And that’s just what’s on the site right now.

      • Half of the need articles on news.com.au are taken from Reddit anyways

      • Kmart Hacks,
, or the next person whoring themselves on OnlyFans

        Send me these

    • +1

I'm guessing the person who wrote it works at Woolworths rather than 7.

      • You would think so, but by putting a name in the article byline the "reporter" takes credit for it.
I'm sure Amy is a nice person, and I'm not discrediting the article, but it seems to be a copy/paste to me.

BTW: Amy Sinclair is a former editor who loves all things food, cooking and eating - especially the eating! When she's not looking after her three children, you'll find her in the kitchen or busily hiding online shopping purchases from her husband.

Or in other words, Here have a $66 coffee machine with 36 free pods.

    • A $66 coffee machine with 96 free pods. So $0.69 per coffee.
Or $62.7 with discounted gift cards (so $0.66 per coffee).

      • Still works out ~ 30% cheaper than the $1 Servo Coffee..

        • Milk?

          • -2

@[Deactivated]: That's literally a $1 a litre man. How much milk do you use in your coffee?

            • +3

@bigbadboogieman: Standard small takeaway cup is 240ml.
One shot of coffee is about 30ml
              So say 210ml of milk?

              At $2.40 per 2l, that's 25c of milk.

              So $0.69 + $0.25 = $0.94 per coffee.

Or at 5% with gc, then $0.89?

              • -2

@Tiggrrrrr: Seems about right. Tetra pack/long life was cheaper but nowadays that's more expensive too. The alternative would be to use a powder based creamer if you're going full on cheapskate. So roughly ~ 10% discount and you have the convenience to not run to the servo everytime you feel like a coffee.

The coffee pods are $13 for 30 on amazon. I don't think you got the machine for free.

    • Those are the Nespresso compatible pods and are the same price at Woolworths. Those are not the deal here, this is for A Moda Mio pods.

      • Okay, I bought some for the nespresso machine at work.Budget cuts, byo coffee.

        mi dispiace per questo

      • But the same pods are $6.3 on amazon with S&S.
So roughly $28 more than on amazon. (I didn't check all flavours and didn't take into account the 3% amazon discount vs 5% wish. I went shopping yesterday in Woolies, so don't have any 10% discount on top anymore.)

        • If you weren’t invested in a system, then it’s effectively $28 for a machine that is still $99 on Amazon. Not a bad deal, but only if you don’t have a machine and/or like the flavour of this particular brand.

          • @justdigi: Yes, I do realize that. I'm still debating whether it's worth it or not.

        • +1

          Or $4 for 12

          ($3.60 with S and S)

  • is it nespresso compatible?

    • +2

      No, I'm afraid not.

      See: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/554677

Compatible with Lavazza A Modo Mio machines.

Good that I read OB comments before purchasing.
I was looking for this deal on OB 2 hours ago, to read the comments. The search function doesn't allow to search future posts yet.

        • +3

I read your comment multiple times and one thing is clear.
Either you had too many drinks today or I didn't have enough coffee to drink.

  • +4

Seems like a smart way to lock people into your pod ecosystem

    • +1

Think these pods are quite useless also, the least popular shape so you dont have many options

      • what's the best machine and pods

        Proprietary pods are thing? damn

    • yea or just a way to push people to buy more of the capsules at full price, and getting rid of the coffee machine as old stock at the same time I suppose.
I've always wanted to try a pod machine for quite sometimes but never able to justify the price and the ongoing cost of capsules. I may sell it for some bucks back after 4-5 months worth of these capsules (1/day)

  • +1

Is a a milk frother included?

    • +1

      Nope, just the espresso machine

  • Hey op,

Did you get the machine from the coffee aisle or from the customer service counter?

    • +1

The store manager didn't have any clue about it and told me it was a scam… me was like "a scam from 7 news…"
After like 4 staff trying to find out what the deal was, someone from like online department maybe, helped me out with this. She had to go back to the storeroom to find the last coffee machine though, it wasn't displayed on the shelves

      • Thanks, looks like the deal is expired now.

        • I just noticed it in the catalogue and it says it is until the 8th September here:
*With any purchase of 6 or more products from the Lavazza A Modo Mio Coffee Capsules 16 pack range in a single transaction at participating Woolworths Supermarkets. Until 8/9/20 or while stocks last. Offer must be redeemed in-store. Offer not available in all Woolworths Supermarket stores, Woolworths Online or at Woolworths Metro Caltex/Woolworths co-branded outlets. Substitutions and rainchecks are not available. See in-store for more details.

          But under that it says:
Offer valid Wed 26 Aug - Tue 1 Sep 2020 and order must be placed prior to 11:59pm Tue 1 Sep 2020

  • I had to ask the service counter, the machines were still out the back, as 'no room on the shelf'

  • how do these taste vs nespresso pods?

    • +1

not enough experience with the Nespresso pods but taste better than the instant coffee IMO

  • +2

Seriosuly better buying an Aldi machines and save the money with the refills.

    Lavazza Machine $0.00
    Aldi Machines is $79.99

    Lavazza Pods $11 for 16 ($0.69 a cup)
    Aldi Pods $5.99 for 16 ($0.37 a cup)

So Saving from the Aldi machines pay it's off in 256 cups (11-5.99=5.01, 79.99-5.01 = around 16 boxes (16x16=256)

So if your single and drink 3 cups a day, that 85 days and just over 42 days for 2 people, before it starts costing more to run that "free" machine.

Other advantages of the Aldi machine is 2 year warranty, 60 days change of mind and also the pods can normally be returned to be full recycled (This cannot be done at the moment)

    • -1

AND as I understand it the Aldi pods are nespresso compatible so I would assume the reverse is true

      • +1

Aldi pods are not Nespresso compatible, however they are very very similar to Caffitaly pods. Some Caffitaly pods work fine on the Aldi machine, some not.

  • Link to online catalogue no longer showing the promo anymore. Looks like they are running out of stock.

    • It's actually an IT issue, have spoken to helpdesk a couple of times. Doesn't show on web page. Still available in store.

  • +1

I'm calling BS on this. Asked about it earlier in my local Woolies and was told they only have one machine per day and it gets put out at random times.

As it's not a deal everyone can access I think it should be removed.

    • cant get it from a couple of stores i visited today. Sounds like a publicity stunt? :)

      • Definitely BS, I went to 5 Woolies and that’s was on the date the promo was out

      • +1

Agreed as I went to couple of stores and none of them have the machine available.
For such unethical bait marketing and misleading consumers they should be reported to ACCC.
